  • The effect of contextual variables on match running performance in a
category 3, U18 English Academy soccer team

    • Authors: David Barron, Chris Yiannaki, John Fry, Jake Atherton
      Pages: 1 - 14
Abstract: This study aimed to examine the effect of contextual variables on match running performance (MRP) in a category three English Academy U18 soccer team during a competitive season. Total distance (TD), high speed running (HSR) and sprinting (SPT) performance was analysed during the 2020-2021 season. A total of 25 league games were analysed using Catapult Vector GPS (10Hz) and 14 outfield players included for analysis. Players were classified into full back (n = 4), central defender (n = 2), wide midfielder (n = 2), central midfielder (n = 2) and forward (n = 2). Dependent variables were TD, HSR and SPT and independent variables were: match location, match outcome, opposition strength and fixture congestion. Non-significant differences were found for TD and HSR which was higher during all home games compared to all away games, and specifically during home wins compared to away wins. There were no significant differences in MRP against stronger or weaker strength opponents or during period of fixture congestion. Positional comparison showed wide midfielders to complete more SPT than central midfielders during home wins (p < .05). All other positional differences were non-significant. Practitioners should examine the influence of contextual variables on a club and positional basis to inform individualised training schedules in support of the player development pathway.

  • Can performance indicators and skydiving experience prognosticate
competitive state anxiety in elite paratroopers'

    • Authors: Francisco José Borrego-Balsalobre, Francisco José Ortín-Montero, Félix Zurita-Ortega, Arturo Díaz-Suárez, Vicente Morales-Baños
      Pages: 23 - 36
Abstract: Competition has characteristics that position sport as a fruitful field for the study of human affective processes of interest for psychology, such as anxiety, especially in disciplines such as military parachuting due to its uniqueness. This study aimed to analyse the validity of the Spanish version of the CSAI-2R inventory through a reliable model and to determine the interrelation, both among themselves and with anxiety, of certain specific technical variables related to sports performance in parachuting. The questionnaire was supplied to 42 jumpers in the Spanish National Military Championship. The results indicate that a reliable model has been established, but it is necessary to realise a multivariate relationship between components of competitive anxiety and specific variables of military skydiver's sporting experience in competition. It would be appropriate to reflect on what other psychological and technical variables may influence the sporting performance achieved, because it is a modality that has very particular conditions compared to the rest, not only because of the space, environment and form where and how the activity itself is carried out but also because of the context in which it is framed, as a result of the peculiarities that define the group to which the competitors belong.

  • Impact of mask wearing during high-intensity exercise on post-exercise
           hemodynamics

    • Authors: Zachary Zeigler, Payton Price, Malia Nowlen, Luke Heikka, Ruthie Larson, Sara Thomasson, Anthony Acevedo
      Pages: 37 - 52
Abstract: Background: Few studies examining face mask wearing during high-intensity interval exercise (HIE) have measured blood pressure (BP) and cardiac output (Q) during exercise and none have examined these variables post-exercise. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to complete four exercise and two control conditions while wearing different face masks. Participants followed a 4x4 protocol on a cycle ergometer. Participants exercised at 85% of VO2max for 4-min, followed by a 3-min rest, repeated four times. Measurements of Q, systemic vascular resistance (SVR), and BP were measured pre-exercise for 20-min, during exercise, and postexercise for 60-min. Linear mixed models were used to detect differences between conditions. Results: Ten young (20.3 ± 1.4 yr.) male (n = 5) and female (n = 5) participants with an average BMI of 28.1 ± 7.3 kg/m2 and VO2max of 37.0 ± 7.1 ml.kg-1.min-1 completed this. There were no group differences during exercise on outcomes of Q, SVR, HR, SBP, DBP, MAP, or RPE (all p > .05). During exercise, EXS-N95 had a lower SV than CON-E (p = .014) and EXS-CL (p = .006). All mask conditions had a higher post-exercise HR than CON-E (all p > .05). Only EXS-SUR differed in post-exercise brachial SBP compared to CON-E (3.1 ± 1.6 mmHg, p < .043). Of the exercise conditions, only EXS-N95 differed from CON-E with an increase of 2.0 ± .88 mmHg for brachial DBP (p = .022) and 2.1 ± .92 mmHg for central DBP (p = .022), SV (-11.8 ± 3.5 mL.min-1, p < .001), Q (-.52 ± .26 L.min-1, p = .045), and SVR (73.7 ± 29.8 Dyn.s/cm5, p = .014). Conclusion: The current study shows that in healthy populations, wearing a face covering of any type during HIE does not impactfully change the hemodynamic response during exercise or recovery period.

