  • Comparison of The Turkish Clubs with English and German Clubs Toward The
           Modern Soccer Statistics

    • Authors: Kerem Güneş; Tuba Bozdoğan
Abstract: Aim: The purpose of this study is, in 2017-2018 season, to evaluate similarities and differences between teams in Super League, Premier League, Bundesliga according to parameters that collected under “Modern Soccer Statistics” which are expected goals, action value and possession value. Method: In 2017-2018 season; 18 teams of Super League, 20 teams Premier League, 18 teams of Bundesliga and whole matches of these teams included to this research. The datas of 992 matches were analyzed. Results: Findings are the highest in Premier League with 50.9 in terms of expected goals average across the Super League, Premier League and Bundesliga; Although it was the lowest in Super League with 46.4, it showed that there was no significant difference. Expected goals per game was determined 0.38 in Premier League, 0.29 in Bundesliga and 0.27 in Super League in proportion to the total score. Action value (3.87-3.99) and action value-offense (3.12-3.14) were examined, no significant difference was observed between leagues, but it was determined that the action value - defense average of Premier League teams was higher. It was determined that there was no significant difference in the possession value of the teams in leagues. Conclusion: Among the teams that have qualified to participate in the Champions League, expected goals, action value, possession value points, goals scored and goals conceded values are all at similar levels. Among the teams that have qualified to participate in the Europa League, only the teams in Super League have a higher average score, and among the relegated teams It was revealed that the teams relegated from Bundesliga had more ball than the teams relegated from Premier League. In the research, when all teams in the leagues are considered in general, regardless of category, the defensive action values of the teams in the Premier League are higher.

  • Evaluation of Goalkeepers’ Performance via Grey Relational Analysis
Method: Example of Africa Cup of Nations

    • Authors: Abdullah Yiğit Güngör
Abstract: Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the technical performance of goalkeepers via the gray relational analysis method. Materials and Method: The sample of the study consisted of 21 goalkeepers competing in the African Cup of Nations 2023. Data was obtained from the official website of the Confederation of African Football and Transfermarkt. Technical performance indicators were determined as “save percentage”, “claimed crosses” and “passing accuracy”. The data were evaluated by the grey relational analysis method among the quantitative research methods. In this context, six steps of the grey relational analysis method were applied respectively. These are "preparation of the data set and generation of the decision matrix", "normalization of the data", "generation of the reference series", "generation of the absolute value table", "generation of the grey relational coefficient matrix", "calculation and ranking of the grey relational degrees". Results: According to the analysis results, the highest technical performance value was calculated as 0.7654, while the lowest technical performance value was calculated as 0.3949. Thus, the top 3 goalkeepers were determined as Ronwen Williams (South Africa), Edouard Mendy (Senegal), and Babacar Niass (Mauritania). The last 3 goalkeepers were determined as Richard Ofori (Ghana), Ibrahim Koné (Guinea), and Baboucarr Gaye (Gambia). Conclusion: According to the results of the research, Ronwen Williams (South Africa), who won the Golden Glove Award and was selected for the team of the tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations, was determined as the goalkeeper with the highest performance. His national team South Africa completed the tournament in 3rd place, despite being ranked 19th among 24 teams in terms of market value. Similar conclusions were obtained for the remained goalkeepers. It is expected that this conclusion will provide significant contributions for stakeholders such as researchers, goalkeepers, coaches, scouts, and trainers.

  • An Investigation of the Relationship Between Speed and Agility Performance
           Parameters in Recreational Tennis Players

    • Authors: Erhan Işıkdemir; Buse Ayaz, Serkan Uzlaşır, Osman Dişçeken
Abstract: Aim: This study aims to explore the relationship between short-distance speed performance and agility in male and female tennis players who play three times weekly, highlighting the differences in speed and agility based on gender over distances of 5-10 meters. Method: The sample consisted of 20 university students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, with an average age of 21 ± 1.5 years, equally divided by gender, all regularly participating in tennis training. To assess acceleration, 5m and 10m sprint tests were conducted, alongside the T-Test for agility evaluation. The Pearson Correlation test examined the link between agility and speed, while an independent samples T-test compared gender-specific test scores. Findings: Findings reveal a significant correlation between agility and both 5m (r=.741; p<0.01) and 10m (r=.806; p<0.01) sprint times, indicating a strong relationship between these aspects. Notably, significant differences in agility and sprint times were observed between genders, suggesting inherent performance variances. Conclusion: Consequently, enhancing speed attributes in tennis is believed to significantly boost agility performance. It is recommended that training programs focusing on speed development should be utilized, incorporating these gender differences into the training regime to optimize athlete performance. This study underscores the integral role of speed in improving agility within tennis, advocating for tailored training approaches.

  • Evaluation of the Effects of Different Warm-Up Protocols on Agility and
           Speed in Badminton Players

    • Authors: Ecem Buse Atasoy; Tuba Kızılet, Nurettin Ersin Uzun, Ahmet Karadağ
Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different warm-up methods on basic motoric characteristics in badminton players.Method: The sample group of the study consisted of 10 male athletes with a mean age of 21.9 ± 2.2 years, who played badminton at Marmara University Faculty of Sports Sciences. Three different warm-up protocols including traditional warm-up, static warm-up and explosive warm-up were applied to the athletes before the tests. After each warm-up protocol, T Agility Test and 10-meter sprint test were performed. SPSS 26 statistical program was used for data analysis. Results: When the 10 m sprint test results were analyzed, there was no statistically significant difference between the traditional warm-up protocol and the static warm-up and explosive warm-up protocols (r=1.000; r=0.53; p>0.05, respectively), while a statistically significant difference was found between the static warm-up protocol and the explosive warm-up protocol (r=.027; p<0.05). When the agility results were analyzed, there was no statistically significant difference between the traditional warm-up protocol and the static warm-up protocol (r=.611; p>0.05), while a statistically significant difference was found between the traditional warm-up protocol and the explosive warm-up protocol (r=.020; p<0.05) and between the explosive warm-up protocol and the static warm-up protocol (r=.001; p<0.05).Conclusion: In the present study, as a result of the comparison of 3 different warm-up protocols, better results were observed in agility and sprint performance after the explosive warm-up protocol. The effect of all three warm-up methods on improving performance was observed in parallel with many studies. However, certain effect differences were revealed inline with the results. It can be said that explosive warm-up will be more effective on the performance of athletes because the game is fast and the jumping activities are high.
