  • Production Planning and Control as Routing in Manufacturing Networks

      Abstract: In this paper, we explore the use of network routing for production planning and control in manufacturing of complex industrial products. Such a product is the result of a joint effort of many manufacturing companies; each considered a collection of work centre nodes connected by transportation links forming a company-wide manufacturing network. Each company is, in turn considered a manufacturing node connected to other manufacturers by transportation links forming a distributed manufacturing network that produces the final product. We model the manufacturing network as a distribution network where the incoming and outgoing inventories of products are distinct nodes in addition to the work centre nodes. Production planning and control are done by minimizing the cost of handling all products in all work centre nodes. This formulation provides a scalable and flexible production planning and control scheme adhering to the networked structure of manufacturing of complex products. We apply the model to a company-wide manufacturing network as a first approach. A case study using the model demonstrates production planning using network routing at a manufacturer of ship propulsion engines.

  • Statistical Evaluation of Large-Scale Data Logistics System

      Abstract: Data recording is struggling with the occurrence of errors, which worsen the accuracy of follow-up calculations. Achievement of satisfactory results requires the data processing to eliminate the influence of errors. This paper applies a data reconciliation technique for mining of data from  ecording movement vehicles. The database collects information about the start and end point of the route (GPS coordinates) and total duration.
      The presented methodology smooths available data and allows to obtain an estimation of transportation time through individual parts of the entire recorded route. This process allows obtaining valuable information which can be used for further transportation planning. First, the proposed mathematical model is tested on simplifled example. The real data application requires necessary preprocessing within which anticipated routes are designed. Thus, the database is supplemented with information on the probable speed of the vehicle. The mathematical model is based on weighted least squares data reconciliation which is organized iteratively. Due to the time-consuming calculation, the linearised model is computed to initialize the values for a complex model. The attention is also paid to the weight setting. The weighing system is designed to reflect the quality of specific data and the dependence on the frequency of trafic. In this respect, the model is not strict, which leaves the possibility to adapt to the current data. The case study focuses on the GPS data of shipping vehicles in the particular city in the Czech Republic with several types of roads.

  • Stochastic Integer Waste Management Problem Solved by a Modified
           Progressive Hedging Algorithm

      Abstract: In this paper we describe a real-world large-scale stochastic integer waste-management decision making problem. The problem consists of choosing the optimal locations and capacities of new incineration plants, that will be used for the disposal of waste. To solve this problem, we implement a modied version of the progressive hedging algorithm. The presented case study with real-world data concerns the situation in the Czech Republic.

  • Including Containers with Dangerous Goods in the Multi-Port Master Bay
           Planning Problem

      Abstract: In this paper we extend existing models for Master Bay Planning by handling containers holding dangerous goods, so-called IMO containers. Incompatible IMO containers must be separated from each other on board a vessel according to specic rules. These rules affect both Master Bay Planning and Slot Planning, which are the two planning problems normally handled in container stowage planning. Some research is done
      to include IMO containers in Slot Planning, but, to the best of our knowledge, this is the rst time handling of IMO containers is included in Master Bay Planning. We present results from computational tests showing that our model can be solved to optimality, or near optimality, in reasonable time for realistically sized instances.

  • WECIA Graph: Visualization of Classification Performance Dependency on
           Grayscale Conversion Setting

      Abstract: Grayscale conversion is a popular operation performed within image pre-processing of many computer vision systems, including systems aimed at generic object categorization. The grayscale conversion is a lossy operation. As such, it can signicantly in uence performance of the systems. For generic object categorization tasks, a weighted means grayscale conversion proved to be appropriate. It allows full use of the grayscale
      conversion potential due to weighting coefficients introduced by this conversion method. To reach a desired performance of an object categorization system, the weighting coefficients must be optimally setup. We demonstrate that a search for an optimal setting of the system must be carried out in a cooperation with an expert. To simplify the expert involvement in the optimization process, we propose a WEighting Coefficients Impact Assessment (WECIA) graph. The WECIA graph displays dependence of classication performance on setting of the weighting coefficients for one particular setting of remaining adjustable parameters. We point out a fact that an expert analysis of the dependence using the WECIA graph allows identication of settings leading to undesirable performance of an assessed system.

