  • Design and Analysis of Dual Source Vertical Tunnel Field Effect Transistor
           for High Performance
    • Abstract: An optimally designed Dual Source Vertical Tunnel Field Effect Transistors is proposed and investigated using technology computer aided design simulation. The vertical tunnel FET have dispersal of source channel drain in the vertical direction which will enhance the scalability of the simulated device. The benefit of the TFET is switching mechanism which is done by quantum tunnelling method through a barrier instead of thermionic emission over the barrier as that of conventional MOSFETs. The key of this paper, we have developed two-dimensional model of single drain with dual source n-type vertical tunnel field effect transistor. Further introduction to an ultra-thin channel among the drain and gate region will makes aggressive improvement in the numerical simulations of minimum threshold voltage (VT) of 0.15 V and average subthreshold slope of 3.47 mV/decade. The variation effect in the channel thickness, source height, drain doping, source doping, temperature and work function has been simulated and examined by 2D silvaco TCAD tool. High ON current and low OFF current is recorded as 1.74 × 10−4 A/µm and 6.92 × 10−13 A/µm respectively with ION/IOFF current ratio in order of 108 to 109.

  • Effect of Carrier Diffusion on Optical Bandgap Design of Metal
           Oxide/Metal/Metal Oxide Multilayer
    • Abstract: Taking using of amorphous oxide semiconductor of Si–In–Zn–O (SIZO) and metal of Ag, SIZO/Ag/SIZO multilayers, which is an oxide/metal/oxide (OMO) having a different thickness of SIZO layers and Ag layers have been fabricated. Optical bandgap (Eg) of OMO is observed to be limited by SIZO layers which have relatively low Eg value. However, benefit from the carrier injection from adjacent Ag layer, carrier density of SIZO layers is multiplied in several orders of magnitude, which results in an obvious Eg expansion about 0.4 eV in number. Eg expansion is expected to be useful for the design of wide bandgap transparent electrode.

  • Effect of LiPO 2 F 2 Electrolyte Additive on Surface Electrical Properties
           of LiNi 0.6 Co 0.2 Mn 0.2 O 2 Cathode
    • Abstract: The electrolyte additive of LiPO2F2 was injected into 18,650 Li ion battery cells composed of LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2/graphite at 25 °C to avoid the formation of the undesirable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer. The potential distribution on the cathode surface was studied using electric force microscopy. The average potential distribution on the surface of the cathode in the cell where the additive LiPO2F2 was injected showed ~ 100 mV higher potential than the average potential on the surface of the cathode in the cell without the additive. X-ray photoemission spectroscopy results showed that the average potential distribution characteristics were correlated with the chemical composition of the surface reactants. These results indicate that the LiPO2F2 additive controls the formation of the SEI layer on the surface of the LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 cathode during the electrochemical reaction in the cell and has the decisive effect of inhibiting the decomposition of LiPF6, which is the main component of the electrolyte solution. In this study, the addition of the LiPO2F2 additive to the electrolyte improves the electrochemical performance of the Li ion battery by improving the surface potential of the cathode surface and controlling the formation of the SEI layer on the surface of the LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 cathode.

  • Structural and Electrical Properties of K(Ta,Nb)O 3 Thin Films for the
           Application of Electrocaloric Devices
    • Abstract: In this study, K(Ta0.6Nb0.4)O3 thin films were fabricated by sol–gel method and their structural and electrical properties were measured to investigate the applicability for electrocaloric devices. As the thickness of thin films increased, crystallinity was improved. The average thickness of the thin films with a single coating was about 130–140 nm. Dielectric constant, dielectric loss, remanent polarization, and coercive field of the 6 times coated thin KTN films at 30 °C were 4920, 0.492, 18.49 μC/cm2 and 54.7 kV/cm, respectively. As the number of coatings increased, the temperature at which the decrease in remanent polarization began also subsided. Likewise, the rate of change in remanent polarization increased as the temperature became higher. When a voltage of 220 kV/cm was applied to the 3 times coated KTN films, the electrocaloric property was 2.95 °C. When the 3 times coated thin KTN films were at 75 °C, electrocaloric property for a unit electric field was about 1.47 °C.

