  • The role of technology as driving force of the social change

      Abstract: The progressive and constant deployment of new technologies has remarkably impacted on the society, even inadvertently. It constitutes, without any doubt, a timely agent and force for any social change, as we can evidence analyzing its incidence in diverse aspects such as companies and industries, or the productive sector generally speaking, the communication channels and mass media, the social relationships, and markedly on the citizenship quality of life. To adequately framework the last impact of this technological development, it is convenient to not forget its imbrication within the globalization phenomena, aligned with the milestones of the emerging technologies, and with the parallel growth of the information society. This would allow its analysis not only looking at the tangible results for the society, but also underlining those undesired consequences for the contemporaty societies. We hope to achieve with this approach a correct perspective for the subject of our research.

      Abstract: The relationship between International Organizations and States is usually analyzed as a rational social phenomenon; however, this article proposes that the interaction between the two is a network that must be studied from the association of the subjects. Also, it is considered that the dynamics of international society cannot be explained only from the interaction between States and International Organizations, but that Information Technologies have transformed the network to the point of becoming a new agent that contributes to the transformation of the chain of translations of the international society, as proposed by the postulates of the Agent-Network Theory.

  • Attitudes, skills and expectations of teachers about the virtualisation of
           education during Covid-19

      Abstract: This article presents the results of research on Mediatized Educational Practices implemented at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the National University of Entre Ríos (Argentina) during the period 2020-2021.   • Technological and organizational solutions for adapting e-Administration
           to the elderly

      Abstract: The digitization process of public services has led to an important change in the relationship between citizens and public administrations. The elderly, affected by the digital divide and ageism, lack skills in the use or management of TIC, which causes them to find themselves in a situation of vulnerability and digital (and social) exclusion. This work studies the reasons for this digital exclusion for this age group, proposing organizational and technological solutions. For this, a mixed methodological model (quantitative-qualitative) based on the Delphi technique, documentary analysis and descriptive statistical analysis has been used. The results point to a set of actions aimed at solving the problems generated by the misuse of these technologies in their application to digitized public services, incorporating a better adaptation to the reality of older people.

  • Intermediate forms and technological change: Exploring the links between
           technology and topology

      Abstract: The study of technology and technological change is a dynamic field where diverse disciplines from the social sciences and the humanities converge.  It is possible to find several ontologies that incorporate topological referents as heuristic metaphors and simple methodological devices in technological studies.  The paper examines two related topological concepts, continuity and convergence, based on the notions of accumulation of knowledge and a combination of pre-existing technologies to arrive at the notions of convergence and inflation.  The paper concludes with some future research guidelines that formally explore the potential of topology in technology and technological change studies.

      Abstract: Interest in the ethnographic study of virtual spaces has grown in recent years. Today, a wide variety of social phenomena occur in multimodal spaces, that is, distributed through both physical and virtual environments. Online and offline spaces are part of one everyday experience. However, how are both dimensions integrated in a coherent arrangement' In this article, I argue that online and offline spaces co-produce an integrated way of dwelling in the world. I show this by describing on online meteorology class, where students and a teacher connect representations of the atmosphere with the local weather of local spaces. In the conclusion, I discuss how co-production and virtual ethnography can be complementary perspectives.

  • Effect of the representation of information on the statistical literacy
           level of high school students in fake news

      Abstract: Currently, the impact of fake news has increased exponentially due, in part, to the ease with which it can be disseminated through social networks. This makes young people, the majority users of social networks, the group most exposed to this type of news, which usually includes numerical information represented in different ways. The aim of this work is to study the effect of the representation (frequency, graph, percentage or probability) in which certain biased information is presented on the level of statistical literacy of Baccalaureate students. The results show a low level of statistical literacy of the students regardless of the form in which the information is given, with a slight improvement in the case in which the information is presented in the form of frequency.

  • Plato: What did you do'

      Abstract: This article is a reading of the Platonic dialogue Euthyphro from the categories of gesture and communication technology. These categories will allow to reveal Plato's intention, as the author of the dialogue, to denounce Euthyphro and all the mentality that this character represents. It will also be shawn how the effectiveness of the gesture that Plato wants to carry out in the dialogue rests on the command of linear and abstract thought demonstrated by Socrates throughout the dialogue. This domain, however, is not based simply on better cognitive abilities of Socrates, but it is a true and proper technological superiority since the alphabet allows the development of these skills. The dialogue then comes to represent not only the clash of a surpassed and inauthentic religious mentality with a rational and authentic one, but also the clash of a thought linked to orality with one that is born from alphabetic technology.

