  • Tourism and economic development: the impact of the pandemic

    • Authors: Arcadio A. Cerda
Abstract: The pandemic, in addition to deaths, suffering and pain
in people, has undoubtedly generated a significant impact
in reducing the flow of people to places of recreation
and tourism with the consequent impact on economic
and social development both at the local level.
and global, where many local economies had to reinvent
themselves to survive, especially in those places where
state aid arrived late or simply did not arrive.
The appearance of vaccines, despite their possible side
effects, some of which are still to be elucidated, allowed
society to resume its traditional activities in the tourism
sector, opening up the possibility of recovering some
economic capacity, at least for those who were able to
continue operating. . Since people have been restricted
Tourism and economic development: the impact
      of the pandemic
for a long time, the demand for tourist and recreational activities has increased significantly, a situation that operators have been taking advantage of. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in prices in this sector higher than other sectors of the economy, some of these price  increases are derived from local situations, but also from the world economic situation where there are expectations of recession with high inflation. From the point of research, the situation described in the preceding paragraphs opens the opportunity to carry out studies aimed at measuring the impact of what is happening as well as proposing new development measures in the sector. Some of these aspects are treated in this issue of the Journal.

  • Destination image: validation of a measurement scale

    • Authors: Laura Marlhene Hernández García, Alejandro Delgado Cruz, Yanelli Daniela Palmas Castrejón
Abstract: Image is a factor that directly influences the decision tovisit a destination. Nowadays, more and more destinations are emerging that have different characteristics, from the consolidated and massive sun and beach destinations. The objective is to validate an unconventional destination image measurement scale in the Mexican context. With the support of the scientific literature review, an instrument was designed and applied to 405 visitors from three destinations: Sultepec, Almoloya de Alquisiras and Texcaltitlán, municipalities belonging to the State of Mexico, Mexico. For data processing, the measurement and structural model was evaluated with the support of different tests of internal consistency, validity and structural equation modelling. The results show that the destination image is integrated by affective, cognitive and global components. In conclusion, the instrument in question showed highly satisfactory values to be considered reliable and valid.

  • The secrets of the “Forest”: Tourist images of Puerto Patriada
           (Argentine Patagonia)

    • Authors: Carolina Flavia Crespo
Abstract: This article proposes debates –from an anthropological approach which combines fieldwork with the study of documents from state archives and other sources– about how images and secrecy practices interplay in the pleasure economy and attractiveness disseminated by the tourism device in Puerto Patriada, Chubut province –Argentine Patagonia. It examines the way in wich, through gaze framing and secrecy formulas consttructed and disseminated by tourist policies in Puerto Patriada, the contradictions of the capitalist system are recodified, new and old ways of understanding the term “natural” not only as a material fact but also a moral one are expressed, and pedagogies of ordering and intervention in the space, resources, and subjects are shaped according to this new model of development. Also, it will reflect upon how these “gazes” and their vanishing points were configured and redefined. Keywords: tourism, nature, secrecy practices, counter images, Argentine Patagonia. Received: 2021-09-21 Accepted for publication: 2022-05-23 Published: 2022-06-30

  • The ecotourism system: a local approach. Practical case of Cuando Cubango
           provincy, Angola

    • Authors: José Eduardo Ezaquias
Abstract: The objective of this article was to design a spatial circular system with a local approach to the management of ecotourism that contributes to the systematization and establishment of ecotourism networks, as a proposal to minimize theoretical-methodological and material deficiencies of existing systems in the desire to link and concretize the participation of the local community. It is a quali-quantitative and transversal research, where the
different categories of the scientific method were used, such as: systemic-structural, analytical-synthetic and induction and deduction from an endogenous approach. The design of the proposal of the Circular Model of Ecotourism and the partial application on the Island of Leapeka, in Cuando Cubango, Angola, allowed the emergence of a new theoretical-methodological instrument, also spatial, for the management of ecotourism, which ecotourism policy makers, travel agencies, tour operators and local communities can strengthen and appropriate for the management of ecotourism activity with indicators for the local community. • Ecotourism in Peru: Laguna de los Patos as a case study

    • Authors: Renzo Antonio Seminario-Córdova, Israel Barrutia Barreto, Zenayda Emilia Estrada Tuesta
Abstract: Aviturismo or birdwatching tourism is part of an emerging subsector in the nature tourism industry. Although bird watching is established in Peru, it has been concentrated to a greater extent in conservation areas. However, the Piura region is also home to a great diversity of birds in areas that have not been declared protected, such as the “Laguna de los Patos” wetland located in the district of Querecotillo. The objective of this study is to investigate the potential of birdwatching that can occur in the "Laguna de los Patos" wetland, together with an update of the species. A non-experimental research work was carried out with field collection and bibliographic information. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that the wetland has a fairly high potential to develop bird tourism and contribute to the conservation of the area and the species, also benefiting the economy of the surrounding local populations. However, tourism is not only about offering the natural wonders of each country, rather it directly influences the economic factor of a region, this product of the participation of businesses that intervene to offer their products to tourists, helping in one way or another to the economy of a specific sector, so if a good management of tourism promotion is done, the local economy will benefit successfully. Based on this idea, countries have developed programs to promote their culture and tradition to the rest of the world. Ecuador has great attractions, the province of Pastaza is not left behind, which being located in the eastern region, has great natural attractions, also encouraging the local economy through tourism.
