  • The need for a cultural management support tool that improves
           accessibility in creative tourism

    • Authors: Maria Nastassia Barbaro
      Pages: 32 - 48
Abstract: This article examines the study of how to make creative tourism activities accessible, it is based on investigating the specific needs of potential visitors with disabilities and how to adapt these co-creation activities to them. The main objective is to draw up a Guide that contains accessibility criteria for these creative cultural activities, which also reflects various solutions and tailor-made professional training for companies that require it. To achieve the objective, it is a priority to identify each link in the accessibility value chain, related to leisure activities, to understand what needs to be improved in the phases of the visitor experience, in this case before and during the tourist experience. Professionals who have worked on various accessibility and inclusion projects were interviewed and an analysis of the contents of the existing accessibility manuals was carried out. In addition, potential visitors with disabilities were interviewed, after that, the websites of the destinations that offer creative tourism activities were analysed to determine the level of accessibility of the website and the activity on site. Finally, analysing the results obtained, it was concluded that it does not exist a manual for creative tourism activities and a professional training program. From this point, it was possible to start the creation of the guide and to build the training program for creative tourism activities and it can be considered to adapt all types of tourist activities that involve the added value of co-creation.

  • Swem: The Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Tiv of Central

    • Authors: Terngu Sylvanus Nomishan
      Pages: 50 - 60
Abstract: The Tiv are the major ethnic group living in the Middle Benue Valley of Nigeria. Scholarly writings about the Tiv usually make mention of the Swem as either the ‘ancestral home’ of the Tiv, or an ‘Oath of justice’ generally sworn by the Tiv people to prove innocence and also cleanse the land to avert calamities. To this end, the Swem stands as a tangible and intangible heritage of the Tiv people. Thus, the aim of this research is to discuss the nexus between the Tiv and the Swem, and its impact on the Tiv society. This is because the culture is fast going into extinction and seen its importance in the cultural history of the Tiv people, there is every need to document it for posterity. Consequently, the research has been achieved through the use of primary sources such as the collection of oral traditions and ethnographic information amongst the Ikyurav-ya people and the use of secondary sources. Keywords: Archaeology, Culture, Heritage, Swem, Tiv.

           tourists and tourism businesses’ perceptions

    • Authors: Georgia Zouni, Paraskevi-Myrsini Nasiou , Ioanna Georgaki, Eirini Kapetanaki
      Pages: 61 - 93
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the similarities and differences between tourists and tourism professionals in Greece in relation to: (a) the impact of the pandemic to tourism, (b) the attitude towards global and national measures, and (c) the behavior of tourists in the next phases of the pandemic and post-pandemic times. A research framework was constructed and tested in two waves, during and after lockdown in Greece. Results highlight that the views of tourism businesses and tourists largely converge, following a more pessimistic or a more realistic approach as time goes by and the pandemic continues.

  • Situation of public management of gastronomic tourism in Ecuador: Progress
to 2020 and pending areas of attention for its development.

    • Authors: Lilí Torres Cabezas
      Pages: 94 - 111
Abstract: This research presents the current state of public management of gastronomic tourism in Ecuador up to the year 2020. The theoretical framework focuses on the main worldwide achievements in this area, highlighting those led by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). A research was conducted on the actions and milestones related to this type of tourism and the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), as the main public entity in charge of tourism management at the national level, the outcomes of which are presented in chronological order. This information is followed by the results of a survey addressed to the 221 municipalities, from which 56% of responses were obtained. The questionnaire, designed on the basis of surveys conducted by the UNWTO in previous years, addressed issues of perception, knowledge and local management of the activity in destinations at a local level. The information collected was analysed using as a frame of reference the twelve topics presented in the guide released by the UNWTO and the Basque Culinary Center (BCC) in 2019, as guidelines provided to Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in this aspect. An initial level of progress (low intermediate) was identified in half of the parameters, while a quarter is rated as medium and the rest as low. In the end, the main advances in each area identified are summarized and those pending attention are mentioned, commenting on the importance of their application in the case of Ecuador.

  • Analysis of the tourist potential of Salento (Italy) as a creative tourism

    • Authors: Ilaria Coribello
      Pages: 112 - 127
Abstract: In the general tourist scene, Italy is known for its rich tangible cultural heritage, mostly promoted in the north of the country. On the other hand, the south is still closely related to stereotypical images of mafia and seasonal seaside tourism. In this framework, the objective of this paper is to analyze the creative tourism potential of Salento leccese, based on the hypothesis, according to which this territory has a great Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) that can allow it to become a Creative Tourism (CT) destination. CT is a cultural tourism typology very sustainable throughout the year. The results have made it possible to show the relationship between the main actors, their opinion about the CT, as well as the design of an inventory of the ICH of Salento with creative potential and a diagnosis of the tourist accommodation capacity of this territory. In the conclusions, it has been confirmed that Salento has a big potential strongly linked to its intangible cultural resources, such as the cartapesta leccese, the decorated tables in honor of St. Joseph or the Punto Maglie lace technique, assets which can be included in creative tourism experiences. Based on the results found, some next steps are proposed in order to achieve a more sustainable tourism.

  • Heritage Interpretation and the Portrayal of Gadara for Tourism

    • Authors: Ammar A Alobiedat
      Pages: 1 - 17
Abstract: Heritage interpretation is a powerful issue in destination promotion that could either bolster understanding the value of heritage and increase cultural exchange or lead to heritage manipulation to fit political and economic agendas. Using the heritage site of Gadara in northwest Jordan, this article not only examines Gadara’s heritage interpretation and portrayal in the tourism industry, but also presents a holistic approach to Heritage Studies that fosters the inclusion of all types of heritage resources in congruence with the local context. This approach will diversify the attractiveness of heritage assets to meet the needs of different visitors and enhance the quality of their experiences.

  • Validation of a model of heritage tourism experiences with immersive
           technologies in the Atacama Desert

    • Authors: Alan Muñoz
      Pages: 18 - 31
Abstract: The following work shows the application of a conceptual model of immersive tourism experiences in heritage, to the "Qhapaq an Huella en el Desierto" route located in the Atacama region, Chile. The territory, tangible and intangible heritage, indigenous communities and history are valued, and the evaluated model was chosen for the elements and approaches it presents in its structure, where it stands out to use not only scientific or formally validated information, but also interpretive aspects typical of a local community. The results show that the four components of this model are adequate and conducive to enhancing tourism experiences related to the enjoyment of heritage and conservation, so it could serve as a support methodology for the creation of new heritage-related offers and technologies in tourism.

  • Designing a Mobile Application for Tourism in the Architectural Heritage
           of Tehran

    • Authors: Yahya Sepehri, Alireza Gholinejad Pirbazari
      Pages: 32 - 41
Abstract: Tehran has many valuable historical buildings as historical and populous capital. However, the increasing growth of the city and the uncontrolled prevalence of construction have endangered the city's architectural heritage in recent years. Introducing people to architecturally valuable buildings, and planning to visit them, reduces the risk of demolition. The purpose of this study is to provide a solution for tourism prosperity in Tehran's architectural heritage. This solution is defined in the form of a smartphone-based application. This study first identifies the needs and necessities of the users and measures the advantages and disadvantages of existing applications. Based on these preliminary studies, a model for designing a tourism application is proposed. Then, based on this model, the mechanism and different parts of the application are defined. The suggested application is an interactive and dynamic app. It is user-friendly and is constantly updated with the help of users. Users always encounter new experiences that other users created. The software user interface encourages the audience to be more active and encourages them to visit the building and protect it.