  • Challenges and opportunities of maker culture for the digitalization of
           Spanish society

      Abstract: The popularization of the "maker culture" has facilitated the emergence of various spaces worldwide that facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and skills associated with emerging technologies. This article analyzes them with special emphasis on the Spanish territory. Focusing on two institutionalization examples of this type of spaces (Ikaslab Sarea and Xarxa d'Ateneus de Fabricació), we explore the opportunities and challenges they present for citizen empowerment. We argue that the institutionalization of these spaces should move away from technocentric approaches and bet on a model based on the development of skills, values and experiences that contribute to a responsible digitization.

  • The role of women in STEM disciplines. A multimodal analysis of
           crowdfunding project videos for the iGEM science competition.

      Abstract: The gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a matter of growing social concern: although the female presence in these disciplines has grown during the last decades, men still outnumber women (Corbett & Hill, 2015). It has been shown that this is partly because of the lack of visibility that the work of women scientists has had along history, which has led to unconscious beliefs and stereotypes about gender and professional careers, and therefore, the disinterest in science on the female side (Nimmesgern, 2016). Previous research has shown that these stereotypes are reinforced through television programs depicting fictional women characters in STEM scenarios (Steinke, 2017; Davis & Coleman, 2018), and the present study aims to explore the representation of real female and male scientists on the Internet. By applying a multimodal analysis from a social semiotic perspective, I examine how gender identities are represented in eight crowdfunding project videos of science created by undergraduate students for an international science competition, the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM). Relying on the Swalesian move-step analysis genre approach for the verbal content (Swales, 1990, 2004), and Kress and van Leeuwen’s Visual Grammar (VG) model for the visual content (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006), the analysis intends to uncover ideological purposes and meanings about gender roles within a context of scientific research. The results are compatible with previous studies that confirm that women are underrepresented in STEM, highlighting the ideologies that lead to the reinforcement of gender bias at the scientific workplace.

      Abstract: This article assumes the epistemological problem in the study of social and humanistic sciences, its different approaches to the nature of knowledge, its formation and risks or limitations are denoted. Likewise, the critical aspects of truth, knowledge and science are addressed from the approaches of F. Nietzsche, G. Vattimo and M. Foucault. These question positivist reductionisms and draw attention to the difficulties of neutrality in science due to the external influences of power relations and various existing interests. However, we believe it is important to develop a comprehensive and interdisciplinary vision of science to prevent reductionisms and achieve a broader and more humanistic knowledge.

      Abstract: Spanish society are totally immersed in a digital era where the new information and communication technologies and social networks are of great importance in people's daily lives. This has led to a digitization of all existing social, ethical and cultural patterns in offline reality. Gender violence has not escaped this digitization process, using Social Networks as the main tool to be able to execute it in cyberspace. That is why the objectives of this study are to examine what cyber violence, carried out by their partners or ex-partners, women suffer more on Instagram; identify their reaction to this situation; and recognize what negative feelings and emotions they experience.

  • Covid-19 Pandemic: Project-Based Learning as Interprofessional Learning
           Model to Improve Student With The Special Needs’ Self Efficacy

      Abstract: There is a particular emphasis on education for special needs children. They have a right to an education that is appropriate to their needs. This study aimed to improve the self-efficacy of students with special needs who studied in inclusive elementary schools by using project-based learning. The research method used explorative qualitative with the interview, observation, and documentation instruments through triangulation. All instruments were analyzed in-depth, descriptive narrative. This research was carried out in the inclusive elementary schools, among others were five Public Elementary Schools (PES). The findings show that the learning approach of project-based learning at inclusive elementary schools in the covid-19 pandemic effectively improved the students with special need to be active, participatory and feel motivated to solve learning problems experienced by learning products produced.

  • Coronavirus Pandemic and Construction of False Narratives:

      Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to understand as how Coronavirus as a pandemic is mis-utilized in construction of a false narrative, which has encouraged religious hatred and subsequent discrimination, as well as hate crimes against minority community in India. More specifically the paper looks into the role of various social media platforms as well as news agencies (in spreading half baked information, false information and misinformation) to unfold  the root cause behind demonizing a particular community. Design/methodology/approach – The design is exploratory in nature and the data collected are from secondary sources. The approach is to understand the impact from a new point of view. Findings– The findings of the study reveal that the false creation of a narrative has led Muslims to face severe hardships’ thereby destroying the true meaning of secularism. The study reveals that Muslims as a community were already discriminated and the pandemic has added voluminously to their woes. Originality/value –  This paper tries to give a new perspective of the impact of the pandemic. Most of the research papers have tried to understand the impact of pandemic on the social aspects, however no research paper has tried to understand the social hatred due to COVID-19
