  • A STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODELING WITH WELFARE INDICATORS: EXAMINING THE
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, ACCESS TO SERVICES AND MATERIAL
           DEPRIVATION

    • Authors: Cansu Bahçeci; Öznur Özdamar, Şenay Üçdoğruk, Eleftherıos Gıovanıs
Abstract: This study aims at presenting comprehensive model using welfare indicators such as socioeconomic status, access to services and material deprivation, and examining the relationships between these variables. In the analysis, we use the pooled cross-sectional data set of the Household Budget Survey of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) covering the period 2015-2019. Since the simultaneous relationship between welfare indicators such as socioeconomic status, material deprivation and access to services is examined using latent variables, Structural Equation Modeling is preferred. The study finds that socioeconomic status, composed of education and income, increases households' access to services and decreases their material deprivation. In addition, as households' access to services increases, their material deprivation decreases. Our study also finds that women's socioeconomic status is lower than men's in Turkiye during the period analysed. Moreover men in households have more limited access to services and face more material deprivation than women. The increase in household size makes access to services more difficult, worsens the socioeconomic situation and increases deprivation. Considering the health status variable, it is concluded that healthy individuals have higher socioeconomic status and suffer from less deprivation.

  • COUNTERTRANSFERENCE EXPERIENCES OF THERAPISTS WORKING WITH ADULTS

    • Authors: Metin Erdem
Abstract: The definition of countertransference is widely used in the literature, which is also reflected in practice, leading to uncertainty regarding its use. This ambiguity can be understood when examining the historical process of the concept. The historical process of this concept, which started with Freud, has primarily been handled negatively. Therefore, according to Freud, countertransference was considered a situation to be dealt with. Over time, the negative perception of the concept evolved into a more positive one, emphasising its healing potential. While initially considered a challenge in therapy, today, countertransference is seen in a more positive light. This study aims to examine how therapists working with adults in Turkey perceive and utilise in practice. In this context, 16 therapists actively receiving adult clients were interviewed, resulting in the identification of five main themes: "definition of countertransference", "triggers of countertransference", "reflections of countertransference in therapy", " the category", and "therapists' suggestions". As a result of these data, it was found that therapists use countertransference in a wide range. However, it was concluded that most participants used the contemporary approach when defining countertransference and prioritised the classical approach in practice.

  • ASSESSMENT OF INTRA-PARTY DEMOCRATİC ELECTİONS; THE 1949 CONGRESS OF THE
REPUBLİCAN PEOPLE'S PARTY MUŞ PROVİNCİAL ADMİNİSTRATİVE BOARD

    • Authors: Mustafa Şehitoğlu
Abstract: Single-party years in Turkey were a period during which the central committee of the CHP closely monitored both society and local organizations through reports from Ankara. The provincial congresses held during this period, as well as the selection of provincial and district representatives, were reflected in the reports to which the CHP Headquarters attached great importance. Due to the upcoming multi-party general elections, the CHP placed emphasis on internal party elections, and this was reflected in the 1949 provincial congresses. Throughout the country, the CHP emphasized conducting party congresses in all provinces in accordance with the regulations. The meetings of the Muş Provincial Administrative Board became congresses where internal party elections conflicted with the decisions of the regional inspectors, according to the regulations. This paper presents information about the Muş provincial congress based on the 1949 report prepared by Cemal Karamuğla, who serves as the Inspector of the CHP Muş Region. The attitudes and reports of the inspectors regarding the 1949 Muş Provincial Administrative Board elections resulted in a conflict between the free participation of the people in the elections and the intervention in them.In this study, the meeting of the CHP Muş Provincial Administrative Board and the Varto District Administrative Board, held on November 22, 1949, will be examined within the framework of the regulations recorded in the meeting minutes to analyze the free elections of the people.

