  • Factors Influencing Employee Retention in the Nepalese Tourism and
           Hospitality Sector

    • Authors: Rheet Rijal
      Pages: 1 - 20
Abstract: This study aimed to examine various factors of employee retention in the tourism and hospitality sector in the context of Nepal. The present research was carried out using a positivist perspective as this allows the researcher to develop the hypothesis based on the theory. Using the causal-comparative research design in the study gathered primary data from 404 employees of various demographic levels at the level of gender, age group, length of work experience, sector of work, and position in various positional capacities in various organisations connected to the selected tourism and hospitality sub-sectors using a standardised questionnaire and used. both descriptive and inferential analyses. The key findings of the study revealed a significant contribution of the impacts of age group, length of work experience, and position as the essential elements influencing staff retention in the tourism and hospitality sector. The study concluded that reward and benefits, organisational reputation and job prestige, the opportunity for career development and growth, and organisational process climate and work-life have a significant impact on staff retention.

  • Analysis of Differences between Expected and Perceived Satisfaction Score
of Pilgrims: A Case of Chhinnamasta Temple of Nepal

    • Authors: Yogesh Man Shrestha, Raju Shrestha
      Pages: 21 - 34
Abstract: Nepal has many religious places to visit. The country collected about 6.7 percent of GDP in 2019. For sustainability of revenue collection and conservation of religious sites, the pilgrims should meet their expectations and hence, difference in Expectation (EV) and Perceived Score (PV) is one to asses that the study randomly selected 528 pilgrims visiting the study period was approached and noted their perception on 8 attributes that tap various dimension of pilgrims’ sites using structured 24 Likert Scale Questions. Reliability questions related to each attribute were measured by calculating Cronbach Alpha and McDonald’s Omega. There was no serious problem found regarding reliability of attributes. The Wilcoxon-Signed Rank test was used to infer a significant difference between EV and PV. All attributes except ‘condition on Safety and security’ showed significant difference between PV and EV, of which 3 attributes PV score outweigh EV. Gaps on EV and PV necessitate reviewing facilities available at Chhinnamasta Temple to attract more tourists.

  • Contribution of Mountaineering Tourism to Nepalese Economy

    • Authors: Rashesh Vaidya
      Pages: 35 - 44
Abstract: Snow-capped mountains and Nepal are analogous. The mountains have become synonymous with Nepal. The mountains that run along Nepal's northern border have become not only a symbol of the country but also an important part of its economy. The nation and the Nepalese tourism industries have been branding the snow-capped mountains to attract tourists from around the world. Mountaineers around the world visit Nepal to conquer the mountains. In the process of mountaineering, Nepal has been generating a good amount of revenue. Hence, the paper tries to find out the contribution of mountain tourism to the Nepalese economy. For this purpose, the paper followed a correlation research design. The paper found a perfect connection between the number of mountaineers arriving in Nepal and the royalty collection from them. Hence, the increasing number of mountaineers ultimately determined the royalty collection from mountaineering. Nevertheless, the paper also disclosed that the number of expedition teams and mountaineers arriving in Nepal for mountaineering has a positive connection with the real gross domestic product (GDP) of Nepal.

  • Exploring COVID-19 Adaptation Strategies in Nepalese Tourism Industry: A
           Qualitative Study

    • Authors: Bidush Nepal
      Pages: 45 - 56
Abstract: The tourism industry is a major part of the global economy but is also affected by crises and disasters. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for tourism and hospitality business owners in maintaining sustainability while also keeping employees safe. Despite studies on how to manage uncertainty, there is a lack of concrete examples and research on actual practices used by businesses in this sector, particularly in Nepal. This research identifies and explores the adaptations made by hospitality business owners to maintain continuity and employee safety during this uncertain time. This research, using a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews in a conversational style with five tourism business owners in Pokhara, explores the adaptations made by these businesses to maintain continuity and employee safety during a crisis and pandemic. The paper analysed data collected from interviews through thematic analysis and used pseudonyms to protect participant anonymity. Four key adaptation strategies were identified: human resource management, reorganising operations, managing health aspects and implementing specific crisis management measures. The findings revealed that businesses were able to explore new opportunities, invest in technology, and improve efficiency. They also provided training and monitoring for sanitation and hygiene, and adapted to changes in guest and host behaviour. The paper highlights the efforts these business owners made to adapt and sustain their businesses during a difficult time.

  • Socio-economic and Environmental Impact of Ecotourism in Nepal

    • Authors: Naniram Sapkota
      Pages: 57 - 71
Abstract: Nepal is very rich in terms of its natural beauty and cultural diversity which have provided an enormous opportunity for tourism. Past literature works show that ecotourism helps enhance conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, preserve local cultures and alleviate poverty through an ethical and responsible approach of development. Acknowledging its potential benefits, Nepal has promoted ecotourism as a strategy to attract foreign capital particularly based on indigenous culture, heritage and environmental resources. However, ecotourism has demonstrated its shortcomings. Hence, this paper aimed to critically review the impact of eco-tourism on socio-economic and environmental aspects in Nepal. Based on the review of the various related literatures, this study concluded that ecotourism is crucial for natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and increase in greenery in Nepal. It is a major contributor to the Nepalese economy, economic development and poverty alleviation. Its contribution to rural development, agricultural transformation, community enrichment and social empowerment is significant. However, it also consumes scarce resources, produces wastes, requires specific infrastructure, and increase pollution, and is likely to increase alcoholism, and create adverse impact on local traditional cultures and make local lifestyle vulnerable to Western influence.

  • Assessing the Relationship between Social Media and Sustainable Tourism: A
           Review

    • Authors: Rekha Maitra, Ranjeeta Tripathi, Amit Kumar, Dharna Shukla
      Pages: 73 - 84
Abstract: Achieving sustainability is a primary agenda of developing countries for Vision 2030. On the other hand, technological advancement appears to be a catalyst for achieving those goals. Similarly, the role of social media cannot be ignored while reviewing the impact of tech advancement on our social well-being. This research study evaluates the nexus between different factors of sustainable tourism. It focuses on tourism resources, i.e., natural, artificial, renewable, and non-renewable. Government participation is responsible for optimising economic benefits; while preserving social, cultural, and ecological features. The researcher analyses different social media in India to assess the significance of Responsible/ Sustainable Tourism. This research paper will help the tourists to suggest the various platforms of social media and its importance related to tourism.
