  • Employee perception on the environmental protection programmes: A case
study of a luxury hotel in Macau

    • Authors: Ng Wai Si, Dandeep Basnyat
      Pages: 1 - 13
Abstract: This paper examined the luxury resort hotel employees’ perspectives on the environmental protection programmes initiated by the hotels in Macau, China. The concern for environmental protection is increasing globally in the hospitality industry, especially for big hotels, as they rank highest among the energy consumers compared to the various sectors of the industry. Macao SAR, whose economy is highly dependent upon casinos that reside within numerous hotels, is being developed as a world tourism and leisure centre. This, in turn, further reinforces the need for the examination of environmental protection programmes. Data for this qualitative study was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with fifteen participants which were later analysed using the content analysis method. The result shows that the employees of the luxury resort hotel in Macau perceive variously of the performance of the green practices initiated by the hotel, albeit there was a consensus that additional effort on the part of the hotel was needed to further strengthen environmental protection programmes. The implications of this study and the direction for future research have been explained as well.

  • Factors Affecting Employee Job Satisfaction in Nepalese Hospitality
Industry: A Study of Hotels in Bhaktapur

    • Authors: Kishor Hakuduwal
      Pages: 14 - 26
Abstract:   The objective of the study is to analyse the factors affecting employee job satisfaction in hotels of Bhaktapur, Nepal. Compensation and reward, working environment, career development, job security and co-workers are taken as independent variables and employee job satisfaction as a dependent variable. Using the purposive sampling, 153 employees were selected, and a questionnaire survey was carried out to collect data. Using regression analysis, the study found that compensation and reward, working environment, career development, and job security have significant impact on employee job satisfaction but the relationship with co-workers has negative significant impact on employee job satisfaction in hotels of Bhaktapur. Likewise, the study also revealed that job security has the highest positive significance on employee job satisfaction in hotels of Bhaktapur followed by compensation and reward, working environment and career development opportunities.

  • Satisfaction and Revisiting Behaviour of Tourists in India

    • Authors: Ashish Raina, Varinder Singh Rana
      Pages: 27 - 41
Abstract: Despite the fact that the tourists choose and visit the destination after considering the available information, there are certain aspects of the destination which result in the satisfaction of tourists and their revisit behaviour towards a destination. The present paper aims to create a conceptual framework that incorporates the principles of service efficiency system and an efficiency to measure revisiting and recommendation behaviour at various tourist spots in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It used a formal questionnaire to interview 431 visitors to Jammu and Kashmir, India. Primary data was collected and subjected to a statistical software package for analysis. The dimension reduction (factor analysis) technique on the collected data decreased the 25 proposed variables into five new variable constructs. The finding showed that all new variables were relevant for influencing the overall satisfaction level, be them Indians or foreigners. Moreover, the results signified that the total satisfaction leads to the likelihood that families and friends will visit the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The data review research can contribute to successful tourism industry policies and strategy preparation.

  • Monument Toppling: A Review of International Laws related to
Cultural–Heritage Property and their Implications to Tourism

    • Authors: Bhavinee Singh
      Pages: 42 - 60
Abstract: Recent public conversations around cultural property law have exposed this area of international law to several gaps that exist in this field. Cultural property is key to tourism across the world and brings in the much-needed inflow of money in an economy due to its attraction. However, the entire premise of cultural property law is based on preservation and this common thread runs through almost all international legal instruments and most domestic legislations. In this paper, it is analysed through a careful perusal of the history of international cultural property law, if there is scope to introduce a limited right to destroy cultural – heritage property. This is explored through reading of international human rights law along with cultural property law to advance suggestions of rethinking and revamping this legal regime, as it has strong implications to tourism management. In the conclusion, the paper also explores how tourism management would also be reshaped if the international right to destroy oppressive imagery becomes a part of the discourse

  • Status of Hospitality Education in Nepal: Analysis of the Perspective of
           Hospitality Students and Practitioners

    • Authors: Surya Kiran Shrestha
      Pages: 61 - 79
Abstract: Hospitality Management Institutes have seen tremendous growth in the recent years in Nepal. More and more students have shown their inclination to pursue hospitality related courses from the institutes at national level or at different universities or from private institutes. However, the higher education system of this sector has encountered several constraints and challenges that led us to conduct this study to analyse the status of hospitality education in Nepal. The study employed a blend of qualitative and quantitative research method by delivering a descriptive approach as well as undergoing a simple empirical research. The respondents in this study were 180 final year students from bachelor level hotel management colleges and 10 human resource managers from large stale hotels. The study explored the views of students and hotel practitioners about the courses offered, mismatch of expectation, the skills the hospitality graduates possess and the challenges in retaining them in Nepalese industry. The study revealed the existence of mismatch between the expectation and reality from the bachelor in hotel management course. Further, the hotel practitioners also expressed Nepalese hospitality graduates are capable to take the entry level positions and lack the managerial capability to lead the departments and the organisations.

The current research has explored the factor influencing tourist attitudes towards purchase of thangka paintings. The study used a quantitative research method with a descriptive and explanatory research design. The convenience sampling technique was used where the primary data was collected through a structured questionnaire. The international tourists who purchased thangka paintings in the Thamel and Bouddha area were studied and a total of 156 questionnaires were collected and analysed using a statistical tool such as correlation and regression.
