Authors: Kateryna Kazhan, Kateryna Synylo, Oleksandr Zaporozhets, Sergii Karpenko Pages: 1 - 25 Abstract: The paper is targeted at the analysis of the importance of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data in the terms of overcoming gaps between aircraft noise and local air quality modelling results and their short or long-term measurements. Presented results based on noise and air pollution measurement campaign at Ukrainian airports describe general peculiarities of the pre-processing and usage of ADS-B data during specific stages of aircraft landing and taking-off (LTO) cycle in the airport. The outcomes could be used for more accurate noise and air pollution exposure assessment and the development of recommendations for noise and local air quality monitoring systems in airports under consideration. The concepts of sustainability, already present in aviation, and digitalisation, have become even more important in the industry. As digitisation and sustainability are two processes that need to be done together and are interdependent, and the results of which will have an impact on all stakeholders, whether positive or negative, they need to be completed successfully. Smart airports are airports where networked technologies such as IoT devices are widely used to support operations and operational planning and management. In this way, airports can become paperless and reduce environmental waste and pollutants. In this study, the concepts of sustainability and digitalisation are first discussed separately and then together, as well as the difficulties that digitalisation will bring and the contribution of digitalisation to aviation sustainability. Authors: Teresa Donateo, Ludovica Spada Chiodo, Antonio Ficarella Pages: 41 - 57 Abstract: Amongst the most concerning issues regarding hybrid electric propulsive systems (HEPS), together with sizing and control, is that of energy management strategy (EMS). EMS is crucial for the optimal usage of the system itself and is generally aimed at the minimisation of fuel consumption while keeping under control the battery state of charge, especially if the electric path of the HEPS is also used to ensure power availability in the case of engine failure. However, the battery is prone to fast degradation during its useful life. Therefore, it is particularly important to include battery aging effects in the energy management strategy. The present study compares two different approaches in the energy management strategy of a rotorcraft for urban air mobility, age-dependent and age-independent, on a given mission. The parallel HEPS includes a turboshaft engine, two electric motors, and a lithium battery whose degradation is analysed in terms of capacity, internal resistance, and Peukert coefficient. The results show that the age-dependent strategy determines a more conservative usage of the battery with the consequence of achieving a higher degree of safety at the expense of slightly higher fuel consumption. There are also some challenges with electric aircraft, as in every new technology. These are storage technology, electric propulsion system comprising electric machine and power electronics converters, protection devices, wiring, thermal management of components, certification, and system/component integration. Electrification is once started with more electric aircraft, and ongoing research and development projects will light the way for the fully electric aircraft era in the future. This paper highlights the challenges of aircraft electrification and presents the current situation on electrification. Authors: Hayriye TuÄba Sekban, Abdullah BaÅçi Pages: 73 - 88 Abstract: In this paper, fractional order terminal sliding mode control (FOTSMC) method is used for trajectory tracking control performance of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). Firstly, a kinematic controller is designed to estimate the linear and angular velocities of the vehicle. Then, a FOTSMC design is carried out to track the vehicle reference velocities. Terminal sliding mode control (TSMC) and sliding mode control (SMC) methods are also used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed controller. The simulation results show that the proposed controller improves the tracking error by about 13% over SMC and 6.146% compared to TSMC.
