      Pages: 39 - 49
AbstractAn artificial wetland is a system which involves plants, soil, and microbes in the wastewater treatment. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of artificial wetland to be used for the hospital’s wastewater treatment. It also reviews the role of Canna Indica, Echinodorus palaefolius, and Iris pseudoacorus to serve as biofilters of the hospital’s wastewater. The artificial wetland is made of sand, active carbon, and gravels in lab-scale amount. The data was analysed by using Anova test and BNT test. The analysis involved several types of plants serving as a biofilter treatment, namely Canna Indica, Echinodurus palaefolius, Iris pseudoacorus, and the combination of these three plants. None served as a control plant. The detention times were 3, 6, and 9 days compounded with three-time repetitions. The main parameters were Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and amoniak. Supporing parameters included colour, odor, temperature, and pH. The artificial wetland was considered effective in the hospital’s wastewater treatment. The results also documented that some treatments had a significantly different effect towards the change of wastewater quality. The research indicated that the efficiency of BOD’s and COD’s decline occured at 6 days of detention. The variety of time affected the concetration decline of BOD and COD. The combination of three plants (E. palaefolius, I. pseudoacorus, and C. Indica) was proven effective as a biofilter which reduces pH parameter (11,2%) and colour parameter (27,4%). In addition, The Echinodorus palaefolius plant was reported effective to reduce amoniak parameter (34%). However, the use of plants (biofilter) in the artificial wetland was not effective towards the decline of BOD, COD, and temperature. The results of this research therefore have met the requirement stipulated by the Goverment regulation of KLHK (Ministry of Environment and Forestry) No : P.68/Menlhk/Setjen/Kum.1/8/2016 on the quality standards of the domestic wastewater.

Population Density and Diversity of Yard Fruit Plants in Godean
           Sub-District, Sleman District, Yogyakarta)

    • Authors: Fransisca Kiki Fajarwati, Suwarno Hadisusanto, Hartono Hartono
      Pages: 50 - 59
AbstractFruit plants are very beneficial for human and environment, including their role is protecting green areas in residential areas, but their presence in the yard today is threatened because the increasing conversion of land functions from yard to building for shelter along with the increase in the number of people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution of population density, the relationship between population density and diversity of fruit plants, community adaptation to conserve fruit plants and yard, and to give the recommendation for fruit plants and yard conservation in Godean Sub-District, Sleman District. The methods used are observation and utilizing secondary data with a research period of ten months. The study found that the population density in eastern part of Godean District (approaching the City of Yogyakarta) had higher numbers. The higher population density is, the lower diversity and evenness index, the higher the dominance index, the fewer the number of fruit plants found, and the less green areas in residential areas. Locations with higher population densities are adapted to conserve the fruit plants and yard. These findings support the concept of productive landscapes. Recommendation for fruit plants and yard conservation was compiled by maintaining goverment and citizen efforts that are felt to be effective, repairing or eliminating ones that are less effective and making new recommendation with the hope that it can protect the environment by protecting green areas in residential areas based on problems found in the field.

AbstractEast Jakarta is the largest administrative city in the province of DKI Jakarta. The increasing space of urban development causes the capacity and the carrying capacity of the urban environment to decrease, thus triggering the emergence of social problems, ecosystems of the land, and aquatic environment. The riparian landscape is an important aspect of the urban landscape. The riparian landscape of Cipinang River has ecological, aesthetic, and social functions. Community is the key to create sustainable social life in the community park. To know the needs of people in a community park is important as well as in a park design process, it could be grasped through the study of people preferences. Therefore, it is important too to study the community park design based on user preference to create a community park that is functional, aesthetic, ecological, and sustainable. The design process will be carried out through several stages, namely: stage of data collection, analysis and synthesis phase, concepts, and  design. The concept is “Olah Raga dan Olah Jiwa” which Water Spinach’s form as a design concept. It was chosen in addition to preserving and maintaining the riparian landscape environment, also to provide sports spaces, recreation areas. After the design process is carried out, there will be three models of design choices and one of them will be a siteplan that is used as a reference image in the process of making work drawings. A siteplan will be equipped with section plan, perspective, design details, and planting plan.