  • PREDICTION OF STOCK MARKET INDEX DIRECTION WITH TREE-BASED ENSEMBLE
MACHINE LEARNING METHODS: THE CASE OF BIST-100

    • Authors: Yasin Büyükkör; Seyyide Doğan
Abstract: The establishment of an effective prediction model for the direction of stock market indices is quite challenging due to the complex and non-stationary nature of financial data. Predicting the upward or downward movements of the stock market index, especially in emerging market exchanges where the impacts of external factors and shocks are observed more deeply, is of significant importance to stakeholders such as investors, governments, financial institutions, and creditors, as well as researchers. The aim of this study is to predict the direction of the stock market index with tree-based ensemble Machine Learning (ML) methods. Technical Indicators calculated after applying Exponential Smoothing to daily Opening, Closing, Highest, Lowest and Volume data of three years were considered as input variables of the model. In addition, the input variable space was expanded by increasing the window lengths of the Technical Indicators. In the study, Random Forest, XGBoost and CatBoost methods, which based on Decision Trees, are used as ensemble ML methods. Bayesian Search was employed to determine the optimal parameters. According to the findings of the study, all selected methods demonstrated accuracy rates ranging from 89.7% to 90.4%, and considering other performance evaluation criterias, XGBoost was identified as the best prediction method.

  • DELEUZE AND INFINITE REPRESENTATION: CONTRADICTION VERSUS SUFFICIENT
           REASON

    • Authors: Erdem Baykal
Abstract: The relationship between Deleuze and Hegel and Deleuze’s obvious anti-Hegelianism manifests itself mainly in the Difference-in-Itself section of Difference and Repetition. The issue in this first part of Difference and Repetition consists of the critique of traditional metaphysics as a system of representation. Traditional metaphysics tries to represent existing things, instead of problemtising their genesis. It presents them by making them organized and suitable for the human eye. Traditional philosophy does this by subordinating difference to identity. Ultimately, for philosophy, difference is merely a means to guarantee the structure of the representational system based on identity and on harmony. However, Deleuze’s philosophy is a system of thought about the origin of the existence of things. Here, difference becomes the constitutive element. At this point, our aim will be to reveal the general structure of various representational systems. Our first subject will be Aristotle’s Organic Representational system, in which the limit of beings is well determined. After this system, we will move on to the infinite representational system, where the purpose of the limit is not the restriction but to enable the finite to pass beyond itself. According to Deleuze, the Philosophical systems that are similar to the latter are exemplified by Hegel and Leibniz. Essentially, in this section, Deleuze shows himself to be on the side of Leibniz and criticizes Hegelian dialectics. This criticism here shows that individual and unconscious creation is the basic question at the core of Deleuze’s system, which is based on the problem of origin. Deleuze’s aim is to build a system of philosophy based on Leibnizian philosophy, purified from old metaphysics defects and a reinterpretation of Kantian experience.

  • THE RELATIONSHIP OF COASTAL LENGTH WITH OTHER SEA POWER ELEMENTS: AN
ANALYSIS OF NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION (NATO) COUNTRIES

    • Authors: Altuğ Yenginar
Abstract: In this study, it was investigated whether there is a relationship between coastal length, which is an element of sea power, and the number of warships, the number of commercial ships, the number of ports, aquaculture export revenues and shipbuilding sector export revenues. Within this framework, data for the specified sea power elements of 26 NATO countries with sea coasts were collected and analyzed with Spearman correlation. In the analysis carried out, positive and significant relationships were detected in various correlation scores between coastal length and other sea power elements. As a result of the study, it has been revealed that geographical sea power elements and military and economic sea power elements are interrelated and that these elements must be developed as a whole for the development of total sea power capacity.

  • A COMMENTARY ON SHEIKH GALIB'S GHAZAL WITH “EYLER
           SEM” RHYMED

    • Authors: Abdulsamet Demirbağ
Abstract: Sheikh Gâlib, one of the distinguished personalities of the eighteenth century, is one of the Mevlevi poets who left his mark on the field of classical Turkish poetry. When the poet's poems are examined, it is seen that his poems contain deep meanings with his unique style, symbols and dreams he used. In addition to these features in his poems, the effects of the poet's being a Mevlevi sheikh were also embodied in his poems. The poet's ghazal with eyler semâ rhymed, which is the subject of the study, also contains these features. Therefore, some characteristics and mystical images of Mevlevism appear to be an aesthetic element in this ghazal, as in his other poems. In the introduction part of the study, the life of the poet, Mevlevi, dhikr and sema are mentioned. Afterwards, the commentary on the ghazal, which consisted of seven couplets, was started. In this poem, whose annotation is made, the idea that every object in the world of existence is in a state of attraction under the influence of divine love in general terms has been processed, and this state has been given by associating it with the sema, which is the Mevlevi dhikr. It has been tried to contribute both to the poet's literary aspect and the field of commentary by making the commentary of this ghazal, which has rich connotations.

