  • Corona Virus: Eating up the Brain of the Society

    • Authors: Tasmima Sabatina
      First page: 1
Abstract: Covid-19 confinement has changed students, learners and even teachers to alternate their learning strategies and testing the efficiency and assessment process overall. Using both primary and secondary data from online authentic sources and field research by taking school-going students and undergrad students as sample, this paper examines the regular struggles and obstacles, that the learners had to face due to this pandemic. Both teachers and students had ti perform numerous combats to get victory over quality education. The second correspondents were HSC students of Bangladesh, especially, batch 2020. And the result shows that there is significantly negative impact which greatly makes the next generation brainless and no doubt, are jn great danger, as they are not only going to be the next future leaders but they will be the policy-makers of the nation. Additionally, the paper also focuses on the decisions taken by government and the possible results regarding education system of Bangladesh.

  • Effects of Labelling Process, Stigma And Stereotype Toward Malaysian Women
           with HIV Positive

    • Authors: Mashrom Muda, Nur Hafizah Yusoff
      First page: 15
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the labelling process including stigma and stereotype that Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) women patients must go through. The stigma stems from a lack of knowledge and understanding of HIV itself. It is even worse when HIV positive people are also associated with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) even though not all HIV positive people have AIDS. Data were collected from 20 women with HIV positive in Besut, Terengganu and Pasir Puteh, Bachok and Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Purposive sampling with some help from key informant were used to get the total of 20 respondents. Result of the study indicated that those women experience severe stigma, stereotyping and negative labels even though they were not involved in any immoral activities but instead they are a victim, in which the infection came from their own husband. Some people who are not emotionally strong enough to face the negative perceptions and judgement made by the society cause them to live in fear, anxiety, isolation, depression, and some choose to quit their job and lives, avoid getting proper treatment, meeting, and interacting with others. It is not easy to ensure that society do not label or stigmatize HIV positive patients. But it is the duty of all parties to provide knowledge of Positive HIV and it is a disease that is not easily transmitted to the public. So, there is no reason for the public to fear and punish the patients.

  • Collective Identity for Societal Building in the Light of the Teachings of
           Iqbal

    • Authors: Javed Yunas Uppal
      First page: 26
Abstract: This paper attempts to emphasize the role of collective identity in a group or community in the societal building in the light of the teachings of the poet Iqbal. People need to change their focus from personal-selves to a collective-self. It is described as to how healthier people are the need of the moneyed class. They are part of the stakeholders in any societal movement. The paper describes how to involve their interest. Outreach is easier these days because of digital instruments. A toolkit has been developed following which the individual selves can be mobilized together into a collective self, for the societal building. A few case studies are referred where collective identity among stakeholders is studied: in a renovation project environment in Finland, in management environment in Norway, and spiritual workforce environment in the US.

  • Technical Efficiency in Swine Production Under Different Waste Management
           Techniques

    • Authors: Nsikak-Abasi A. Etim, Elizabeth S. Ebukiba, Edet J. Udoh, Esther U. Essang
      First page: 38
Abstract: In spite of the enormous benefits derivable from pig production, farmers are yet to fully maximize output due largely to inefficiency in the use of resources. An empirical study was carried out to examine the technical efficiency of resource use in swine production under different waste management strategies. Multistage sampling procedure was employed to select 60 farmers and primary data were obtained with the aid of questionnaire. Using the stochastic production frontier function based on the Cobb- Douglas form, asymptotic parameter estimates were evaluated to describe efficiency determinants. Result revealed that the most vital factors influencing technical efficiency across the pig farms were labour, medication and stocking density whereas the most critical explainers of inefficiency across all the pig farms were farming experience, access to credit and extension contact. The average efficiency for pig farmers that bury, dump and compost waste were 0.87, 0.88 and 0.74 respectively while the mean efficiency across all the pig farms was 0.80. The fact that all the pigs farms had mean efficiencies of less than one is indicative that none of the pig farms reached the frontier threshold in production. Thus, within the context of efficient agricultural production, pig farmers could still increase their output using appropriate technologies and the right resource-mix.

  • Fighting Kleptocracy in Democracy: An Assessment of the Efficacy of
           Anti-graft Policy Enforcement in Nigeria

    • Authors: Oguadinma Joshua Jones, Ozor Adanne Chioma
      First page: 49
Abstract: Financial crimes in Nigerian socio-political milieu have been more recurrent in contemporary times. The paper attempted to assess the performance of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from inception as a platform to evaluate the efficacy of anti-graft policy enforcement in Nigeria. It sought to establish whether the persistence of graft offences by Nigerian government officials was fallout of flaws emanating from censored operational space to restrict of the agency’s autonomy. Statutorily, it was mandated to prosecute all financial corruption in public offices, money laundering, advance-fee fraud and other offences related to these. However, in spite of these efforts, the war against corruption in every sphere is far from over. The paper anchored on the rational choice theory as analytical framework and employed the secondary source of data collection and analysis. Arguably, the EFCC operations have not been effective since the number of convictions for financial crimes in public offices is considered relatively low as against the level of the offense in the country. Again, the personnel of the agency were deemed to lack the required autonomy to address the intricacies of fighting the crime. Therefore, to reduce the spate of financial embezzlement, the Nigerian public laws should be amended to embrace a credible method of nominating candidates with good track records for political positions and public offices. In the same vein, more realistic autonomy should be given the operatives of the EFCC with a view to elicit more credible enforcement of the anti-graft law.
