- The Texas Water Journal Resumes Author Webinar Series in September
Authors: Texas Water Journal Abstract: On September 13th at 11am, presenters Kartik Venkataraman (Tarleton State University), Narayanan Kannan (U.S. Department of Agriculture), and Victoria Chraibi (Tarleton State University) will present "Low Flow Trends in Ecologically Unique Stream Segments." The speakers will present new research published in the Texas Water Journal on Texas stream flows that is highly relevant to the evaluation the reliability of surface water rights issued by the State of Texas. This information is the type of evidence used by stakeholders who desire to protect existing legal rights or secure new legal rights to surface water pursuant to the Texas Water Code and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s regulations under the prior appropriation doctrine. In this study, the authors evaluated low flow trends in seven hydrologically unique stream segments from 1970 to 2019. Their findings provide new insights on the influence of climate on stream flow and the reliability of surface water rights issued by the State of Texas. Registration for this webinar is free. - The Texas Water Journal Updates its Publication Styles
Authors: Texas Water Journal Abstract: Based on accumulated feedback from our authors and changing preferences within the water community, the Texas Water Journal (TWJ) has made changes to the publication styles that we will accept. Beginning June 22, 2023, TWJ will no longer use the Council of Science Editor’s (CSE) style. In place of CSE three styles have been added. The first of these styles is now our preferred publication style found in The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th Edition. However, we will now also accept The Chicago Manual of Style (Chicago), 17th Edition, and Suggestions to Authors of the Reports of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), 8th Edition. Chicago was added because it is commonly used within the water community, and USGS was added to accommodate USGS’s internal publication requirements. For legal articles, the preferred style guide is still The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 21st Edition. Some specific exceptions apply to the styles listed above. We therefore have updated our own style guidelines, which authors should use in conjunction with the their selected style. See our Author Guidelines for more information about the journal's style and formatting. TWJ is an online, peer-reviewed, and indexed journal devoted to Texas water resources management, research, and policy issues from a multidisciplinary perspective integrating science, engineering, law, planning, and other disciplines. You can find out more about the Texas Water Journal and register to receive the journal on our website, http://texaswaterjournal.org. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Texas Water Journal needs your support. Please consider making a donation through our website. PubDate: 2023-06-23

- The Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin Joins
the Texas Water Journal Partnership Authors: Texas Water Journal Abstract: The Bureau of Economic Geology (Bureau) at The University of Texas at Austin has joined the partnership that publishes the Texas Water Journal. Beginning with the first article in 2023, the Bureau will work with the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) at Texas A&M University and the Texas Water Journal 501(c)(3) to publish the Texas Water Journal (TWJ). “The addition of the Bureau of Economic Geology to the Texas Water Journal partnership represents a true milestone for the journal. With the Bureau’s assistance the journal will be able to process and publish more articles each year,” noted Dr. Todd Votteler, TWJ’s Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Ken Wisian, Associate Director: Environmental Division of the Bureau said, “Water is only becoming more critical to Texas with time. Teaming with the TWJ, bringing our world-class expertise and supporting capabilities to bear perfectly aligns with our mission to serve the public and is a win-win for all stakeholders in Texas.” The Bureau of Economic Geology was established in 1909 and is the Texas State Geological Survey with a mission to serve society by conducting objective, impactful, and integrated geoscience research on relevant energy, environmental, and economic issues. The Bureau is the oldest research unit of The University of Texas and has been an integral part of the development of the state’s economic success through the years. TWJ was established in 2007, and is governed by the board of directors of the nonprofit Texas Water Journal a 501(c)(3). TWRI was established in 1952, and became the official water resources institute of Texas in 1964. Today, TWRI is one of 54 institutes within the National Institutes for Water Resources, supported by the U.S. Geological Survey. TWRI is also a unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, AgriLife Extension Service and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In 2010, the Texas Water Journal 501(c)(3) partnered with TWRI to begin publishing TWJ. TWJ is an online, peer-reviewed, and indexed journal devoted to Texas water resources management, research, and policy issues from a multidisciplinary perspective integrating science, engineering, law, planning, and other disciplines.