  • A QUALITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF REFUSAL OF DRUG USE IN SUBSTANCE ADDICTION
           TREATMENT

    • Authors: Merie Meryem Keskin; Musa Gürel, İlker Aktürk, Ömer Miraç Yaman
Abstract: This study aims to examine the factors influencing substance-dependent individuals undergoing medication treatment in their decision to reject such treatment. These factors include non-medical treatment methods, functionality, personal beliefs, perceptions, and alternative treatment options. The research focuses on identifying how these elements affect the decision of substance dependents to refuse medical treatment. In this study, which was conducted with substance dependents, qualitative research methods were used, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 13 participants using a semi-structured form. Based on the data obtained from these interviews, four main themes emerged: Factors Influencing Medication Rejection, Process and Functionality of Non-Medical Treatment, Beliefs and Perceptions about Medication Treatment, and Trying and Effectiveness of Alternative Treatments to Medication. The reasons for participants' rejection of medication treatment include negative attitudes towards the pharmaceutical industry, side effects of medications, and the role of medication in the treatment of substance dependence. Furthermore, the increased effectiveness of non-medical treatment methods played a significant role in enhancing participants' motivation towards these alternatives. Negative beliefs and perceptions about medication treatment have led to an adverse judgment against it, becoming a significant factor in participants' pursuit of non-medical treatments. Trying alternative non-medical treatments and their impact significantly reduced the sustainability of medication treatment. The limitations in the literature regarding the rejection of medical treatment in substance dependency treatment highlight a significant gap in the development and improvement of treatment methods. In this context, the research holds great importance for developing effective methods and improving existing treatments in substance dependency therapy.

  • THE RELIGIOUS VALUE OF THE DICLE TUNNEL-BIRKLEYN CAVES ON THE ROUTE OF THE
           ASSYRIAN EXPEDITION

    • Authors: Abdulsabur Şığva
Abstract: During the Middle and Neo-Assyrian periods; the Assyrian Kingdom organised military expeditions for commercial/economic purposes to distant regions by using different routes in Asia Minor. These military expeditions contributed to the consolidation of the military and political power of the Assyrian State and created new opportunities for future expeditions. Although the factors determining the selection of Assyrian military expedition routes varied, factors such as the sovereignty areas of the powers that threatened the kingdom, the passes with favourable geographical conditions, and the presence of suitable environments to meet the shelter and nutrition needs of the army were influential in determining the routes. One of the most important passes that brought the Assyrian Kingdom to Eastern Anatolia through the Taurus Mountains passes through the region where the Tigris Tunnel-Birkleyn Caves are located. This study aims to examine the Tigris Tunnel-Birkleyn Caves, located on the present-day Bingöl/Genç-Diyarbakır highway, in terms of the Assyrian belief system. Taking the Assyrian chronicles as the main reference, this study investigates the religious foundations of the reliefs and inscriptions carved on the stone walls around the Dibni Stream/Bırkleyn Cave which is one of the sources of the Tigris River. Additionally, by analysing the reliefs and inscriptions, the belief system of the Assyrian kings regarding the sanctity of water was examined. It is concluded from the field research and textual analyses that the Assyrian kings considered visiting the source of the Tigris River, which had a vital importance for them, as a religious ritual.

One of the subject matters that stands out is the novel’s criticism of grand narratives through its main heroine, Jeanette. The question of grand narratives, touched upon and re-evaluated by postmodernism, has a substantial place in the narration of the novel. The ideologies, determined and limited by society as grand narratives, reject pluralism and differences. They defend a single ideology and undermine differences. The grand narratives examined under the subject of religion in this article determine social norms and lead them. Winterson’s Jeanette is a character who tries to assume a different identity in a society where grand narratives are unshakably implemented and close the door to different ideologies. This article examines Jeanette’s experiences and rebellion in a society surrounded by grand narratives. The study aims to show how the church and church society adhere to grand narratives and how the main character overturns established ideologies.