  • Relationship between self-evaluative components and moderating contextual
factors among university student gymnasium exercisers

    • Authors: Francis Mundia Mwangi, Elijah Gitonga Rintaugu, Abel Toriola, Jonathan Rotich, Michael Wilson, Xiaojie Tian, Kohske Takahashi
      Pages: 53 - 67
Abstract: Regular physical activity (PA) is known to improve psychological traits such as self-esteem (SE), body image (BI) and body satisfaction (BS). However, there are apparent mixed reports about the role of PA in promoting psychosocial wellbeing and moderating factors. This study investigated the relationship between SE, BI and BS of gym exercisers at a university and contextual factors of exercise principles; frequency, duration and types of activity, and participants’ demographics variables. Rosenberg self-esteem scale, Body image questionnaire and Body satisfaction Scale were administered among randomly selected gym exercisers (n = 92); 60(65.2%) males and 32(34.8 %.) females, aged between 15 and 30 years. Self-esteem showed significant correlations with BS (r = 0.237, p = .023) and with BI (r = 0.287, p = .006). Body satisfaction mean scores were significantly different across duration of exercise sessions (F=3.672, p=.008) in favour of 1.5-hour gym sessions compared to longer or shorter ones. Substantial differences were also observed in BI across favourite physical activities (F = 3.224, p = .026) with post hoc showing Zumba scoring highest. Regression analyses showed significant influence of exercise type (Adjusted R Squared = .040, Beta = .239, p = .023) and gender (Adjusted R Squared = .054, Beta = .239, p = .023) on BI scores. Type and duration of exercise and gender have moderating effects on self-evaluative components. Gym instructors and stakeholders should consider duration for each type of exercise in fitness programmes to optimise participants’ wellbeing. Exercise counselling regarding participants’ self-evaluative components and how these could affect their mental health and overall quality of life in different social-cultural settings need to be explored in future studies.

  • Trends of the fast game in men’s EHF European handball championships

    • Authors: Dimitris Hatzimanouil, Afroditi Lola, George Giatsis, José Antonio Pérez-Turpin, Vasilis Scandalis, Magdalini Kepesidou
      Pages: 68 - 82
Abstract: The aim of this study was to measure the effect of fast play on a handball team’s performance by assessing ranking in three European Men’s Championships (Euro 2018, 2020, 2022) as a dependent variable. The independent variables indicating fast play were the ranking of the team in the tournament, total fast breaks (TFB) per match played, successful fast breaks (SFB) per match played, total fast throw-offs (TFTO) per match played, and successful fast throw-offs (SFTO) per match played. Analyses for each tournament included descriptive statistics, correlation analyses between team ranking and TFB, SFB, TFTO, and SFTO per match played, and hierarchical regression analyses to identify whether the independent variables could predict team ranking in a tournament. TFB and SFB per match played were statistically significant predictors of tournament placement for all three European tournaments examined. Euro 2018 scored the highest team ranking prediction for both TFB and SFB. However, TFTO and SFTO per match played were not significant predictors of tournament placement in all three tournaments. In conclusion, the TFB and SFB per match played were statistically significant predictors of tournament placement.

  • Effects of menstrual cycle phases on elasticity index in female soccer
           players

    • Authors: Ángel Muñoz Aloy, Carlos Sanchis Sanz, Ángel Francisco García Fernández, Cristina Monleón
      Pages: 83 - 91
Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of the menstrual cycle on the elasticity index in female soccer players. A quasi-experimental analysis was carried out with a time series design, with a sample of 14 female players between 16 and 23 years (18.50 ± 1.74) where during all the phases of a menstrual cycle they had to perform the Squat Jump and Counter Movement Jump tests in order to calculate the elasticity index. Descriptive, normality, sphericity test and a repeated measures ANOVA with a Bonferroni type Post-Hoc test were performed. The most relevant aspect was that there were significant differences in the elasticity index between the Follicular Phase and the Ovulatory Phase, obtaining higher percentages of elasticity index in this second phase, but there were no significant differences between the other phases. The results obtained determine that the elasticity index is higher in the Ovulatory Phase than in the rest of the phases and this could be mainly due to the oestrogen peak and that there are no significant differences in the Luteal Phase demonstrates the relevance of this hormone with respect to explosive strength and the elasticity index. This study will allow the use of strategies with the intention of being able to optimally place the loads during plyometric training in reference to the menstrual cycle. While menstrual discomfort is subjective, they should be taken into account. Conversely, the elasticity index provides a reliable objective data that assists in designing personalized training programs.

