Authors:Engin ÇELEBİ Abstract: This study aims to reveal the social perception created by gender roles in the media and to compare the results with traditional attitudes towards gender roles, including the cultural issues in Turkey. Within the scope of the research, focus group interviews were conducted with 32 people selected from different socioeconomic levels in 4 different groups. According to the research findings, it was concluded that the media (especially in TV series, movies and advertisements) plays a negative role in ensuring gender equality. Gender roles represented in the media are based on individual characteristics, traditional and social values formed in society. Participants, regardless of their education and social classes, stated that the division of business and professional roles in media broadcasts are determined by gender. They also claimed that although the media has negative effects in the current situation, it can significantly contribute to raise awareness about gender roles. PubDate: Sat, 02 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +030