  • INDIA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF BIRUNI AND V.S. NAIPAUL

    • Authors: Ahmet Kayıntu
Abstract: This study is based on a comparison of two works on India, one by Biruni, who lived and wrote about India nearly a thousand years ago, and one by V.S. Naipaul, who lived in the twenty-first century. The first work, Kitâb’ut-Tahkîk ma li’l-Hind, written by Biruni, was written in Arabic in the first quarter of the eleventh century to help Muslims living among Hindus in different regions such as Sindh, Punjab, Kabul and Ghazni. The work was edited by Edward Sachau in the early 1880s and translated into German (1883-1884) and English (1887-1888) under the title Al-Beruni’s India; both the Arabic edition and the translations were published in the West in those years. An Arabic edition of the book, based on the copy in the Paris National Library, was published in Hyderabad in 1958 with the help of the Indian Ministry of Education. On September 30, 1932, Kıvameddin Burslan translated the work into Turkish, but due to various reasons, it was published only in 2015. Nobel Prize-winning author V.S. Naipaul, on the other hand, has written three travel books on India and in these works, which are based on his travels to the country in 1964, 1977 and 1990, he refers to India as a dark, wounded and rebellious civilization respectively. With the publication of his books, Naipaul, himself of Hindu descent, was severely criticized for his views on India, Indians and non-Western societies and cultures, which went far beyond criticism, and caused intense debates. The most obvious conclusion that emerges from the comparative analysis of the works of both authors is that Biruni, despite being a Muslim, is extremely tolerant and objective in his approach to India, Hindu culture, traditions, and belief system, while Naipaul's approach, on the contrary, is far from tolerance and extremely biased.

  • THE EFFECT OF I‘TIZALI THOUGHT ON THE LINGUISTIC INTERPRETATION OF
           THE VERSES OF QUR’AN

    • Authors: Eyüp Sevinç
Abstract: Mu‘tazila has an important place in the history of Islamic thought. At the same time, it is a theological school that tries to justify the theological principles related to Islam with rational principles. Encountering people from different religions and cultures after the conquests and the increase in scientific and cultural developments due to these conquests were also an important factor in the emergence of the Mu‘tazila. With the emergence of the Mu‘tazila school in the field of creed, it began to form its own principles of belief. In this context, they adopted the principles of “tawhid, adl, va'd and vaîd, al-manzila bayn al-manzilatayn and al-‘amr bi al-ma‘rûf nahy ‘an al-munkar”, which they refer to as “al-usul al-khamsa”. They tried to express all their thoughts and issues in the field of belief within the framework of these principles. They tried to express all their thoughts and issues in the field of theology within the framework of these principles. In addition, they have made an effort not to put forth an opinion contrary to the texts of the Qur‘an on theological issues. However, they saw that they sometimes contradicted their own principles and the verses of the Qur‘an. Therefore, they tried to benefit from the possibilities of the Arabic language in order to interpret the aforementioned verses in accordance with their own creed. Parallel to this, mu‘tazilite nahw scholars interpreted the apparent meanings of the verses, which they deem contrary to their ı‘tizalî thoughts, in accordance with their own creed by taking advantage of the language’s possibilities. In this study, we tried to deal with the issues of how Mutazilite Nahw scholars used the Arabic language to interpret the verses of the Qur’an according to their own creed principles.

  • EVALUATIONS ON THE FOLK POET FROM BITLIS DEMIRCI NAIM AND HIS POEMS

    • Authors: Canser Kardaş
Abstract: Bitlis, which hosted various civilizations in different periods of history, has been a place where written culture prevailed at a certain level. The city has maintained its importance for centuries and hosted different civilizations. From this perspective, many poets, historians, politician and literary figures were raised in Bitlis. Mahmut Naim Şerefhanoğlu, a member of the Şerefhanoğulları family, one of the important families of the city, was born in Bitlis in 1913. The folk poet, known under the pseudonym Demirci Naim, is among the city's important poets of the 20th century. Some of the poems of the poet, who died in his hometown Bitlis on April 15, 1971, were published by his son Servet Şerefhanoğlu under the title "Sparks from the Poet Demirci Naim". In this study, the poet's life and literary personality are analyzed in terms of both form and content with examples from his poems. The poet wrote poems in both aruz and syllabic meter. However, in our study, only the poems he wrote in syllabic meter were taken into consideration and various evaluations were made. When the characteristics of Demirci Naim were examined in terms of minstrelsy traditions, it was concluded that he should be accepted as a folk poet.

