           Sandez en Girón, Ecuador = Finite element structural analysis of the

      Abstract: La socavación de las cimentaciones puede causar fallas estructurales con graves consecuencias. El proceso de socavación tiene un carácter progresivo y, dependiendo de las condiciones en las que se desarrolla, los efectos de este proceso podrían ser controlados oportunamente para evitar el colapso de las estructuras. Este artículo presenta los resultados de la modelización numérica mediante elementos finitos del colapso del puente de la calle Arturo Sandez en el cantón Girón, Ecuador. El análisis se realizó en un modelo de elementos finitos sólidos en el programa Midas Civil. El estudio del estado tenso-deformacional del puente se realizó en diferentes etapas de socavación y los resultados obtenidos demuestran que, si durante una valoración física se detectan daños en una estructura, entonces es necesario realizar una evaluación numérica de su estado tenso-deformacional. Esta acción permitirá pronosticar la evolución del estado tenso-deformacional de la estructura y tomar las medidas correctivas de manera técnica y oportuna para prevenir el colapso. Este estudio muestra que la socavación inicialmente detectada casi un año antes del colapso constituía un 5.86% de la superficie de cimentación, el inicio del fallo del estribo izquierdo se produjo cuando el área de la socavación alcanzó el 25.48%, y el fallo irreversible de la estructura se produjo cuando la socavación alcanzó un el 39.41% de la superficie de cimentación. Los resultados expuestos demuestran que una modelización numérica pudo prevenir el colapso del puente y permitir tomar las medidas necesarias de mitigación.AbstractFoundation scour can cause structural failure with serious consequences. The scour process has a progressive character and, depending on the conditions under which it develops, the effects of this process can be controlled in a timely manner to avoid the collapse of structures. This paper presents the results of the numerical modelling of the collapse of the Arturo Sandez bridge in Girón, Ecuador. The analysis was performed in a solid finite element model in the Midas Civil software. The study of the stress-strain state of the bridge was carried out at different stages of scour and the results obtained show that, if damage to a structure is detected during a physical assessment, it is necessary to carry out a numerical evaluation of its stress-strain state. This action will allow the stress-strain state of the structure to be predicted and corrective measures to be taken in a technical and timely manner to prevent collapse. This study shows that the scour initially detected almost one year before the collapse constituted 5.86% of the foundation area, the onset of failure of the left abutment occurred when the scour area reached 25.48%, and the irreversible failure of the structure occurred when the scour reached an area of 39.41%. The above results demonstrate that numerical modelling was able to prevent the collapse of the bridge and allow the necessary mitigation measures to be implemented.

  • The Symbiosis between Artificial Intelligence and Secondary School
           Mathematics Teaching = La Simbiosis entre la Inteligencia Artificial y la
           Enseñanza de Matemáticas en la Escuela Secundaria

      Abstract: Este artículo examina la simbiosis en constante evolución entre la inteligencia artificial y la enseñanza de matemáticas en la educación secundaria. La inteligencia artificial ha emergido como un recurso valioso que transforma la pedagogía matemática al personalizar y mejorar la experiencia de aprendizaje. En primer lugar, se analiza cómo la inteligencia artificial permite la adaptación de los contenidos y métodos de enseñanza de acuerdo con las necesidades y el ritmo de cada estudiante, facilitando así un aprendizaje más efectivo y significativo. Se presentan ejemplos de herramientas y plataformas de inteligencia artificial que están siendo implementadas con éxito en las aulas de secundaria. Además, se exploran los resultados más relevantes de la integración de la inteligencia artificial en la educación matemática. Se observa un aumento en la motivación y el compromiso de los estudiantes, así como una mejora en sus habilidades matemáticas. Estos resultados se respaldan con datos y estudios recientes que demuestran los beneficios tangibles de esta simbiosis. Finalmente, se llega a la conclusión de que la inteligencia artificial está enriqueciendo de manera significativa la enseñanza de matemáticas en secundaria al brindar un enfoque más personalizado y eficiente. No obstante, se subraya la importancia de una implementación cuidadosa y ética de estas tecnologías, junto con la continua capacitación de los docentes. Este artículo destaca cómo la integración de la inteligencia artificial en las clases de matemáticas de secundaria está redefiniendo la educación matemática y mejorando las perspectivas de éxito académico de los estudiantes, al tiempo que plantea importantes consideraciones para su implementación futura.Abstract
      This article examines the evolving symbiosis between artificial intelligence and mathematics education in secondary education. Artificial intelligence has emerged as a valuable resource that transforms mathematics pedagogy by personalizing and enhancing the learning experience. First, we analyze how artificial intelligence enables the adaptation of content and teaching methods according to the needs and pace of each student, thus facilitating more effective and meaningful learning. Examples of artificial intelligence tools and platforms that are being successfully implemented in secondary classrooms are presented. In addition, the most relevant results of the integration of artificial intelligence in mathematics education are explored. An increase in students' motivation and engagement is observed, as well as an improvement in their mathematical skills. These results are supported by recent data and studies that demonstrate the tangible benefits of this symbiosis. Finally, it is concluded that artificial intelligence is significantly enriching secondary mathematics teaching by providing a more personalized and efficient approach. However, the importance of careful and ethical implementation of these technologies, along with continued teacher training, is emphasized. This article highlights how the integration of arithmetic intelligence into mathematics education can help to improve the quality of mathematics education