  • High Performance of Cost-Effective Low-E Coating on Flexible PET Substrate
           with Transparent Amorphous Oxide Semiconductor
    • Abstract: Utilizing amorphous semiconductor materials of Si–In–Zn–O (SIZO) and metal Ag, oxide–metal–oxide (OMO) low-emissivity (low-E) coatings were deposited onto flexible substrates at room temperature. It is known that optical and electrical properties of OMO multilayers are very sensitive to the thickness of middle Ag layer. Experimentally, by optimizing the thickness of middle Ag layers, it was found that 11 nm Ag thickness showed excellent properties in terms of transmittance and electrical resistance based on figure of merit. Under optimized conditions, OMO multilayer shows high transmittance of about 90% in visible region, and high reflectivity of above 90% at 2200 nm. Also, flexibility and adhesion properties were improved in bending test. Experimental results indicated that SIZO–Ag–SIZO is promising for high performance and cost-effective low-E coating fabrication.

  • Thermally Efficient Coplanar Architecture of Microheater and
           Inter-digitated Electrodes for Nanolayered Metal Oxide Based Hydrogen Gas
    • Abstract: Chemoresistive hydrogen gas sensor with zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film as a sensing layer has been studied with a coplanar integrated architecture of microheater and interdigitated electrode (IDE). ZnO thin films are fabricated via a chemical route. The present study is based on the use of a coplanar microheater with IDE’s fabricated for the hydrogen sensor. Further, the effect of the integrated architecture over sensing properties of the sensor has been studied. The sensing response of the sensor with film thickness of 150 nm at an operating temperature of 160 °C comes out to be 10.97. The prime aim of the study is to present coplanar integrated architecture of microheater and IDE’sfor a ZnO based hydrogen sensor.

  • Analysis of Structural and Electronic Properties of Novel (PMMA/Al 2 O 3 ,
           PMMA/Al 2 O 3 -Ag, PMMA/ZrO 2 , PMMA/ZrO 2 -Ag, PMMA-Ag) Nanocomposites
           for Low Cost Electronics and Optics Applications
    • Abstract: In this paper, the effect of (Al2O3, ZrO2, Ag, Al2O3-Ag, ZrO2-Ag) nanoparticles on the optimized geometrical parameters and electronic properties of poly-methylmethacrylate has been investigated for first time. The optimization parameters included both bonds angles and bonds length. The electronic properties included the (lower unoccupied molecular orbital energy (ELUMO), high occupied molecular orbital energy (EHOMO), energy gap (Eg), ionization potential (IE), electron affinity (EA), electronegativity (χ), electrochemical hardness H, electronic softness S total energy, total dipole moment and Average polarizability). The results showed that the addition of nanoparticles has a direct impact on all the properties of the molecules studied. The increase in the number of atoms leads to decreased energy gap from 7.0329 to 2.7689 eV. The ionization potential and electron affinity decrease with increasing of atoms number for structures. The produced nanocomposites have different applications in many fields such as: gas sensors, solar cells, diodes, UV shielding, lasers, optoelectronics, medical application, dental filling…etc.

  • Physical Characteristics of (1 − x)(NKL)(NST)O 3  − x(Ba 0.90
           Ca 0.1 )ZrO 3 Ceramics
    • Abstract: (1 − x)(NKL)(NST)O3 − x(Ba0.90Ca0.1)ZrO3 ceramics with (Ba0.90Ca0.1)ZrO3 substitution were synthesized and their physical characteristics were systematically analyzed. All specimens showed typical perovskite structure and no second phase was found according to (Ba0.90Ca0.1)ZrO3 substitution. When Ba0.90Ca0.1)ZrO3 substitution x = 0.02, the highest piezoelectric characteristics of d33 = 260 pC/N, εr = 1904, kp = 0.4102, Qm = 106 were found for piezoelectric devices such as actuators and ultrasonic sensors.

  • Photobiomodulation Therapy in Mice with Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion
           Using Application-Specific Near-Infrared Light-Emitting Diode System
    • Abstract: The effective delivery of light energy from the light source to the subject is essential for an increase of therapeutic usefulness in the photobiomodulation therapy. Here, we demonstrate the application-specific near-infrared (NIR) LED therapy system applicable to the mouse for brain repair. The proposed NIR LED therapy system especially employ the curved-shape NIR LED module and the LED dimmer for optimal transfer of the light energy to the mouse brain. The therapeutic effects are evaluated in mice with chronic cerebral hypoperfusion by the positron emission tomographic scans. In the near future, we would like to quantitatively validate the therapeutic effect of our proposed NIR LED therapy system on mice with brain injury and apply it to a human brain.

