  • Effectiveness of the Simulation of Acoustic Protection for a Specific
           Urban Situation

      Abstract: The present article is addressing the problem of street noise investigation in urban agglomeration and the simulation of protection devices against noise. Noise levels were measured in the vicinity of the national road in Bieruń, Silesia in Poland. The publication attempts to assess the acoustic climate between a roundabout and an intersection. Based on the measured noise, the acoustic mapping was made in the SoundPlan program. The range of noise impact from the examined road section was determined. Finally, two concepts of preventive measures limiting the excessive impacts on the environment were presented, along with the indication of the impact on building development, business operations as well as transport links and traffic.

  • Investigation of Distracted Pedestrians' Exposure Duration at
           Signalized and Unsignalized Pedestrian Crossings: A Bayesian Modeling

      Abstract: During the last decades, distraction caused by mobile phones has created concerns about pedestrians' safety, especially while crossing a road. The aim of this paper is to investigate the factors that have an effect on the crossing duration of pedestrians, distracted by mobile phone use, at both signalized and unsignalized crossings. Pedestrians with mobile phones were observed during crossing the aforementioned types of crossings in Thessaloniki, Greece, while their crossing duration was further examined via the development of Bayesian regression models, one for unsignalized and one for signalized crossings. For the research purposes, 554 pedestrians were observed at unsignalized crossings and 409 at signalized ones. The most commonly observed type of distraction was talking on the mobile phone, while texting was also found to be very common. The variables, found to be associated with crossing duration, were significantly different between unsignalized and signalized crossings. Crossing duration at unsignalized crossings seemed to be affected by the experience of a potential conflict with a motorized vehicle and the presence of additional distractors, such as the carrying of an object and the presence of company. At signalized crossings, duration tended to be influenced by the age of the pedestrian and the position before crossing. Current research contributes in understanding and modeling distracted pedestrians' behavior when crossing streets.

  • Simulation and Validation with Radio-Controlled (RC) Autonomous Vehicles
           in Roundabout Situation

      Abstract: In the present research paper, the authors provide an extensive overview about a so far uninvestigated approach regarding the research and development (R&D) of Autonomous Vehicle Technologies, an exhaustive investigation concerning the simulation and validation of roundabout situation with radio-controlled (RC) autonomous vehicles, as well as the examination of RC vehicles' applicability in the testing processes of Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) technologies. Through this research project, the authors are offering a thorough analysis concerning the most current Autonomous Driving Systems from the point of view of their operation in roundabout related environments, as well as have developed two small-scaled RC autonomous vehicle models, which are capable of being used in the testing and validation processes concerning research studies related to the field of autonomous vehicles. This paper represents the first of a two-part in-depth examination of the aforementioned subject matter, organized in six sections, each contributing significantly to the realization of the final structure of a unique and comprehensive project.

  • Assessment of Dangerous Traffic Situations for Autonomous Vehicles

      Abstract: This article will show some dangerous situations with autonomous vehicles. The main question in this article is how does the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) as an autonomous vehicle function work' In which cases must the driver act and how. The research showed some real life examples based on a Euro NCAP test. The car manufacturers say that the modern ACC systems can be well used in urban traffic, especially in traffic jam, but there can be some critical situations which can cause an accident if the driver does not act. These situations are collected in this article. The main aim of the article is to identify a methodological framework for estimating the proper operation conditions related to the analyzed automated driving assistant systems.

Though the selection of a specific model hinges on the objective of the research and nature of the response, when compared to statistical modeling techniques, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), which can model complex nonlinear relationships among dependent and independent parameters, have been witnessed to be very powerful.

  • Critical Gap in Roundabouts – A Short Comparison of Estimation

      Abstract: Gap-acceptance method is one of the classical methods used to analyze the capacity of roundabouts. Critical gap has a privileged role in this approach. Different driver behavior and local rules of traffic have key role in implementing gap-acceptance method into the local standard for capacity calculation in each country. Therefore, a reliable method for estimation of critical gap at a certain location can be of great importance. This paper presents an experimental investigation and analysis on whether it is possible to find differences between estimating critical gap using video-based gap acceptance data of roundabouts in Hungary. Three single lane roundabouts of different size were recorded for hours in different locations in Budapest and Érd to assess gap acceptance data. Three different methods or models were used to estimate critical gap and no significant differences were found between their results.

