  • Development Study of Psychological Performance Evaluation Scale in Sports

    • Authors: Hayri AYDOGAN; Yahya KONAŞ
Abstract: This research was carried out in order to develop the "Psychological Performance Evaluation Scale in Sports (PPESiS)" and to determine its psychometric properties. The universe of this research consists of athletes competing on a team or individual basis from 35 sports branches that represent the theoretical framework. The sample consists of 840 active elite athletes who compete in individual and team sports determined by random sampling method from the universe and agree to participate voluntarily in our study. The development of the “Psychological Performance Assessment Scale in Sports (PPESiS)” consists of certain stages. In order to determine the scale items, a pool of items was first created. Then, expert opinions were obtained, pilot trials were conducted and the reliability and validity of the scale were tested, respectively. In order to examining the structural validity of the scale, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used, and convergent validity and divergence validity were also subjected to analyses. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient was calculated for the reliability test of the scale. As a result of the analyzes conducted, the scores obtained from the validity and reliability tests support the 3-factor structure of the 32-item PPESiS. As a result, it was concluded that the Psychological Performance Evaluation Scale in Sports is a measurement tool that provides psychometric qualities for assessing the psychological performance of the Turkish population in a sports environment.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the physical activity levels of middle school students studying during the COVID-19 pandemic period and their parents in terms of some variables, and also to reveal the relationship between the physical activity levels of parents and their children. 381 middle school students studying in Rize during the 2021-2022 academic year and 667 parents participated in the study. As data collection tools, the personal information form, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children were used. In the statistical method, the percentage distribution and frequency values of the data were determined by descriptive statistics. Shapiro Wilk Test and Kurtosis-Skewness values were used as normality test. In pairwise comparisons, Independent Sample T Test was used for parametric data and Mann Whitney U Test was used for non-parametric data. One-way ANOVA was used for parametric data and Kruskal Wallis test was used for non-parametric data in the comparison of groups of three or more. Spearman correlation test was used in the relation analysis. It was observed that there were significant differences between the physical activity levels of the children according to their age and gender. Similarly, there were significant differences between the physical activity levels of parents according to their gender. It was determined that there was a moderate relationship between the physical activity scores of mothers and fathers. As a result, it was found that catching COVID 19 did not cause a difference in physical activity levels of parents and children, male parents and male children had more physical activity levels than female parents and female children, and there was no relationship between the physical activity levels of parents and their children.

  • Determination of the Orthorexia Nervosa Prevalence in University Students:
Sample of Faculty of Sports Sciences

    • Authors: Gökçen DEMİR; Yüksel SAVUCU
Abstract: In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence of Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) among students receiving sports education and to examine the relationships between eating attitudes and demographic variables. The population of the research consisted of approximately 1200 students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Fırat University. The study was carried out with 368 students (132 girls, 236 boys). ORTO-15 (Orthorexia Nervosa Assessment Test) scale was used to evaluate ON tendency and YTT-40 (Eating Attitude Test) was used to evaluate eating behaviors. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 17.0 package program. In the analyzes performed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Independent Samples Kruskal-Wallis test, the level of significance was accepted as p<0.05. No significant difference was found between gender, age groups, BMI groups and ON tendency (p>0.05). Orthorexic tendency of married students is significantly higher than other students (p<0.05). Eating attitude disorder is more likely to be seen in female students (p<0.05). There was no difference between the ORTO-15 and YTT-40 scores according to the students' status of taking nutrition lessons. It was found that the ON tendency of the students who did regular physical activity was significantly higher than the other students (p<0.05). A weak negative correlation was found between ORTO-15 and YTT-40 scores (r=-0.366, p=0.000). As a result, it was found that most of the students participating in our study had orthorexic tendencies. However, the fact that this probability is high is not significant enough because the eating attitude test scores are not at a level to support the existence of an eating disorder risk. There is a need for more comprehensive studies on ON, the prevalence of which is increasing.

           and Reliability Study

    • Authors: Emine ÖZTÜRK KARATAŞ; Özgür KARATAŞ
Abstract: The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that can determine the communication skills of physical education and sports teachers. The population of the study consisted of students studying at high schools in Malatya in the 2021-2022 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of 432 high school students for Exploratory Factor Analysis, 652 for Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and 62 high school students for test-retest analysis. The final version of the prepared scale items was created as a result of the opinions of 22 experts. As a result of the validity and reliability analyzes, a scale consisting of three factors and 18 items was developed as 'effective communication', 'communication barriers' and 'intraclass interaction'. Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient for the whole scale was calculated as 0.84.The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient for the sub-dimensions was 0.86 for the first sub-dimension, "effective communication", 0.91 for the second sub-dimension, "communication barriers", and 0.90 for the third sub-dimension, "in-class interaction". Therefore, it can be said that the developed physical education and sports teacher communication skills scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. As a conclusion, it is thought that this scale, which can be used to determine the communication skills of physical education and sports teachers, will contribute to the field.

  • Obstacles to Women's Physical Activity: A Systematic Review Study

    • Authors: Bahar GÜLER
Abstract: A sufficient level of physical activity of individuals has a great impact on maintaining and restoring health. Low levels of physical activity are a major risk factor for obesity and type 2 diabetes, which are non-communicable diseases. In this regard, certain levels of physical activity are recommended for both men and women. Studies conducted in our country and around the world also show that women and men have different levels of physical activity. The majority of studies show that women's physical activity levels are lower than men's physical activity levels. At this point, ‘What are the factors that cause women to have low physical activity'’ the question comes to mind. In the study, studies related to women's physical activity levels were screened and the obstacles to women's physical activities were determined and presented. According to the findings of the study; women's physical activity levels decrease with increasing age. It has been found that housewives who are married have lower levels of physical activity. Women in high-income countries have lower levels of physical activity. Women living in rural areas have lower BMI and higher physical activity rates than women living in urban areas. As a result, among the factors that increase the dec of physical activity of women are; living in more walkable cities, reliable environment, affordable price, there is a gym, social facilities and parks near her home, and sports places are unique for women to meet.