  • Using Artificial Intelligence to Determine the Type of Rotary Machine

      Abstract: The article deals with the possibility of using machine learning in vibrodiagnostics to determine the type of fault of rotating machine. The data source is real measured data from the vibrodiagnostic model. This model allows simulation of some types of faults. The data is then processed and reduced for the use of the Matlab Classication learner app, which creates a model for recognizing faults. The model is ultimately tested on new samples of data. The aim of the article is to verify the ability to recognize similarly rotary machine faults from real measurements in the time domain.

  • Fire Detection in Video Stream by Using Simple Artificial Neural Network

      Abstract: This paper deals with the preliminary research of the fire detection in a video stream. Early fire detection can save lives and properties from huge losses and damages. Therefore the surveillance of the areas is necessary. Early fire discovery with high accuracy, i.e. a low number of false positive or false negative cases, is essential in any environment, especially in places with the high motion of people. The traditional fire detection sensors have some drawbacks: they need separate systems and infrastructure to be implemented, to use sensors in the case of the industrial environment with open fire technologies is often impossible, and others. The fire detection in a video stream is one of the possible and feasible solutions suitable for replacement or supplement of conventional fire detection sensors without a need for installation a huge infrastructure. The paper provides the state of the art in the fire detection. The following part of the paper proposes the new system of feature extraction and describes the feedforward neural network which was used for the training and testing of the proposed idea. The promising results are presented with over 93% accuracy on a selected dataset of movies which consist of more and highly varied instances than published by other researchers involved in the fire detection field. The structure of the neural networks promises higher computational speed than currently implemented deep learning systems.

  • Differential Evolution and Deterministic Chaotic Series: A Detailed Study

      Abstract: This research represents a detailed insight into the modern and popular hybridization of deterministic chaotic dynamics and evolutionary computation. It is aimed at the influence of chaotic sequences on the performance of four selected Differential Evolution (DE) variants. The variants of interest were: original DE/Rand/1/ and DE/Best/1/ mutation schemes, simple parameter adaptive jDE, and the recent state of the art version SHADE. Experiments are focused on the extensive investigation of the different randomization schemes for the selection of individuals in DE algorithm driven by the nine different two-dimensional discrete deterministic chaotic systems, as the chaotic pseudorandom number generators. The performances of DE variants and their chaotic/non-chaotic versions are recorded in the one-dimensional settings of 10D and 15 test functions from the CEC 2015 benchmark, further statistically analyzed.

  • Influence of Experiment Design in GPA Investigating with Respect to PRNGs

      Abstract: This paper analyses the influence of experiment parameters onto the reliability of experiments with genetic programming algorithms. The paper is focused on the required number of experiments and especially on the influence of parallel execution which affect not only the order of thread execution but also behaviors of pseudo random number generators, which frequently do not respect recommendation of C++11 standard and are not implemented as thread safe. The observations and the effect of the suggested improvements are demonstrated on results of 720,000 experiments.

      Abstract: The actual applications of the radiofrequency identification (RFID) systems in industry are focused not only on the identification but also on the localization of the RFID transponders. The special type of the RFID transponders is used to localize and to identify the underground facility networks such as pipes and cables. In such applications the RFID transponders are called markers. The paper describes an analysis of the correlation receiver for RSSI based localization of the inductive coupled RFID markers. The analysis is performed by the modeling of the localization device and the marker in Matlab – Simulink software. The aim of the analysis is to examine the ability of the correlation receiver to suppress the interfering signals from industrial sources, for example from the long wave telemetry transmitters which have their working frequencies in the same band as the working frequencies of the markers.

  • Particle Swarm Optimization with Distance Based Repulsivity

      Abstract: In this study, we propose a repulsive mechanism for the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm that improves its performance on multi-modal problems. The repulsive mechanism is further extended with a distance-based modification. The results are presented and tested for statistical significance. We discuss the observations and propose further directions for the research.