      Abstract: La metodología IPBL está orientada según una actuación realista que sitúa al estudiante en un proceso en condiciones similares a las que se va a enfrentar en un encargo profesional real. Desde el curso 2020-2021, la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad Europea de Canarias se enfrenta a una serie de retos globales propuestos por diferentes organismos, retos dentro de los cuales se integran diferentes asignaturas de todas las áreas de conocimiento de la Arquitectura. Integrando en un proyecto global el desarrollo de las competencias profesionales completas en Arquitectura -aquellas necesarias para desarrollar un proyecto básico y de ejecución- en asignaturas del Grado en Fundamentos de la Arquitectura y del Máster en Arquitectura. Para ello, se han distribuido a través de diversas asignaturas conectadas entre el grado y el máster, potenciando la adquisición de competencias profesionales y competencias personales. La integración técnica de ambas titulaciones desde la capacidad documental profesional del proyecto básico y de ejecución ha sido estudiada por comparación directa tanto en secuencia temporal de implantación, con notables mejoras de calidad documental técnica, autopercepción y capacidad de respuesta intuitiva a proyecto.Abstract
      IPBL methodology is based on a realistic approach that places students in a process in conditions similar to those they will face in a real professional assignment. From the academic year 2020-2021, the School of Architecture of the UEC is facing a series of global challenges proposed by different organisations, challenges within which different subjects from all areas of knowledge of Architecture are integrated. Integrating the multiple challenges demanded by project-based learning, the development of the complete professional competences in Architecture -those necessary to develop a basic Architectural Project and its execution- in subjects of the Bachelor's Degree in Foundations of Architecture and the Master's Degree in Architecture have been distributed through different subjects connected between the Bachelor's Degree and the Master's Degree, promoting the acquisition of professional and personal competences. The technical integration of both degrees from the professional documentary capacity of the basic and execution project has been studied by direct comparison both in time sequence of implementation, with notable improvements in technical documentary quality, self-perception and intuitive response capacity to the project.

  • Strategies and Virtual Tools for Teaching Building Construction to Civil
           Engineering Undergraduates: A Case Study = Estrategias y herramientas
           virtuales para la enseñanza de Construcción de Edificaciones en el
           programa de ingeniería civil: Un estudio de caso

      Abstract: El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar las técnicas efectivas empleadas para enseñar construcción de edificaciones en el tercer año de un programa de la carrera de ingeniería civil de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Este enfoque implicó integrar plataformas virtuales y software para realizar videoconferencias y laboratorios en las que se utilizan herramientas como Building Information Modeling (BIM) y Lean Construction, entre otras. Esta metodología balanceada sirve como un modelo exitoso para impartir conocimientos sobre la construcción de edificaciones. Las visitas a obra se simularon mediante recorridos virtuales creados con la tecnología scanner laser, fotogrametría y BIM. Los gemelos digitales generados se colocaron en plataformas en línea y los estudiantes recorrieron interactivamente el proyecto de construcción. Adicionalmente, los estudiantes desarrollaron planos de layout utilizando modelos BIM 3D y 4D. Durante la asignatura también se instruyó a los alumnos en el análisis de precios unitarios y en las mediciones de las actividades de obra a través de la metodología BIM con software 5D, teniendo como resultado el desarrollo de los presupuestos. La efectividad de esta metodología se evidencia en la alta calidad de los trabajos académicos, evaluaciones y encuestas realizadas a los estudiantes. Esta propuesta también ganó el Premio a la Innovación y Mejores Prácticas en Docencia convocado por la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, concurso en donde un jurado internacional de expertos especializados en innovación docente evaluó el desarrollo de competencias genéricas y habilidades colaborativas generadas, destacando la claridad, alineación curricular y el carácter sostenible y transferible de la innovación implementada.Abstract
      The objective of this report is to showcase the effective techniques employed to teach building construction in a third-year civil engineering program at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. This approach involves integrating virtual platforms and software for video conferences and laboratories, while utilizing tools like Building Information Modeling and Lean construction, among other systems. This balanced methodology serves as a successful model for imparting knowledge on building construction. Construction site visits were simulated by virtual tours created using scanner laser technology, photogrammetry, and BIM. The generated digital twins were placed on online platforms. Students interactively toured the construction project with input from professionals managing the project. Additionally, students developed layout plans using 3D and 4D BIM models. The course, however, instructed on generating and analyzing unit prices and conducting quantity surveys of activities through the BIM methodology with 5D software, resulting in the development of project budgets. The
      effectiveness of this methodology is evident in the high-quality papers, evaluations, and student surveys. This proposal also won the Award for Innovation and Best Practices in Teaching 2022 organized by the Pontificia
      Universidad Catolica del Peru, where an international jury of experts in teaching innovation evaluated the development of generic competencies and collaborative skills generated in students, highlighting the clarity, curricular alignment and the sustainable and transferable nature of the innovation implemented.
