  • Resident Perception of Conflict with Tourism Enterprise: An Investigation
at A Mountainous Destination in Vietnam

    • Authors: Duong Thi Hien, Tran Duc Thanh
      Pages: 126 - 143
Abstract: Based on extended social exchange theory, the authors propose a framework to investigate the conflict of local residents with tourism businesses. The authors applied a random sampling method and approached 388 residents living in Pu Luong Nature Reserve, a renowned community based tourism destination in Thanh Hoa mountainous area, Vietnam. The findings show that resident’s conflict with tourism business is influenced by latent variables: community’s involvement, perceived benefit and perceived cost. This study is an additional contribution to the theoretical perspective of tourism conflict. In addition, some practical implications are made for local authorities to promote sustainable tourism. Keywords: Conflict, mountainous destination, resident, stakeholder relationship, tourism enterprise

           Village

    • Authors: Anom Hery Suasapha
      Pages: 144 - 156
Abstract: Destinations attributes are important aspects of a tourist destination that will determine visitors' satisfaction. They are also essential for the DMO to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the destination, thus providing the DMO with important information to further develop the destination. Visitors' evaluation of the destination attributes of Penglipuran Village is still unknown. Therefore, his article aims to discuss the visitors’ evaluation of destination attributes of Penglipuran Village to understand attributes the visitors perceived as important and how they are performing. The research implemented a quantitative approach, using the survey as the main method to collect primary data concerning the perception of respondents toward the importance and performance of those destination’s attributes. The sample was determined purposively and chosen from a population of tourism students of Bali Tourism Polytechnic. Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) was used to analyze the data collected from 157 respondents. The result shows that there are six attributes considered very important, with three out of those six performings impressively, while the other three are of poor performance. The result also indicates that eight attributes are considered not important, even though three of those are performing impressively, while the other five are performing poorly. Based on the result, this article recommended for the tourism management organization of Penglipuran Village to focus their attention and effort on attributes plotted on the fourth quadrant of the IPA, while providing suggestions to improve the performance of those important attributes deemed as having poor performance. Key words: evaluation; destination attribute; importance; performance; Penglipuran.

  • Systematic Literature Review and Future Agenda: Leadership Style and
           Dimension in Rural Tourism Settings

    • Authors: Yuviani Kusumawardhani
      Pages: 157 - 173
Abstract: This article aims to outline research developments regarding leadership styles in rural tourism and a leadership measurement index to explore future research direction opportunities. A systematic literature review was conducted by reviewing a total final sample of 15 articles published from 2012-2021; the database sources used in the study were Elsevier, Emerald, MDPI, Taylor and Francais, and Harzing's Publish or Perish with the Scopus API Key based on inclusion and exclusion criteria for analysis and synthesis to meet the purpose of the article. Leadership styles in rural tourism are currently found in 14 leadership styles. All leadership styles in rural tourism illustrate the need for integration and networks to develop successful rural tourism, in contrast to the leadership styles adopted by other sectors. The dimension of leadership measurement in rural tourism is based on the rural tourism characteristics. There are twelve leadership dimensions measurement in rural tourism that are different from the measurement of leadership in general. There are theoretical and empirical gaps, so one of the challenges in applying the dimensions of leadership measurement is bridging research with applications in other sectors. This literature review is presented to describe the leadership style in rural tourism that is needed and has been widely adopted to help and support the community to find a successful leadership style in developing rural tourism.

  • Tourist Satisfaction Patterns and Index for Travel Companions While
           Traveling in Bali

    • Authors: Ni Ketut Arismayanti, I Ketut Suwena, I Made Sendra
      Pages: 218 - 234
Abstract: The travel of tourists to a destination forms a pattern of tourist travel. Likewise, a tourist's journey during a trip has an influence on satisfaction and tourists in terms of the choice of destinations visited, memories made, joy in traveling, as well as the tendency to be more important between the chosen destinations compared to travel companions. This study aims to analyze the pattern of tourist travel and the index of tourist satisfaction with travel companions in traveling in Bali. This study uses a large sample with the Slovin formula for an error level of 4 percent. Questionnaires were distributed by accident to 600 tourists. Data were analyzed by Importance Performance Analysis, Customer Satisfaction Index and qualitative descriptive. The characteristics of tourists who travel to Bali are relatively young adults in terms of age and education and a high level of mastery of technology. Most tourists look for information on the internet in addition to recommendations from family and friends before tourists travel to Bali. This reflects that there has been a change in the use of travel services, media promotion, advertising and other prints. The pattern of door trips visiting Bali shows a spider web pattern, which is the first center (hub) pattern from entering tourist attractions spread across regencies/cities in Bali. The level of suitability of travel indicators in traveling in Bali shows that it is not appropriate or does not meet the expectations of tourists to Bali in general. Tourist satisfaction with travel companions in the index of traveling in Bali is 83.97 (very satisfied/appropriate). Keywords: travel patterns, travel companions, tourist satisfaction, Bali
