  • Robotic theatre: comparative analysis of human and mechanized activities
           in the creative process

    • Authors: Tetiana Sovhyra
      Pages: 295 - 306
Abstract: The article systematizes and analyzes the existing experience of organizing the creative process in a robotic theater. The author explores the robotic theater phenomenon, the artificial intelligence technology possibilities to function in the stage space. The article provides a comparative analysis of human and mechanized interaction in the stage space. The methodological basis of the research is a combination of several methods: analytical – for accounting for historical and fictional literature; theoretical and conceptual method – for analyzing the conceptual and terminological system of research and identifying the specifics of introducing the artificial intelligence technology in creative process; comparative-typological – to compare the peculiarities of the functioning of mechanized “actors” with the acting skills of human performers. The article explores the threat perception and uncanny valley concepts to study the perception of a robot–actor by an audience. The author examines the process of human interaction with a robotic body: from the moment of interest, interaction to the moment of rejection of the robot by a person (audience).

  • Creative reconstructions of political imagery in an Instagram-based
election campaign: implications for visual rhetorical literacy

    • Authors: Katarzyna Molek-Kozakowska, Agnieszka Kampka
      Pages: 307 - 322
Abstract: This article reviews literature on visual rhetoric in political campaigning and synthesizes several strands of current research devoted to the rhetorical potential of communicating with visuals in online environments. It uses rhetorical concepts of identification and manoeuvring, as well as the category of topos, to discuss the implications of an abductive analysis of a coded corpus of 1976 Instagram images posted during 2019 election to the European Parliament campaign in Poland. On this basis, the article offers recommendations related to the awareness of topoi in visual rhetoric to foster users’ creative inventory. In the context of increasingly strategically designed and creative online political communications, scholarship should offer guidance on how to parse images according to how they (mis)represent political reality to fit the purposes of elite communicators, and how to challenge them.

  • The effect of creative problem solving with the intervention social skills
on the performance of creative tasks

    • Authors: Hadi Suryanto, I Nyoman Sudana Degeng, Ery Tri Djatmika, Dedi Kuswandi
      Pages: 323 - 335
Abstract: This research aims to determine the social skills intervention with the student’s ability to solve problems creatively towards understanding the concepts and procedures: the objectives of learning. A quasi-experimental research design was used to see the interaction between attitudes and treatments. The research sample was students who took computer courses in reality-based laboratories in vocational schools. Data analysis was performed using descriptive analysis techniques and inferential statistical multivariate analysis of variance two paths. Creative problem solving is intervened by a background in social skills to understand concepts and procedures. Social skills have a greater influence on the creative process. This can be seen when giving creative problem-solving tasks. The abilities they have, about; readiness to learn, the ability to understand one’s own needs, and the ability to understand one’s own learning style, greatly support the performance of their creative assignments. At the same time, external factors have less influence on the performance of creative tasks. These external factors are influenced by the class social environment, group formation, and class management. Students who have high social skills find it easier to complete creative tasks, and students who have low social skills have problems adapting and adjusting to the learning process.

  • Creative cultural product design in the bicultural context

    • Authors: Jong Boonpracha
      Pages: 336 - 345
Abstract: The study explores how to innovate creative cultural product design by integrating two explicit cultures’ contexts. The study proposes a four-step approach for developing uniquely innovative cultural products under a bicultural context: 1) Identify cultural context, 2) Survey comparable features of two different cultures, 3) Compare the differences and similarities of two unique cultures, and 4) Negotiate the differences and integration. The case study represented in the demonstration is the critical factor of the proposed approach. The SCAMPER technic was applied to generate creative ideas. The results show that bicultural communication is an essential strategy for fostering design innovation. The SCAMPER technic application helps the study reach developing creative cultural product design in the bicultural context.

  • An exploratory study on design process in architecture: perspective of
           creativity

    • Authors: Shanta Pragyan Dash
      Pages: 346 - 361
Abstract: Any design challenge could be solved by identifying systemic complexity in the issue before following any problem-solving process. Designers approach problems in different forms but historically worked effectively to build a template or phase sequence. The design process can be used by designers virtually in any project which plays a crucial role in designing innovative architectural projects for many architects. Many studies were conducted to analyze, review, compare and recommend several creative approaches to problem management that allow designers to recognize their work and propose new solutions. However, there are not many studies on the stages to follow to undergo a comprehensive design process in architecture. This study aims to review the various stages involved in the design process. Firstly, it addresses the conceptualization phase of design critically examining the creativity and ideation process with creative and strategic thinking. Secondly, it discusses the representation of the design process expressing through storyboards and animatic, computer-aided design and building information modeling, and virtual reality and augmented environments. Thirdly, it discusses design assessment stage where the techniques for assessment of creativity in design and simulation for analyzing users’ perspective is explained. In the conclusions of the paper, a discussion has been made on an inter-relationship between the various stages in the design process and its relevance for a comprehensive understanding of the architectural integrative design process to address any design challenge both as a studio project for architecture students or in live projects by the practicing architects.