  • Ag Layer Thickness Dependency of Electrical and Optical Properties of
           SiZnSnO/Ag/SiZnSnO Multilayer for High Performance and In-Free Transparent
           Conducting Electrode
    • Abstract: SiZnSnO (SZTO)/Ag/SZTO multilayers have been fabricated for the application of transparent conducting electrodes. The transmittance was enhanced by decreasing scattering effect as increasing Ag layer thickness from 7 to 11 nm. In case of the Ag layer thickness thicker than 11 nm, transmittance was decreased by high reflectance characteristic of Ag layer. The electrical properties were gradually enhanced as the Ag layer thickness increased. The SZTO/Ag/SZTO multilayer was optimized at 11 nm-thick Ag layer resulting in high figure of merit of 91.92 × 10−3 Ω−1.

  • Exothermic Properties of the Basalts of Idaho State, USA
    • Abstract: The exothermicity of the basalts (IDL-1, IDL-2 and IDL-3) from Idaho State were investigated. The densities of the three samples were in the range of 2.90–3.01 g/cm3, and the residues of each sample after firing with a gas torch were in the range of 97.8–98.5%. The 1st and 2nd TG/DSC thermal analyses (25–900 °C) of IDL-1 showed that about 4% and 2% of some gas components were emitted. When coated on a halogen lamp (200 V, cooling fan OFF), the temperatures (426–441 °C, average value: 433 °C) of IDL-1, IDL-2 and IDL-3 were much higher than that (356 °C) of the AT binder. When coated on a ceramic board (IDL-1:binder = 7:3, V: 200 V, cooling fan OFF), the average temperature value (405 °C) of the six coated points was higher than that (369 °C) of the six blank points. In conclusion, a considerable amount of the basalt of Idaho State has exothermic property as does the basalt of Unbong-san (Unbong-seok).

  • Influence of the Parasitic External Electromagnetic Field on the
           Efficiency of a Photovoltaic System
    • Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the effect electromagnetic disturbances issued from high voltage–power stations of a given power on the performance of photovoltaic panels placed at different distances from sources emitting electromagnetic radiation the tests were carried out under real conditions in the region of Annaba for a power line 400 kV high voltage connecting to Ramdane Djamel to Cheffia, the obtained results allowed analyzing the current–voltage, power–voltage characteristics in the presence of the electromagnetic field. For a better characterization of the photovoltaic generators, we study the electrical power delivers by the photovoltaic generators to an external charge and we deduce the conversion efficiency of the photovoltaic system with a maximum power point tracking command for 09 h depending on the intensity of the electromagnetic field. The experimental results make it possible to check the influence of parasitic radiation on the photovoltaic system with the proposed controller.

  • Experimental Study on the Corrosion of Buried Pipeline in Coastal Area
           Under the Interference of Stray Current
    • Abstract: To explore the effect of stray current and the concentration of Cl− on corrosion of buried pipeline in coastal area, in this paper, indoor electrochemical experiments were used to change the voltage of AC interference. The electrochemical parameters such as zero current potential error, Tafel constant and corrosion current density error of the polarization curves obtained in three different concentrations of Cl− solutions without alternating current interference and with different intensities of alternating current interference were compared and measured. The results showed that the corrosion potential of the sample was shifted negatively. When the interference ratio of the fixed voltage was not disturbed, the corrosion current increased, and the corrosion process changed from cathode reaction control to hybrid control. AC stray current could aggravate the corrosion process of Q235 steel. In the presence of AC stray current, with the increase of applied AC voltage, the corrosion potential of Q235 steel moved negatively, the corrosion current density increased and the corrosion rate accelerated. The concentration of Cl− had a great influence on the reaction rate, and the higher the voltage, the more obvious the effect. This is of great significance for effectively predicting the life of buried pipelines, improving the reliability of buried pipelines during service and protecting the safety of existing pipeline facilities.

  • Fringing Capacitive Effect of Silicon Carbide Based
           Nano-Electro-Mechanical-System Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers:
           Analytical Modeling and FEM Simulation
    • Abstract: This paper models the fringing field effects in a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) structure for determining the sensitivity of the device. CMUT is used as a medical imaging component which can be an important module for sustainable healthcare system. The capacitance value of the device is evaluated based on Younes Ataiiyan’s method. To determine the equivalent capacitance of the device, the capacitances of the membrane, gap and silicon nitride insulating layer are associated in series. Mason’s modeling techniques are used to evaluate the membrane displacement. Circular membrane approximation model has been considered. Effects of the variation in membrane thickness, gap separation, and membrane radius on membrane displacement are investigated. The analytical prediction has been validated with the finite element method simulation results through PZFlex. Three dimensional modeling is carried out to accurately capture the characteristic behavior of the device. The agreements of both results are excellent which verifies that fringing field effects exist in the device operation.