  • A QUR’AN FORTUNE REGISTERED IN THE KHALIDI LIBRARY: TERCEME-I
           TEFEULNAME

    • Authors: Emrah Gündüz
Abstract: Since before, fortune telling has been one of the efforts of human beings to find meaning in the face of the uncertainty of time and the world. In our culture, many types of fortune telling were used, and Qur’an fortunes were preferred in line with religious sensitivity, especially after Islam in the Ottoman Empire. This fortune telling, which is applied as the interpretation of the letters and verses of the Qur’an with the bibliomancy method, is also called Tefeulname. Tefeul (Bibliomancy), which is an Arabic word, means to interpret favourably. Many artefacts have been given in our history of this type of literature. One of them is the work called Terceme-i Tefeulname, which is covered in this article. The work written in Ottoman Turkish and determined in The Khalidi Library in Jerusalem is dated 1793-1794. It is noteworthy that the fortune-telling culture, which is not applied especially from an Islamic point of view and whose credibility is incorrect, is texted by including the Qur’an in the form of bibliomancy. On the other hand, the curiosity of Muslim societies and the enthusiasm to know the future have enabled different meanings to be given to bibliomancy and increased the interest in these fortune texts. Based on this, in this article, the meaning world of the Qur’an fortunes, which were texted in Ottoman society, was tried to be interpreted, and the translated written text of the aforementioned work was presented.

  • SOME CARPET SAMPLES REGISTERED IN THE INVENTORY OF THE KARS MUSEUM

    • Authors: Hatice Elver
Abstract: Carpet art is one of the Traditional Turkish Arts dating back to centuries before Christ. It is not known exactly when carpet weaving began. Pazyryk carpet is the oldest example of knotted weaving that has survived to the present day. Apart from this carpet, which attracts attention with its magnificent motifs and colors, examples found in many regions of Turkey show how deep-rooted the art of carpets is. Various kirkit weavings such as carpets and rugs have been made in Kars and its surroundings for years. However, today these carpets, which attract attention with their unique features, are almost absent in homes. It is possible to see valuable carpets only in museums. Museums, which were established to protect cultural heritage, to remind us of works of art that are about to be forgotten, and to pass them on to future generations, contain many valuable works in our country. Kars Museum is among the museums where these works are exhibited. This research was conducted personally with the permission received from the Kars Museum for the thesis study of Proficiency in Art. The subject of the research is 8 carpets, randomly selected from among the valuable hand-woven carpets in the ethnographic works section of the museum and not included in the scope of the thesis. In addition to the inventory information created by the museum officials, the motifs, patterns, colors, technical and composition features of the 8 carpets are explained in detail. This research is important in determining the importance of hand-woven carpets, which are our cultural heritage, and increasing awareness of protecting this valuable heritage.

  • PHILOSOPHY FOR CHILDREN: NEW HORIZONS OF THOUGHT

    • Authors: Yurdagül Demirbilek; Abdurrazak Gültekin
Abstract: This study focuses on why philosophy is understood as an effort to deeply question the nature of the universe, human knowledge processes, reality, value, art, and politics and why it is important for children. It aims to explain how philosophy contributes to children's world of thought and opens new horizons. It is emphasised that children are naturally curious and want to explore the world independently. Therefore, introducing children to a certain education system plays a critical role in helping them reveal their potential. Today, approaches called “Child Philosophy” (P4C) are applied at various educational levels and help to explore the world of thought of children. These programs encourage children to be introduced to philosophical concepts. It also aims to create a suitable environment that encourages cooperation and encourages mental activities to contribute to children's world of thought. These studies, which are expected to contribute to children's metacognitive processes, help children use their sense of questioning and curiosity effectively. It also improves critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. “Philosophy for Children”, which enriches children's world of thought with various tools such as stories and games, is important in terms of understanding mental processes and drawing attention to philosophical inquiry methods. This study aims to explain in detail how a certain system contributes to children's cognitive processes and draws attention to why philosophy is important in shaping children's world of thought.