  • Changes in the perceived quality by undergraduate students of a university
           sports service

    • Authors: Daniel Duclos-Bastías, Pedro Ponciano Nuñez, Rodrigo Yáñez-Sepúlveda, Frano Giakoni-Ramírez
      Pages: 92 - 101
Abstract: University physical activity is vital when talking about healthy lifestyle habits within a population which often does not have enough time or adequate space to do it for different reasons such as academics, timetables, etc. Because of this, having a quality sports service within the university is fundamental when motivating students to participate in physical activity. This research aimed to measure the quality levels perceived by students who use the sports services offered by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. This study was framed under a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope. The sample consisted of 697 university students. Information was collected using the adapted version of the SERVQUAL instrument. The results reveal that the student’s perception in dimensions related to the treatment by the teachers in charge of the workshops and activities, such as responsiveness and security, are satisfactory, with results close to excellence. To a lesser extent, empathy and part service reliability when participating in the workshops offered. Finally, the great deficit is found in the dimension of tangible elements, showing problems of modernity in spaces and the dissemination of effective means of communication.

  • Effect of visual stimuli on the jumping ability of amateur soccer players

    • Authors: Guillermo Mateos, Manuel Sillero-Quintana, Carlos Balsalobre-Fernández
      Pages: 102 - 116
Abstract: In soccer, high levels of strength applied in short durations are crucial for various performance-related actions such as accelerations, decelerations, sprints, jumps, and changes of direction. These actions often occur in the presence of visual stimuli that require attention and rapid reaction. Recent training methodologies propose integrating visual stimuli to enhance sport-specific physical abilities. However, limited research has investigated the impact of visual stimuli on explosive force production abilities. Therefore, this study aimed to analyse the influence of reacting to non-specific visual stimuli on seated and counter-movement vertical jump performance. Seventeen senior amateur soccer players (age: 22.9 ± 2.8 years; height: 172.0 ± 8.5 cm; weight: 71.1 ± 7.3 kg) were recruited as participants for this study. Participants performed seated vertical jumps (SJsit-90º) and counter-movement vertical jumps (CMJ) under two conditions: with reaction to a visual stimulus (REAC) and without reaction (VOL). The order of the conditions was counterbalanced across participants. The statistical analysis revealed a significant decrease in the height of SJsit-90º in the REAC condition compared to the VOL condition (HeightVOL-REAC = 1.88 ± 2.16 cm; p < .001). Although a similar trend was observed, no significant differences were found in CMJ height between conditions (HeightVOL-REAC = 0.70 ± 0.63 cm; p = .277). It is concluded that the inclusion of non-specific visual stimuli to react to significantly and negatively affects the ability to apply force measured through seated vertical jumps. These findings emphasize the importance of considering the potential detrimental effects of external visual stimuli on explosive force production when designing training protocols for soccer players.

           well-being in physical education teachers

    • Authors: Rubén Fernández-García, Félix Zurita-Ortega, Eduardo Melguizo Ibáñez, José Luis Ubago-Jiménez
      Pages: 117 - 129
Abstract: The teaching profession is currently at high psychological risk, with a large number of teachers showing high levels of anxiety, depression and stress. It has been shown that through the practice of physical activity the occurrence of these disruptive states can be prevented. The main purpose of this research is to develop and evaluate a multi-group equation model of the effect of anxiety, depression and stress on psychological well-being as a function of weekly physical activity time. An ex post facto, descriptive and comparative study is presented in a sample of 4117 teachers. The instruments used for data collection were the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale, the Psychological Well-being Scale and a questionnaire to collect socio-demographic variables. The results show that leading an active lifestyle helps to reduce the effect of anxiety, depression and stress on well-being. The conclusion is that being physically active helps to reduce the effect of disruptive states on well-being.

  • The effect of combat sports experience, competition engagement, sex, and
           age on grit

    • Authors: Leandro Lorenço-Lima
      Pages: 130 - 138
Abstract: Grit is expressed as hard work aiming to conquer life challenges while sustaining interest and effort throughout long periods and despite failures, adversities, and plateaus. Several benefits have been established in the literature related to higher levels of grit, including lower depression, higher life satisfaction, higher academic and financial outcomes, and lower criminality. As vigorous activities, combat sports have been shown to influence grit. The present study aimed to explore the potential correlations between grit and age, combat sports experience, and competitive engagement and compare group differences in grit based on sex, age, competition engagement, and combat sports experience. In this cross-sectional quantitative study, 329 combat sports practitioners ranging from 18 to 57 years of age responded to the grit scale and additional demographic information. Findings demonstrate positive correlations between grit and age, combats sports experience and competition engagement. Group comparison showed higher grit in the 38-47 and 48-57 groups than the 18-27 group, higher grit in the >5 years of experience group compared to the <2 and 2-5 groups. Moreover, the >4 competitions per year group showed higher grit than the 1-4 group but not than the non-competitors group. In conclusion, this study suggests that age, combat sports experience, and competitive engagement contribute to the development of grit in combat sports practitioners.