  • Self-assessment to subjective creativity and new ideas: determinant within
           risk taking, autonomy and tradition

    • Authors: Nguyễn Ngọc Trung, Nguyễn Thị Hoai Le, Trần Viết Hồi, Won Joong Kim
      Pages: 362 - 375
Abstract: Individuals’ creativity and new ideas today are not only essential for firms, agencies or organizations but also indispensable even for a nation. This article analyzes impacts of autonomy, risk taking and, especially, factor of tradition on self-assessment to subjective creativity and attitude to new ideas. Specifically, the article empirically analyzes how those factors affect creativity and new ideas and tests whether tradition is more meaningful than others in explaining creativity or new ideas. Most of previous research has theoretically concluded that, because of rigid and unchangeable norms and rules in tradition, individuals are not easy to generate or do new things, especially in Eastern countries. South Korea, with a long tradition within Asian and Confucian values, it is said that these values may limit creativity and new ideas. However, South Korea has achieved satisfactory outcomes in process of creative development, which could positively be affected by its tradition. Using the data from World Values Survey for South Korea at the latest wave 6th, the results show that tradition has a positive impact on subjective creativity beside significantly positive influence of risk taking, which is not considered to be important from cultural perspective.

  • Blowing up the fashion bubble, or nine things wrong with fashion: an
outsider’s comment. A critical essay on fashion as a creative industry

    • Authors: Kristina Stankevičiūtė
      Pages: 376 - 390
Abstract: The world of fashion has lived in a bubble long before the concept found its way into social networks. Well before the social networks themselves, in fact. The very emergence of fashion as an idea occurred within the bubble of the social life at Palace of Versailles, France, where the notorious Louis XIV sported great interest in the looks of his court in addition to those of his own. The article is an outsider’s attempt to have a sober look at the fashion industry that until recently seemed to have maintained the “structure of feeling” of the 17th century Palace of Versailles. Today’s social realities, however, put fashion in the state of a shock that probably equals that of the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, even though it is presumably much less sudden. Written in the manner of the most popular contemporary fashion media format – a bullet list, the text presents a conceptual analysis of the world’s second most wasteful yet poisonously attractive industry, critically reflecting on such characteristic values of the fashion field as concept and features, hierarchy, arrogance, resources and philosophy.

  • Methodological approach to determining the main factors for the
development of creative thinking in students of creative professions

    • Authors: Myroslav Kryshtanovych, Svitlana Kryshtanovych, Liudmyla Stepanenko, Yuliіa Brodiuk, Alina Fast
      Pages: 391 - 404
Abstract: The phenomenon of a person’s creative thinking, as well as the mechanisms of its development, are in the problematic field of research of numerous scientists for many centuries. The relevance of these problems was reinforced in many respects by the desire of a person to understand his capabilities, to use them in order to create a comfortable environment around him. Interest in this problem at this stage of socio-historical development has its own special features. The questions that are raised in the study are what factors have the most significant influence on the development of creative thinking in students of creative professions. The main purpose of the article is to determine and compile the key factors for the development of creative thinking in students of creative professions as the main guarantee of their success. To do this, we have applied the methodology of the graph connections between the main factors, which will allow us to form a methodological approach to the hierarchical ordering of the most important factors in the development of creative thinking in students of creative professions as the main guarantee of their success. The subject of the research is the factors of influence on the creative thinking of students of creative specialties. The results of the study led to the formation of the key factors influencing the development of creative thinking among students of creative professions through expert analysis and a survey of specialists in this field and literature. The practical value of the study is to determine the key factors of influence on the development of creative thinking in students and the possibility of using the proposed methodological approach, in particular. The study has limitations and they consist because the process of determining the key factors for the development of creative thinking in students of creative professions took place only considering the specifics of the activities of educational institutions in Ukraine.

  • Creative ethnicity: music as an element of ethnicity among Polish Tatars

    • Authors: Urszula Abłażewicz-Górnicka, Karolina Radłowska
      Pages: 405 - 418
Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyse the role of ethnic music in the life of the Tatar minority in Poland as an example of creative ethnicity. On the one hand, modern Tatar musical practices construct an interesting example of “invented tradition” because the studied group does not have “musical memory”, while on the other hand, these activities are aimed at the group’s future. Music can fulfill different social functions. In the case of ethnic groups, three of these functions seem to be particularly relevant: integrational, political (ideological) and identity. Desk research reveals the formal and informal musical practices undertaken by Polish Tatars. The values and musical assets associated with Tatar culture reflect the minority’s identity. The main statement of the article is that music is an important element that contributes to constructing the contemporary group’s identity. Tatar music is becoming an essential element of Tatar culture, enhancing a sense of the group’s distinctiveness. The contemporary Tatar music groups construct a significant Tatar showcase to the audience outside of the Tatar ethnic group, as well as form an important identity element of the Tatar community and a manifestation of creative ethnicity. It is also possible to find correlations between their repertoire and contemporary group transformations, including those related to its identity.