  • DEVELOPMENT OF THE LONELINESS ANXIETY SCALE FOR EMERGING ADULTS AND
EXAMINATION OF LONELINESS ANXIETY ACCORDING TO VARIOUS VARIABLES

    • Authors: Olcan Aslan; Zeynep Karataş
Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a valid and reliable loneliness anxiety scale for emerging adults and to examine the loneliness anxiety levels of emerging adults according to some variables. The participants of the study consisted of a total of 1534 university students from 3 different study groups. EFA was conducted with the first study group consisting of 724 participants to determine the factor structure of the scale and it was found that the scale explained 55.6% of the total variance and consisted of 3 factors. For the reliability of the scale, internal consistency (Cronbach alpha), structural reliability (McDonald) and two-half reliability analyzes (Spearman Brown) were used and it was determined that the loneliness anxiety scale had a reliable structure. CFA was conducted with the second study group consisting of 257 participants and it was determined that the scale values showed a good fit. With the third study group consisting of 553 people, loneliness anxiety was examined according to various variables (gender, age, program of study, parental living situation, frequency of social media use, number of friends, longest residence center, romantic relationship status, easy friendship, psychological trauma experience, family togetherness, physical trauma experience and psychological help experience). As a result of the research, it was concluded that the loneliness anxiety scale developed as a result of the research is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to determine the loneliness anxiety levels of emerging adults.

  • STYLIZATION AND ABSTRACTION IN THE PROCESS OF MOTIF DESIGN IN ORNAMENTAL
           ARTS: THE EXAMPLE OF POMEGRANATE

    • Authors: Selda Kavas Afacan
Abstract: Motifs have been developed through various interactions in the historical process and have positively affected the formation of the identity of the cultures to which they belong. The artistic understanding of the Turks, which they based by synthesizing with refined taste, morality and superior effort, contributed to the formation of an impressive motif language. Motifs, which have a symbolic language structure, have taken their present form by being classified according to their sources, the way they have been used, their methods of design and techniques. The design process (such as motif, pattern, and composition) in illuminated arts, whose boundaries are drawn by classical rules, has made it necessary for each stage to transform into a systematic action in itself. Within the scope of the relevant subject, stylization and abstraction practices are explained on the axis of the pomegranate example. The requirements of the process are limited within the framework of the sub-headings of determining the sample identification, theoretical data collection, visual data collection, determination of technical rules and methods, study, application on the draft template: stylization and abstraction practice and termination of the design process. The motif design process in question was evaluated within a set of systematic rules based on analytical observation and formal imitation.

  • EXAMINATION OF FATAL SUICIDE CASES IN TURKEY IN TERMS OF SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC
           VARIABLES

    • Authors: Tuğba Türkkan; İbrahim Yücel
Abstract: In this study, it was examined the deaths due to suicide in Turkey between 2002 and 2022 in terms of sociodemographic variables such as age group, education level and marital status. In addition, the causes and methods of suicide were also included in the study. The data used within the scope of the study were obtained from the database on the official website of the Turkish Statistical Institute, which is allowed to be used for research purposes. Within the scope of the study, between 2002 and 2022, the number of suicide-related deaths in Turkey increased over the years. Except for deaths under the age of 15, it was found that suicide-related mortality rates of men were higher than women in all age groups. When examined in terms of educational status, it was seen that the number of deaths by suicide was the highest in the group whose education level was primary school until 2019. Still, the situation has changed since 2019, and individuals whose education level has been at high school and equivalent level for the last four years are at risk. In addition, it was determined that the number of deaths decreased with age, but there was an increase again in the 75 and over age group. When examined in terms of marital status, it was determined that married individuals were the most risky group in all years between 2002 and 2022. However, illness, parental discord and economic difficulties are the most common causes of suicide. Suicide rates are a macro indicator of the psychosocial well-being of the population and an evaluation criterion of the effectiveness of suicide prevention strategies. The findings of this study indicate that suicide is an important factor among the causes of death, especially among young people. It is thought that this study, which examines the changing patterns in the social determinants of suicide, will contribute to suicide prevention policies.

