  • Cuban Migration or Exile in the United States' Notes for Discussion

Abstract: In specialized academic literature, the issue of Cuban migration and exile that is formed in the United States has been dealt with repeatedly, after the triumph of the Revolution on the Island, in 1959. Sometimes, both phenomena are discussed interchangeably, as if it were the same, and it is assumed to exile today in terms similar to those defined in its initial stage. The article analyzes the migratory process whose result leads to the emergence of said exile, takes into consideration the different factors and conditions that influence that process and explain its evolution to the present. A distinction is made between migration (as demographic displacement or transfer of people and communities established in the United States), and exile (as an essentially political phenomenon). As a premise, it is considered that the Cuban migration dynamics conducive to the emergence of the so-called historical exile cannot be separated from its real development over time, nor in its analytical.

  • Borges in the Shadow of Lovecraft: “There are More Things”

    • Abstract: Resumen: el objetivo de este ensayo es ubicar el cuento “There are More Things” de Borges como un pastiche que incluye la técnica para escribir horror sobrenatural de Lovecraft. Abstract: The objective of this paper is to place Borges’ short story “There are More Things” as a pastiche that includes Lovecraft’s technique to write supernatural horror. Its originality resides in identifying the sources of Lovecraft’s work that could have been read by Borges and in pointing out specific and general references in “There are More Things” to Lovecraft’s short stories. The method uses Lovecraft’s supernatural horror theory. The conclusions state how Borges included in TMT the eight characteristics considered by Lovecraft as essential in writing a weird tale.

  • Cultural Markers, Sacred Spaces and Missionary Identiary Representations
           in Silver

Abstract: The border cities of São Borja-Brasil and Santo Tomé-Argentina began their territorial formation from the implementation of the Jesuit-Guarani Reductions (17th century). This period took root in ways of life, knowledge, beliefs and architectural markers in the region. To this end, the study aimed to carry out an identity reflection in a historical region of Prata, questioning how social representations and missionary cultural markers end up reproducing regional identity narratives. As partial results, it is argued that the regional missionary identity, no matter how much it has suffered from stagnant alterities, still maintains traditional practices experienced, based on rituals, sacred and mythical beliefs, and through the discursive and symbolic affirmation of missionary musicality.

  • Coloniality of Power and Global History: Open Questions(A Tribute to
           Aníbal Quijano)

    • Abstract: Resumen: Este artículo presenta dos argumentos. Abstract: This paper presents two arguments. The first suggests that Aníbal Quijano maybe considered the last great Latin American theorist of the 20th century. This is argued from the point of view that looks at his theory of the “coloniality of power” as the most original synthesis to date of the different schools and problems of the Latin American critical thought. On the other hand, the second argument poses a set of open questions regarding the historical-conceptual architecture of “coloniality” conceived as a “new model of power of global vocation”. This is argued in the light of fresh interpretations advanced in various works of global history and macro-historical sociology about European world expansion. This part also casts some doubts of its validity in the light of the current trends in the global political economy of capitalism. My aim is to reopen the discussion about the depth and scope of “coloniality” and its “root crisis” in a theoretical perspective that is not Eurocentric, but at the same time is genuinely historical and global.