  • Review of Sintering Technologies, Structural Characteristics, and
           Piezoelectric Properties of NKN-Based Lead-Free Ceramics
    • Abstract: The (Na1−xKx)NbO3-based (NKN-based) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have been extensively investigated from the beginning of this century to replace the Pb(Zr1−xTix)O3-based piezoelectric ceramics. The sintering of the NKN-based ceramics is difficult because they are soluble in water, and Na2O evaporation, which degrades the piezoelectric properties of the specimen, occurs during sintering. CuO was used as a sintering aid to improve the sinterability and to reduce the sintering temperature of the NKN ceramics. The NKN-based ceramics with various polymorphic phase boundary (PPB) structures such as orthorhombic–tetragonal PPB, rhombohedral–orthorhombic PPB, and rhombohedral–tetragonal PPB structures were developed to enhance the piezoelectric properties. The specimen with the rhombohedral–tetragonal PPB structure has been reported to show excellent piezoelectric properties. Recently, NKN-based ceramics with various pseudocubic-based PPB structures were reported, and they exhibited enhanced piezoelectric properties with good thermal stability. In this manuscript, the sintering of NKN-based ceramics and the various PPB structures developed for improving their piezoelectric properties are discussed in detail.

  • Investigating Undoped HfO 2 as Ferroelectric Oxide in Leaky and Non-Leaky
           FE–DE Heterostructure
    • Abstract: In this paper, we have investigated non-leaky and leaky FE–DE heterostructure with undoped HfO2 and Zr doped HfO2 as a ferroelectric material. Use of undoped HfO2 in place of Zr doped HfO2 as a ferroelectric material will ease the deposition process and simplify the processing steps, as ferroelectricity in undoped HfO2 can be obtained without introduction of dopant elements. This replacement of ferroelectric oxide enhances the performance of heterostructure in terms of absolute voltage amplification ( \(V_{D} > V_{S}\) ). Undoped HfO2 provides higher magnitude voltage amplification as compared to Zr doped HfO2 although the range to voltage amplification is reduced.

  • Modeling and Experimental Verification of the Currents Diffusion and
           Recombination: Application to Mono and Polycrystalline Silicon
    • Abstract: We present a systematic procedure to obtain the main parameters that characterize a solar cell under conditions under illumination such as: resistors series and shunt short-circuit current, fill factor, saturation current, saturation current diffusion and recombination, using the least square method. We have clearly demonstrated that the current approximation to use a single exponential term with a factor of n diode to describe the behavior of the p–n junction appropriate but unable to differentiate between the diffusion saturation currents and recombination even using too sophisticated multimeters, and measures are taken with care. To achieve this goal the experimental measurements of the characteristic I–V, we have used the two types of silicon solar cells: mono and polycrystalline, varying light concentration. The potential applications of both single and poly-crystals are governed by the electrical properties, such as the mobility and lifetime of the carriers, which are greatly influenced by the defects contained in the material. The results obtained show clearly that the structural defects of the grain boundaries associated with the segregated atoms promote the recombination of minority carriers. We employ also the intensity–voltage measurement to solar cells mono and polycrystalline under illumination to understand the recombination and diffusion currents behavior at the p–n junction.

  • Memristor Based Full Adder Circuit for Better Performance
    • Abstract: In this paper, we have designed memristor based AND, OR, and exclusive-OR (XOR) gates. With the help of these gates, memristor based full adder circuit has proposed. Simulation results of the proposed circuit including all above gates have been reported. Prominent improvement of the proposed circuit has been represented in power consumption 54.74%, delay 14.84%, and lesser transistor count with respect to conventional circuit.

  • Analysis of Gas Content in Oil-Filled Equipment with Spark Discharges and
           Discharges with High Energy Density
    • Abstract: The paper presents the results of the analysis of the gas content in 444 units of oil-filled equipment, which revealed spark and creeping discharges, as well as discharges with high energy density. The values of gas ratios and the percentage of gases in oil samples are calculated. Nomograms and graphical areas of defects are constructed. The description of the most characteristic damages in the equipment is given. Diagnostics of the equipment using the Duval triangle is carried out. The results obtained make it possible to increase the reliability of defect type recognition based on the results of the analysis of gases dissolved in oil.
