  • Investigation of High School Students' Barriers to Participation in
Physical Activities According to Various Variables

    • Authors: Halil İbrahim Akyayla; Pelin Gönkek, Volkan Unutmaz
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to determine the factors that barrier high school students from participating in The aim of this study is to determine the factors that prevent high school students from participating in physical activities and to analyze them in terms of age, gender, grade, high school type, athletic background and frequency of doing sports. Quantitative research method was used in the study. The population of the research consists of high school students studying in Turkey, and the sample consists of 1389 high school students studying in Bornova district of Izmir province under the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey in the 2022-2023 academic year. In the study, the “Factors Preventing High School Students' Participation in Physical Activities Scale” and a personal information form regarding demographic data were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics were used for the variables based on the research, independent T-test was used to determine the significance of the difference between two independent groups, and One-Way ANOVA test was used to determine the significance of the difference between three or more independent variable groups. In the findings of the study, family factor was found to be the main factor preventing high school students from participating in physical activity, while differences emerged in terms of age, gender, grade, high school type, athlete background and frequency of doing sports (* p<.05; **p<,01). This study helps determine the factors that prevent high school students from participating in physical activities, while also providing suggestions for increasing the participation of high school students in physical activity.

  • Determination of the Effects of 8-Week Core Exercises Applied to 10-12
Year Old Children Beginning Taekwondo on Some Performance Parameters

    • Authors: Kaan Baykara; Mikail Tel, Kenan Bozbay, Emsal Çağla Avcu, Polat Yücedal, Ebru Orhan
Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of core exercises on some physical performance parameters in 10-12 year old children who have just started taekwondo. 20 participants who had taekwondo experience in the same club were randomly divided into two equal groups as the experimental (n =10) and control (n =10) groups. While the control group participated only in the taekwondo training program 3 days a week for 8 weeks, the experimental group additionally participated in the core exercise program. Participants were evaluated in vertical jump, standing long jump, flamingo balance, plank, t-drill test, 20 m sprint, 30 sec shuttle and 30 sec push up tests at the beginning of the program and at the end of the program. In the intra-group comparison in the experimental group, a significant difference was detected in the vertical jump, standing long jump, flamingo balance, plank, t-drill test, 20 m sprint, 30 sec shuttle and 30 sec push up tests (p<0.05). In the control group, in the intra-group comparison, a significant difference was detected in the vertical jump, standing long jump, flamingo balance, plank, t-drill test, 30 sec sit-up and 30 sec push-up tests (p<0.05), while no significant difference was detected in the 20 m speed test (p>0.05). In the comparison between groups, a significant difference was detected in the vertical jump, standing long jump, flamingo balance, plank, t-drill test, 20 m sprint, 30 sec shuttle and 30 sec push up tests (p<0.05). As a result, it was observed that the core exercise program had positive effects on physical performance parameters.

  • Factors Affecting Shooting Skill in Turkish Archery The Relation between
Final Pull Distance and Logarithmic Dimensionless Jerk

    • Authors: Uğur Ödek
Abstract: The acceleration-derived jerk is negatively correlated with the performance of fine motor skills. Increased jerk significantly impairs the performance of the aiming phase in archery. The aim of this study was to investigate hand and bow jerk during shooting from different final draw distances. The study was conducted with the participation of 10 (age: 32.42±4.3 years; gender: 6 males, 4 females) experienced (6.23±2.35 years) traditional archers. The participants shot short-range shots at distances corresponding to the maximum draw distance and certain percentages of the maximum draw distance (98%, 96%, 94%, and 92%). Logarithmic dimensionless jerks of the hands and bow were calculated for the aiming phase. RM-ANOVAs and multiple linear regression analyses were used to explain the effect of final pull distance on jerk and the relationship between bow jerk and hand jerk. It was found that the jerks of the hands and bow varied significantly as a function of final pull distance, with the lowest jerks occurring at 98% and 96% of the maximum draw distance. It was also found that the bow jerk could be significantly explained by the collective effect of both hands in all trials. In conclusion, it is believed that the performance of traditional archery can be improved by implementing the results of this research in the field.

  • The Motivation of Stakeholders Providing Recreation Services and
           Sponsoring in Municipalities

    • Authors: Kaan Turgutkaya; Kerem Yıldırım Şimşek
Abstract: The fact that the determining factors motivating stakeholders to become involved or sponsor recreational areas under municipal management have not been identified constitutes crucial information needed by the recreation industry. In this context, the aim of the research is to identify stakeholders in municipal recreation areas, to reveal motivation factors that can guide both municipalities and stakeholders, and to obtain the fundamental scientific knowledge necessary for municipalities to organize recreational activities according to the motivations of their stakeholders. The population of the study comprises businesses operating in recreational areas within municipalities and stakeholders sponsoring organized activities. Managers of stakeholder businesses and sponsors operating in recreational areas of Eskişehir municipalities were identified using criterion-based sampling technique. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with stakeholders within Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Tepebaşı Municipality, and Odunpazarı Municipality. As a result of thematic analysis, the motivations of stakeholder managers were identified. Based on the findings, under the theme of "Motivations of Stakeholders Related to Recreation," 3 categories and 24 codes were revealed, namely "Collaboration Motivations," "Sponsorship Motivations," and "Social Responsibility Motivations". As a result, factors motivating companies to provide sponsorship for recreational services or events organized by municipalities have been identified. Consequently, fundamental factors motivating stakeholder companies to collaborate, sponsor, or undertake social responsibility in municipal recreational areas or events have been determined.

  • Coaching Self-Efficiency Levels of Official Coaches in Public Service

    • Authors: Musa Karnikara; Mustafa Karahan
Abstract: It is important to know the self-efficacy levels of public service coaches, who play an important role in developing sports in the country. Given the limited research on this topic, this study aims to investigate the coaching self-efficacy levels of coaches working in public service. The study will consider variables such as gender, type of sport, coaching certification level, and coaching and sports player experience.A total of 324 coaches from all regions of Turkey with at least a second-level coaching certificate were voluntary participants in this research. This study used the coaching self-efficacy scale and personal information form as data collection tools. The data was collected through an internet connection Participants' self-efficacy was 84.6% in general, 84.3% in motivation, 85.6% in technique, 81.2% in-game strategy, 88.3% in character formation and 82.5% in physical condition, Differences between individual and team sports coaches in general self-efficacy and its subscales self-efficacy were not significant. However, there were significant differences in all self-efficacy regarding coaching certification (p<0.05). Male coaches had higher than female coaches in physical condition, and coaches with athletic experience had higher self-efficacy in-game strategy than those without experience (p<0.05).The present study reveals that the participants' belief in their coaching efficacy is at a high level. In addition, it was concluded that gender in physical condition, athletic experience in game strategy, and coaching certificate level both general and in all its sub-dimensions are important for the efficacy perception levels of the coaches in this study.