  • Organization of Cargo Traffic Using Ferry Connections

      Abstract: The observed development of ferry transport in the Baltic Sea is associated with the development of trade exchange between the countries of this region. Cargo transportation constitutes a significant part of these carriages. Disturbances in the organization and implementation of transport chains with the participation of ferry shipping may cause delays in the delivery of cargo to customers. Therefore, it is reasonable to look for solutions to streamline the organization of these processes. The aim of the article is to identify the current state and to analyze the organization of the process of cargo transportation with the use of ferry shipping. The ferry line connecting the ports of Liepaja (Latvia) and Travemünde (Germany) was considered in details. On the basis of surveys carried out among truck drivers and owners of transport companies on the ways of transport organization, the selected aspects related to the planning of the transport process with the use of ferry shipping were determined. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, recommendations were made to improve the organization of cargo transportation in ferry shipping.

  • Analysis of Customer Service Quality Models and for their Approbation
           Opportunities in Aviation

      Abstract: The article examines tools, which may be used to assess service quality in aviation and to analyze service quality models. Many experts analyzing customer service state that a good customer service is one of the most important reasons for customer satisfaction and loyalty. This is particularly important in aviation customer service, because aviation services are subject to higher requirements due to the specifics of the service. In pursuit of the top-level customer service, refining customer needs and expectations becomes very important, because knowing customer expectations allows purposefully focusing the customer service process based on them and achieving high customer satisfaction. Also, the nature of customer service in aviation is different; here staff must be trained with more scrutiny and examples of specific situations.
      In order to investigate the quality of customer service, conducting a theoretical analysis of customer needs or service criteria alone is not sufficient. Customer service quality is perceived differently due to a variety of factors, thus service quality models are used to find out customer expectations or to identify service gaps, also helping to conduct analyses and to improve processes. The analysis of customer service models revealed that they have not been adapted for aviation due to the following: their focus on a single service factor, the lack of relationship between components, neglected role of employees in customer service, and the like.

  • Evaluation of the Impact of Different Types of Uncoupling on the
           Processing Capacity of Hump Yards

      Abstract: The paper considers the issue of evaluating the impact of different types of uncoupling to increase the processing capacity of hump yards to ensure high technical-economic indicators in the conditions of limited capital funds. Moreover it describes the mathematical formulation of the sorting slide. For the mathematical formulation, the sorting slide is taken as a surface that is uniquely projected onto a horizontal plane. Based on the results of calculations, more accurate data on the speeds of movement along the downhill part of the slide are determined. This data is compared with experimental results.

  • Effect of Weight in Motion Detection System on Road Enforcement Network of

      Abstract: After two years of legislative preparation, the introduction of National Dynamic Axle Weight Measurement System was done in 2018. More than 100 control points were deployed in Hungary. This paper aims to present a brief summary of the technological background of a large-scale integration of High Speed WIM systems, and their effect on road usage. Detailed statistical analyses of preliminary results were conducted. The introduction of vehicle in motion dynamic mass measurement system in Hungary had not caused significant changes in road usage in the investigated period on the investigated road segment. The ratio between nationality (domestic or foreign) of heavy road vehicles had not changed due to introduction of vehicle in motion dynamic mass measurement system.

  • The Impact of the Positioning of Parts on the Variable Production Costs in
           the Case of Additive Manufacturing

      Abstract: Additive manufacturing is becoming increasingly widespread in many areas of life. One of the main reasons for this is that the machines, raw materials and manufacturing are becoming cheaper. The cheaper the technology, the more widespread it is. The cost of production is influenced by many factors. One of these shows the impact of the part's production positioning (placement in the working space) on costs in the following study. On this basis, we can simplify the traditional pricing strategy. From the results, we can determine how economically it is worth to place the parts in the work area of the machine.
