  • Combinatorial description around any vertex of a cubical
           n-manifold

    • Abstract: Abstract: We say that a topological space N is a cubical n-manifold if it is a topological manifold of dimension n contained in the n-skeleton of the canonical cubulation of ℝ n+2 . For instance, any smooth n-knot n ( ℝ n+2 can be deformed by an ambient isotopy into a cubical n-knot. An open question is the following: Is any closed, oriented, cubical n-manifold N in ℝ n+2 , n > 2, smoothable' If the response is positive, we could give a discrete description of any smooth n-manifold; in particular, if we can stablish that for smooth n-knots, that fact can be useful to define invariants. One of the main dificulties to answer the above question lies in the understanding of how N looks at each vertex of the canonical cubulation. In this paper, we analyze all possible combinatorial behaviors around any vertex of any cubical manifold of dimension n, via the study of the cycles on the complete graph K 2n .Resumen: Una n-variedad cubulada N es una variedad topológica de dimensión n que está encajada en el n-esqueleto de la cubulación canónica de ℝ n+2 . En particular, cualquier n-nudo suave n ( ℝ n+2 puede ser deformado por una isotopía ambiente en un n-nudo cubulado. Una pregunta abierta es la siguiente ¿cualquier n-variedad cubulada, cerrada y orientable N en ℝn+2, n > 2, es suavizable' Si la respuesta es afirmativa, entonces podremos dar una descripción discreta de cualquier n-variedad suave; en específico, podremos aplicarla para n-nudos suaves y utilizarla para definir invariantes. Una de las principales dificultades para responder la pregunta anterior radica en la comprensión de como es N en cada vértice de la cubulación canónica. En este artículo, analizamos todos los posibles comportamientos combinatorios alrededor de cualquier vértice de una variedad cubulada de dimensión n, a través del estudio de los ciclos de la gráfica completa K 2n .
       
  • On frames that are iterates of a multiplication operator

    • Abstract: Abstract: A result from the recent paper of the first named author on frame properties of iterates of the multiplication operator Tφf = φf implies in particular that a system of the form {φ n }∞ n=0 cannot be a frame in L 2(a, b). The classical exponential system shows that the situation changes drastically when one considers systems of the form {φ n }∞ n=- ∞ instead of {φ n }∞ n= 0. This note is dedicated to the characterization of all frames of the form {φ n }∞ n=- ∞ coming from iterates of the multiplication operator T (. It is shown in this note that this problem can be reduced to the following one: Problem. Find (or describe a class of ) all real-valued functions α for which {e inα(.) }+∞ n=-∞ is a frame in L2(a, b). In this note we give a partial answer to this problem. To our knowledge, in the general statement, this problem remains unanswered not only for frame, but also for Schauder and Riesz basicity properties and even for orthonormal basicity of systems of the form {e inα(.) }+∞ n=-∞ .Resumen: Un resultado reciente por parte del primer autor del artículo acerca de marcos muestra que para las iteraciones del operador multiplicativo Tφf = φf un sistema de la forma {φ n }∞ n=0 no puede ser un marco para L 2(a, b). La situación cambia radicalmente cuando se consideran sistemas de la forma {φ n }∞ n=- ∞ en vez de {φ n }∞ n=0 . El objetivo de este artículo es caracterizar marcos de la forma {φ n }( n=- ∞ que son iteraciones del operador multiplicativo T φ. En esta nota probamos que el problema se reduce al siguiente: Problema. Caracterice la clase de funciones ( para las cuales {e inα(.) }∞ n=- ∞ es un marco de L2(a, b). En este artículo damos una respuesta parcial al problema. Hasta donde sabemos, en el caso general el problema sigue abierto, no sólo para marcos, sino también para determinar cuándo la familia {e inα(.) }+∞ n=- ∞ es una base de Schauder y de Riesz e inclusive cuándo es una base ortonormal.
       
