  • Investigation of Sports Nutrition Knowledge Levels of Students Studying at
the School of Physical Education and Sports in terms of Some Variables

    • Authors: Zekai ÇAKIR; Osman Satı COŞKUNTÜRK
Abstract: Although adequate and balanced nutrition is important for everyone in every period, it is one of the main factors that negatively affect the quality of life of individuals with insufficient nutritional knowledge and the performance of athletes. Adequate nutrition is directly proportional to conscious nutrition and good nutritional information. In the light of the information about the nutrition information of the students studying in the field of sports, although there are some studies, the aim of this study, which is to contribute from a different perspective to the studies that measure the nutrition information of the students who do active sports and continue their education, from a different perspective. and to evaluate the sports nutrition knowledge levels of students who do and do not do active sports in different branches according to the sports branch they do (team or individual). Data were collected from 339 students within the scope of the study. Statistical analysis of the data was made in SPSS 26 statistical package program. As a data collection tool, the Sports Nutrition Knowledge Scale, which Çırak and Çakıroğlu (2019) adapted into Turkish, was used. Frequency and percentage values of the obtained data were calculated. As a result, the knowledge of sports science students who do active sports is not at the desired level, have partially incomplete information and have faulty eating habits. It has been concluded that most of them do not give enough importance to their nutrition even if they do not do active sports. As a result, it is thought that students and active athletes should receive academic and scientific support in order to increase their nutritional knowledge and gain correct eating habits.

  • Adaptation of the Critical Attitudes of Athletes towards Coaches Scale
into Turkish: A Validity and Reliability Study

    • Authors: Ahmet Yavuz KARAFİL; Hüseyin Şahin UYSAL, Mehmet Haşim AKGÜL
Abstract: The attitude of the coaches toward the athletes can be an essential factor affecting the performance of the athletes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the "Development and initial validation of athletes' perceptions of coach-related critical attitudes scale" by adapting it to Turkish. The study's sample group consisted of a total of 183 athletes competing in individual and team sports. Statistical analyzes of the study were carried out in two stages validity and reliability. Scale validity was evaluated according to the following analyzes; (i) analysis of normality, (ii) language validity, (iii) confirmatory factor analysis of study validity, and (iv) analysis of divergent and convergent validity. The reliability of the scale was examined by (i) item analysis, (ii) CR, (iii) Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient, and (iv) inter-item correlation analysis. As a result of the language validity processes of the study, a statistically significant positive correlation was determined between Turkish and the original language (English) (p= ,87). Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated a good agreement in terms of validity Confirmatory factor analysis results, cmin/df =2.591, RMSEA=80, GFI,959, TLI=.946, IFI=.972 CFI=.972was found as. The values obtained as a result of divergent and convergent validity analyzes showed that the scale was suitable in terms of validity (Ave=0,57; √Ave= 0,75; Msv= 0,51; Asv= 0,24). The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient and CR values of the study expressed high reliability (Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient=,874; CR=,90). Similarly, item analysis and item-total correlation analyses indicated that this study was reliable (Lower limit= ,46; Upper limit= ,78). Statistically significant differences were found between the lower and upper groups (p<0.05). As a result, it was understood that the scale was adapted to Turkish as valid and reliable. Through this scale, field experts and practitioners can evaluate athletes' attitudes toward their coaches as valid and reliable.

  • Acid – Base Homeostasis in the Exercise a Traditional Review

    • Authors: Cebrail GENÇOĞLU; Mustafa GÜL, Süleyman ULUPINAR, Serhat ÖZBAY, Ayhan TANYELİ, Saime ÖZBEK ŞEBİN, Emine ÖNCAN
Abstract: During high intensity exercise (i.e., working above the lactate threshold), the contracting skeletal muscles generate plenty of hydrogen (H+) ions. These H+ ions can lead to the exercise-induced metabolic acidosis and impairment of acid-base homeostasis. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explain (a) the physiological mechanism of changes in the body pH level due to exercise and its effect on sportive performance, (b) the physiological mechanism of changes in exercise-induced acid-base homeostasis and its effect on athletic performance, and (c) the methods to minimize the negative effects of the mentioned physiological events. The aim of this study is to examine the nutritional supplements that can be used in the light of current literature. In this review, scientific articles and books on exercise and acid-base balance, exercise-induced acid-base disorders were examined. Pub Med, Web of Science, Medline, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar and ULAKBİM electronic databases were searched using the keywords “exercise and pH balance”, “acidosis and exercise”, “exercise and acid-base balance”, “athletic performance and fluid balance”, “sport supplements for acid-base balance”, “sports beverage for athletes” and “nutritional strategies for acid-base balance”. A decrease in pH level with metabolic acidosis could decrease the exercise performance. Metabolic acidosis also negatively affects exercise performance due to factors such as the feeling of fatigue, and the decrease in mechanical performance in the muscles in athletes Therefore, showing the necessary sensitivity to the protection of acid-base balance and using supportive nutritional supplements (sodium bicarbonate, sodium citrate, beta alanine, etc.) for delaying fatigue by athletes are recommended alternatives to maintain optimal performance.