  • COMPULSORY DISTANCE EDUCATION AND THE ADAPTATION PROCESS OF ACADEMICS
           DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    • Authors: Barış Çağırkan; İlayda Albaş
Abstract: During the COVID-19 Pandemic, approximately one and a half billion students globally switched from traditional face-to-face education to compulsory distance education without preparation. In the compulsory distance education process, academics’ understanding of education and learning is affected by various factors such as departments, faculties, colleges, and theoretical or practical courses. This article discusses the compulsory distance education model implemented during the COVID-19 Pandemic process and academics’ adaptation processes to this new teaching model. Phenomenology, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in this study. The research study group, which used a purposive sampling technique, consists of 20 participants working at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the School of Foreign Languages at a state university. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using a descriptive analysis technique. In the findings, academics’ experiences and adaptation practices of the compulsory distance education process were presented in four categories: daily life practices, motivation and uncertainty, distance education, and use of information technologies. According to the research results, it was observed that academics’ working hours became uncertain with the compulsory distance education process, and they had trouble with time management. This situation has caused the distinction between work and private life to disappear, and academics feel they are working constantly. The uncertainties in course teaching affected the motivation of academics and slowed down the adaptation process to distance education. In addition, the low attendance of students in classes and the lack of switching on their cameras and microphones have decreased the quality of distance education. Academics tried various strategies to increase students’ active participation in courses. In the compulsory distance education process, students and academics increase their use of basic information technologies and learn new programs and applications over time. In this process, increasing academics’ use of information technology and diversifying course materials positively contribute to distance education. Recommendations include increasing the use of information technologies and the skills of students and academics, as well as learning and using these technologies in a regular program, which will improve the quality of distance education. In distance education, academics should use different teaching methods to make the course content more interactive and interesting. In addition, sharing strategies and experiences that will facilitate the adaptation of academics to the distance education process with their colleagues will guide other academics.

  • THE REGULATORY EFFECT OF AUTHORITARIAN PARENTING ATTITUDES ON THE
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERFECTIONISM AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS IN PRIMARY
           SCHOOL STUDENTS

    • Authors: Ayşe Eliüşük Bülbül
Abstract: In this study, the relationship between primary school students' problem-solving skills and perfectionism has been investigated. Additionally, a research model focusing on the moderating effect to explain whether this relationship depends on authoritarian parenting attitudes has been developed. The dependent variable of this research is adults' problem-solving skills (Y), the regulatory variable is parental attitudes (W), and the independent variable is adults' perfectionism (X). The population of the study consists of 51 students and their 102 parents enrolled in grades 4 to 8 in the Meram and Selçuklu districts of Konya during the 2022-2023 academic year. Purposive sampling method was used in the research. The bootstrapping method was employed to test the significance of the regulatory effect. The "Problem Solving Inventory for Children at the Elementary Level" was used to determine participants' problem-solving skills, the "Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale" was used to determine perfectionism levels, and the "Parental Attitude Scale" was used to determine parental attitudes. In cases where the authoritarian parenting attitude is low, moderate, and high, the impact of perfectionism on problem-solving skills increases. This indicates that the regulatory variable further strengthens the negative effect of perfectionism on problem-solving skills in each situation (low, moderate, high). As the authoritarian parenting attitude increases, this effect is observed to strengthen even more.

  • THE NEW DIVINE ORDER IN THE THOUGHT OF CARL SCHMITT AND ERIC VOEGELIN:
           POLITICAL THEOLOGY

    • Authors: Melike Çelebi Özcan
Abstract: Could it be that in the modern world theology has lost its meaning and the state has taken on a divine character' According to Eric Voegelin, the concept of "political theology" has led to debates about the relationship between political and religious ideas in the modern world. On the other hand, political theory has come a long way throughout history in the light of Carl Schmitt's work. Both thinkers' discussions on the nature of sovereignty, the state and political authority have influenced the understanding of the modern period. In their works, both thinkers dealt with the loss of spirituality and the existential crisis that emerged with the disappearance of the concept of transcendence lost in the political order. Ideologies that neglect or reject the spiritual dimension of human existence have been criticized as political religions. This study will discuss the intertwined theological and political deviations from the perspective of both thinkers.

  • EXAMINATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF COMPETENCIES
SOUGHT IN THE WORLD OF WORK

    • Authors: Dilber Sağır; Furkan Kirazcı, Ayşenur Büyükgöze-kavas
Abstract: The current century triggers rapid changes in the business world, necessitating individuals to possess various competencies to adapt to these changes. In this context, young people transitioning from school to work, especially those with the 21st-century competencies sought by employers, will significantly facilitate their entry into the business world and ability to sustain themselves in the labour market. However, findings in the literature indicating a gap between graduates' competencies and those sought by employers point to a significant issue. In this context, this study aims to examine university students' perceptions of transitioning from school to work regarding the 21st-century competencies sought by employers and their levels of knowledge related to these competencies. In this research, which used a survey design, data were collected from a total of 712 students studying in seven different faculties. A questionnaire containing questions about 13 competencies determined based on various reports and studies was used to collect the data. According to the results obtained from the study, it was observed that the students' levels of knowledge and their levels of possessing these competencies are average. In addition to this result, it was concluded that there are differences in students' average scores regarding these competencies based on gender and the faculties they attend. These findings were discussed in light of the literature, and various recommendations were made to university administrators and career centre managers.

  • COMPARING THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL TRANSFERS ON INCOME INEQUALITY IN
           TÜRKİYE AND THE EU

    • Authors: Dilek Özsoy
Abstract: The aim of social policies is to eliminate economic, political and social inequalities and to ensure justice in distribution. One of the important reasons for the deterioration of social justice is unjust income distribution. In this sense, practices aimed at eliminating income inequality gain importance in ensuring social justice. Income inequality and poverty are among the most important economic and social problems that need to be solved in the world and in Türkiye. Social transfers are the most important policy instruments to eliminate income inequalities. The primary income distribution, which is formed according to market conditions, forms the secondary income distribution after the social assistance provided within the scope of social policies. Social assistance aims to prevent injustice in income distribution and reduce poverty. Social assistance practices aimed at correcting income distribution and combating poverty vary according to the economic development levels of countries and the shares they allocate to social policies. In this study, the extent of the change in income distribution of EU countries and Türkiye before and after social transfers is analysed through Gini Coefficient and evaluations are made according to the comparison results obtained. Based on the descriptive analysis method, the data of the Statistical Office of the European Union were used in the study. As a result of the study, it has been observed that the change in the Gini Coefficient before and after social transfers in Türkiye is low compared to EU countries. In many countries with a higher Gini Coefficient than Türkiye before social transfers, social transfers seem to have a corrective effect on income distribution. In terms of policies aimed at ensuring fair income distribution and eliminating poverty, it is important to examine the reasons underlying Türkiye’s lowest Gini coefficient change before and after social transfers in comparison with EU countries.

  • TURAYSISI'S APPROACH TO THE REASONS OF DISAGREEMENT IN THE TA’WIL OF THE
           QUR'AN AND MUTASHABIH

    • Authors: Naim Döner
Abstract: There is no information about Rukn al-Dīn Abu Tahir al-Turaysī, a Mutazilite scholar, in the books of tabāqāt. The author evaluates the verses related to the issues of belief from a theological perspective in his work titled Mutashābih al-Qur'ān, which has survived to the present day. Criticising the methods of the Hashwiyya, Rafiza and Batiniyya sects in their approach to the ta’wil of the Qur'an, al-Turaysisī defends the Muʿtazilite approach based on reason and linguistic analysis. According to al-Ṭuraysisī, the association, istikaq (etymology), and ijmal (brief) in the wording cause disagreement in the ta’wil. Unless there is a presumption, the literal meaning of the word is not left, and the metaphoric meaning is not used. The Prophet's words and deeds are the source of explanation for the Shariah concepts, such as prayer and zakat, which need clarification. Issues such as attribution, mujawarah, and exception lead to disputes in terms of verse (poetry), while excess, hazif, and the misuse of the expression in its place lead to the emergence of disputes in terms of metaphor. Issues such as detaching the verses from their contexts, compiling unrelated verses, and not evaluating the verses holistically also cause disagreement in the ta’wil. According to al-Turaysī, the basic principles that ensure the correctness of the meaning in the ta’wil are reason, the Qur'an, the Sunnah, Ijma (consensus), and the Arabic language. In order to obtain the correct ta’wil, the ta’wils must be presented to them. Since Allah praises those who believe in the mutashabih verses and condemns those who pursue the interpretation of the verses, al-Turaysisī is of the opinion that even those who have deep knowledge of science do not know the meaning of the mutashabih.
