  • TINJAUAN KONSTRUKSI BANGUNAN RUMAH TINGGI DI KAMPUNG ARAB AL-MUNAWAR
           PALEMBANG

    • Authors: Widi Dwi Satria
      Pages: 206 - 219
Abstract: Indonesia is a country that has traditional houses in almost every province. The architecture of traditional houses in Indonesia is identical to houses that use local materials obtained from the natural surroundings. The durability of the structure and construction of traditional houses is an essential concern, considering the materials used are constantly being consumed by the times. Rumah Tinggi is part of the typical Palembang pyramid house with the use of materials that are dominated by wood. Rumah Tinggi still survives today during the progress of the times. The review of high-rise construction is interesting to study considering the age of the building is more than 250 years, with occupants from the 7th generation. The research is located in the Arabian village of Al-Munawar, Palembang, with the object of Rumah Tinggi. The method used is qualitative with an observation and interview approach. This study aims to identify the existence of traditional houses called high houses against the development of the times. The study results show that using wood materials still dominates the structure and construction of Rumah Tinggi. Rumah Tinggi still survives to this day. Residents of the house still apply building maintenance by replacing damaged wood components and paint to rejuvenate the atmosphere of Rumah Tinggi. Adjustments in high houses do not fade the authenticity and characteristics of Rumah Tinggi.

_ The arrival of the Dutch to Indonesia was one of the factors that influence the diversity of Indonesian building styles. Dutch East Indies architecture entered Indonesia before World War II and was pioneered especially by Thomas Karsten and Henri Mecalien Pont. Thomas Karsten always pays attention to local culture and climate, the principles of contextual architecture. Contextual architecture strives to contribute to its surroundings by aligning the new building, by not forgetting the environment context where the building is built, especially the locality value. This study aims to learn Thomas Karsten's work on contextual design and is expected to be applied in real terms. Qualitative research method is used by doing a literature review to find keywords to be analyzed regarding contextual architecture. The objects analyzed are Thomas Karsten’s work, Sobokartti People's Theater Building, Gede Market Solo, and Jiwasraya Building Semarang. The analyzed aspects are the relationship of the building with the surroundings, the physical aspect, the non-physical aspect, and the contrast/harmonious trait. From the three buildings, there are similarities from the contextual design: (1) the mixture of Dutch and Javanese architecture, (2) local cultural values that are applied, (3) harmonious traits, and (4) building adjustments to local climate. Keywords :  Contextual Architecture; Thomas Karsten.

Abstract: Abstrak_ Nilai keaslian suatu objek wisata menjadi faktor penting yang mempengaruhi tingkat kunjungan wisatawan untuk meningkatkan keterikatan (attachment) wisatawan terhadap tempat wisata. This makes tourists have a special relationship that makes them want to come back. This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the value of authenticity with visitors’ place attachment. The respondents of this research were 65 tourists who had visited the Keraton Kesultanan Yogyakarta and Monumen Jogja Kembali. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire consisting of 5 (five) parts, namely respondent data, basic information about tourism objects, the value of the authenticity of tourism objects, the value of place attachment, and evaluation of tourist satisfaction. The result showed that the Keraton had a higher number of visitors than the Monjali. The reason for the high number of visits to the Keraton as a tourist destination with cultural attraction is because it has a higher authenticity value and affects place attachment to visitors. This value is relevant to the historical context or heritage in Yogyakarta so that it can provide a functional and emotional attachment. • “EMPER TERBUKA” PADA DESAIN RUMAH TOKO KELUARGA HO A HENG
           KARYA FRIEDRICH SILABAN

    • Authors: Dahniar
      Pages: 255 - 265
Abstract: Abstrak_ Pada periode akhir karirnya, Friedrich Silaban merancang Rumah Toko Keluarga Ho A Heng di daerah Suryakencana Bogor yang merupakan satu-satunya proyek huniannya untuk rumah toko tunggal. Kata kunci : Friedrich Silaban; Emper Terbuka; Rumah Toko; Komposisi Tata Ruang; Desain   _ At the end of his career period, Friedrich Silaban designed a shophouse for the family of Ho A Heng at Suryakencana Bogor remarked as his only housing project for a single shophouse. This paper aims to analyze Silaban’s design method for creating the “open veranda” in the shophouse for Ho A Heng and compare it to the Chinese shophouse typology. Using a historical method, the author analyzed the open veranda’s spatial composition and roof design by examining Silaban’s archive documents for this project. Furthermore, the author used a comparative method to collate this shophouse design with Chinese shophouse typology in Southern China and Bogor. Through his design, Silaban integrated a functional non-linear spatial composition and a central courtyard was surrounded by the open veranda beneath wide roof eaves and shading elements. The open veranda and central courtyard become a part of Silaban’s design method to solve the problem of the hot-humid climate in modern shophouse design.