  • Ternary arithmetic, factorization, and the class number one problem

    • Abstract: Abstract: Ordinary multiplication of natural numbers can be generalized to a ternary operation by considering discrete volumes of lattice hexagons. With this operation, a natural notion of ‘3-primality’ -primality with respect to ternary multiplication- is defined, and it turns out that there are very few 3-primes. They correspond to imaginary quadratic fields ℚ (), n > 0, with odd discriminant and whose ring of integers admits unique factorization. We also describe how to determine representations of numbers as ternary products and related algorithms for usual primality testing and integer factorization.Resumen: La multiplicación usual de números naturales se puede generalizar a una operación ternaria en consideración de volúmenes discretos de hexágonos de retícula. Con esta operación, se define una noción de ‘3-primalidad’ y resulta que hay muy pocos números que son 3-primos. Éstos corresponden a cuerpos cuadráticos imaginarios ℚ (), n > 0, de discriminante impar cuyos anillos de enteros admiten factorización única. También describimos cómo obtener representaciones de números enteros como productos ternarios y algoritmos relacionados de chequeo de primalidad y factorización ordinaria.
       
  • New linearization method for nonlinear problems in Hilbert space

    • Abstract: Abstract: In this paper, we build a Newton-like sequence to approach the zero of a nonlinear Fréchet differentiable function defined in Hilbert space. This new iterative sequence uses the concept of the adjoint operator, which makes it more manageable in practice compared to the one developed by Kantorovich which requires the calculation of the inverse operator in each iteration. Because the calculation of the adjoint operator is easier compared to the calculation of the inverse operator which requires in practice solving a system of linear equations, our new method makes the calculation of the term of our new sequence easier and more convenient for numerical approximations. We provide an a priori convergence theorem of this sequence, where we use hypotheses equivalent to those constructed by Kantorovich, and we show that our new iterative sequence converges towards the solution.Resumen: En este artículo, construimos una sucesión similar a la de Newton para acercarnos al cero de una función diferenciable en el sentido Fréchet no lineal definida en un espacio de Hilbert. Esta nueva sucesión utiliza el concepto del adjunto del operador, que hace que el proceso iterativo sea más manejable en la práctica en comparación al desarrollado por Kantorovich que requiere el cálculo del operador inverso en cada iteración. Dado que el cálculo del operador adjunto es más fácil en comparación con el cálculo del operador inverso que en la práctica equivale a resolver un sistema de ecuaciones, nuestra nuevo método hace que el cálculo del término de nuestra nueva sucesión sea más fácil y conveniente para la aproximación numérica. Proporcionamos un teorema de convergencia a priori de esta sucesión, donde usamos unas hipótesis equivalentes a las construidas por Kantorovich, y mostramos que nuestra nueva sucesión iterativa converge hacia la solución.
       
  • Stability analysis of a fractional virotherapy model for cancer treatment

    • Abstract: Abstract: This paper presents a stability analysis of a differential equations model related to the cancer treatment with an oncolytic virus in its classical and fractional version via Caputo derivatives. Numerical simulations of three possible scenarios are presented and support the discussions on the advantages of using fractional modeling.Resumen: Este artículo presenta un análisis de estabilidad de un modelo de ecuaciones diferenciales ordinarias para el tratamiento de cáncer usando virus oncológicos siendo consideradas las versiones clásica y fraccionaria. Usando diferentes valores para el orden de la derivada fraccionaria de Caputo, se presentan y discuten tres escenarios para tal tratamiento.
       
  • E-infinity coalgebra structure on chain complexes with integer
           coefficients

    • Abstract: Abstract: The aim of this paper is to construct an E∞-operad inducing an E∞-coalgebra structure on chain complexes with integer coefficients, which is an alternative description to the E∞-coalgebra by the Barrat-Eccles operad.Resumen: El objetivo de este artículo es construir un E∞-operad que induce una estructura de E∞-coalgebra en los complejos de cadenas con coeficientes enteros. Esta construcción produce una descripción alternativa a la E∞-coalgebra del operad de Barrat-Eccles.
       
  • A self-contained guide to Frécon's theorem

    • Abstract: Abstract: A streamlined exposition of Frécon's theorem on non-existence of bad groups of Morley rank 3. Systematising ideas by Poizat and Wagner, we avoid incidence geometries and use group actions instead; the proof becomes short and completely elementary.Resumen: Presentamos una breve demostración depurada del teorema de Frécon sobre la no existencia de grupos malos de rango de Morley 3. Abstrayendo ideas de Poizat y Wagner, evitamos el uso de las geometrías de incidencia. En su lugar usamos acciones de grupos; así la demostración se torna verdaderamente elemental y concisa.
