  • A note on the p-adic Kozyrev wavelets basis

    • Abstract: Abstract We present a basis of p-adic wavelets for Sobolev-type spaces consisting of eigenvectors of certain pseudodifferential operators. Our result extends a well-known result due to S. Kozyrev.Resumen Presentamos una base de wavelets p-ádica para espacios de tipo Sobolev que consiste de vectores propios de ciertos operadores pseudodiferenciales. Nuestro resultado extiende un conocido resultado debido a S. Kozyrev.
       
  • Periodic solutions for a model of tumor volume with anti-angiogenic
           periodic treatment

    • Abstract: Abstract In this work, we consider the dynamics of a model for tumor volume growth under a drug periodic treatment targeting the process of angiogenesis within the vascularized cancer tissue. We give suffcient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of a global attractor consisting of a periodic solution. This conditions happen to be satisfied by values of the parameters tested for realistic experimental data. Numerical simulations are provided illustrating our findings.Resumen En este trabajo, consideramos la dinámica de un modelo para el crecimiento del volumen de un tumor bajo un tratamiento periódico de medicamentos dirigido al proceso de angiogénesis dentro del tejido vascularizado del cáncer. Damos condiciones suficientes para la existencia y la unicidad de una solución periódica la cual es globalmente atractora. Estas condiciones se cumplen con los valores de los parámetros probados en datos experimentales reales. Se proporcionan simulaciones numéricas que ilustran nuestros resultados.
       
  • Boundedness of the Maximal Function of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on
           variable Lebesgue spaces with respect to the Gaussian measure and
           consequences

    • Abstract: Abstract The main result of this paper is the proof of the boundedness of the Maximal Function T* of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup {T t } t≥0 in ℝ d , on Gaussian variable Lebesgue spaces L p(·) (γ d ), under a condition of regularity on p(·) following [5] and [8]. As an immediate consequence of that result, the Lp(·)(γ d )-boundedness of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup {T t } t≥0 in ℝ d is obtained. Another consequence of that result is the Lp(·)(γ d )-boundedness of the Poisson-Hermite semigroup and the Lp(·)(γ d )-boundedness of the Gaussian Bessel potentials of order β > 0.Resumen El principal resultado de este artículo es la prueba de la acotación de la Función Maximal T* del semigrupo de Ornstein-Uhlenbeck {T t } t≥0 en ℝ d sobre espacios de Lebesgue variables respecto de la medida Gaussiana L p(·) (γ d ), asumiendo una condición de regularidad en p(·) siguiendo [5] y [8]. Como consecuencia inmediata de éste resultado se obtiene la acotación- L p(·) (γ d ) del semigrupo de Ornstein-Uhlenbeck {T t } t≥0 en ℝ d . Otras consecuencias del resultado es la acotación L p(·) (γ d ) del semigrupo Poisson-Hermite y la acotación L p(·) (γ d ) de los potenciales de Bessel Gaussianos de orden β > 0.

    • Abstract: Abstract In this paper, we prove the existence of solutions to an elliptic problem containing two lower order terms, the first nonlinear term satisfying the growth conditions and without sign conditions and the second is a continuous function on R.Resumen En este artículo, demostramos la existencia de soluciones a un problema diferencial elíptico que contiene dos términos de bajo orden, donde el primer término no lineal satisface condiciones de crecimiento sin restricciones en el signo y el segundo es una función continua sobre R.
       
  • Modeling the dengue fever transmission in a periodic environment

    • Abstract: Abstract A mathematical model for dengue fever transmission is analyzed, which incorporates relevant biological and ecological factors: vertical transmission and seasonality in the interaction between the vector (Aedes aegypti females) and the host (human). The existence and uniqueness of a positive disease-free periodic solution is proved; the global stability of the disease-free solution and the effect of periodic migrations of mosquitoes carrying the virus on the transmission of dengue are analyzed utilizing the mathematical definition of the Basic Reproductive Number in periodic environments; finally, it is numerically corroborated with the help of the Basic Reproductive Number that dengue cannot invade the disease-free state if it is less than one and can invade if it is greater than one, however, in both threshold conditions when vertical transmission occurs, the number of infected people and carrier vectors rises, representing a mechanism for the persistence of dengue cases in a community throughout a natural year.Resumen Se propone un modelo matemático para la transmisión de la fiebre del dengue que incorpora factores biológicos y ecológicos relevantes: transmisión vertical y estacionalidad en la interacción entre el vector (Aedes aegypti) y el hospedero (humano). Se demuestra la existencia y unicidad de una solución periódica positiva libre de la enfermedad; la estabilidad global de la solución libre de la enfermedad y el efecto de las inmigraciones periódicas de mosquitos portadores del virus en la transmisión del dengue se analizan mediante la definición matemática del Número Reproductivo Básico en ambientes periódicos; finalmente, se corrobora numéricamente con ayuda del Número Reproductivo Básico que el dengue no puede invadir el estado libre de la enfermedad si es menor que uno y puede invadir si es mayor que uno, sin embargo, cuando en ambas condiciones de umbral ocurre transmisión vertical, se eleva el número de personas infectadas y vectores portadores, representando un mecanismo para la persistencia de casos de dengue en una comunidad a lo largo de un año natural.
       
  • A Spectral Gradient Projection Method for the Positive Semi-definite
           Procrustes Problem

    • Abstract: Abstract This paper addresses the positive semi-definite procrustes problem (PSDP). The PSDP corresponds to a least squares problem over the set of symmetric and semi-definite positive matrices. These kinds of problems appear in many applications such as structure analysis, signal processing, among others. A non-monotone spectral projected gradient algorithm is proposed to obtain a numerical solution for the PSDP. The proposed algorithm employs the Zhang and Hager's non-monotone technique in combination with the Barzilai and Borwein's step size to accelerate convergence. Some theoretical results are presented. Finally, numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and eficiency of the proposed method, and comparisons are made with other state-of-the-art algorithms.Resumen En este artículo abordamos el problema de mínimos cuadrados lineales sobre el conjunto de matrices simétricas y definidas positivas (PSDP). Esta clase de problemas surge en un gran número de aplicaciones tales como análisis de estructuras, procesamiento de señales, análisis de componentes principales, entre otras. Para resolver este tipo de problemas, proponemos un método de gradiente proyectado espectral no-monótono. El algoritmo propuesto usa la técnica de globalización no-monótona de Zhang y Hager, en combinación con los tamaños de paso de Barzilai y Borwein para acelerar la convergencia del método. Además, presentamos y comentamos algunos resultados teóricos concernientes al algoritmo desarrollado. Finalmente, llevamos a cabo varios experimentos numéricos con el fin de demostrar la efectividad y la eficiencia del nuevo enfoque, y realizamos comparaciones con algunos métodos existentes en la literatura.