  • Effect of pass and shoot efficiency

    • Authors: Heechul Hwang
      Pages: 139 - 147
Abstract: Season rankings in football leagues are affected by the number of goals scored, shots, effective shots, and passes. Extant studies have examined the factors that affect a team’s win or lose, including fewer passes, number of successful passes, more shots, passes in opposition half, scoring efficiency, and pass efficiency. However, the factors that predict and directly affect success in football are diverse and lack consistency. This study thus investigated the factors affecting league rankings in the Italian professional football league, Serie A, and analysed them considering the efficiency of pass and shoot. The analysis confirmed that pass and shoot efficiency significantly affects victory points. Therefore, efficiency can be used as a factor that affects season rankings.

  • Physical and psychological conditions in kayaking

    • Authors: Hendri Neldi, Nasriah, Anton Komaini, Deby Tri Mario, Umar, Arsil, Willadi Rasyid
      Pages: 148 - 158
Abstract: The effect of physical condition factors such as strength and flexibility on kayaking has been widely investigated. However, little information is found regarding psychological factors such as motivation and how they are simultaneously involved. Therefore, this research aims to analyse the elements of physical (arm muscle strength and waist flexibility) and psychological (achievement motivation) conditions on the ability to row a kayak. A total of 17 male athletes in Aceh province, Indonesia, participated in this research voluntarily. Participants were athletes registered with the Indonesian Rowing Association and had participated in championships at the provincial level (22.32 ± 1.02 years, 71.56 ± 3.64 kg, 173.09 ± 2.17 cm, and BMI 23.89 ± 2.88). Each data was collected using push and pull dynamometer tests, sit and reach tests, questionnaires, and ergometer machines. The data were then analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The results showed that arm muscle strength, waist flexibility, and achievement motivation influenced kayak rowing ability (R = 0.933; F = 29.17; p < .05). Partially, the influence value of arm muscle strength was R = 0.727; F = 16.79; t = 4.09; p < .05, waist flexibility was R = 0.695; F = 14.04; t = 3.74; p < .05, and achievement motivation was R = 0.817; F = 30.13; t = 5.48; p < .05. Of these three elements, motivation was reported as the most dominant element, followed by arm muscle strength and waist flexibility. Finally, it is important for coaches, athletes, and practitioners to consider these elements in achieving optimal rowing ability.

  • The influence of the auto-training technique on the excretion of
catecholamine in archers under different psychological states

    • Authors: Bogdan Vynogradskyi, Mariya Sybil , Marta Bura, Anastasiya Husenko, Iryna Husenko, Maryana Ripak
      Pages: 159 - 168
Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse the improvement of the archer's readiness based on a specialized psycho-regulatory training technique using biochemical methods of controlling the excretion of catecholamines. The sample consisted of fifteen archers (KMS and MS) aged between 18 and 20 (mean 19.3 ± 0.28), divided into two groups (experimental and control). Before each training, the archers of the experimental group used the proposed technique of increasing the level of psychological readiness. The biochemical examination of the archers was carried out in two stages: during training and during competitions. Before physical activity, urine samples of the archers were taken, in which the content of the catecholamines was determined by the liquid chromatography in the columns. The application of the auto-training technique during the archer's meeting sessions did not change the excretion of catecholamine hormones. Whereas the systematic application of psycho-regulatory techniques during active competitions led to a decrease in the A concentration and an increase in the NA concentration in the experimental group archers (p < .001). The variance analysis established a significant contribution of the auto-training technique to changes in the excretion of Adrenalin (56.1% (p < .01)) and Noradrenaline (72.7% (p < .001)). The contribution of unaccounted factors to the performance of the archers remained significant but was unreliable. The systematic application of the method of increasing the level of psychological readiness allows you to adjust the level of catecholamines and, accordingly, positively influence the athlete's performance during active competitions.

  • Comparative analysis of the Spanish and United Kingdom sport-political
           models

    • Authors: María Esther Puga-González, Athanasios Pappous, Pedro Tomás Gómez-Píriz, Josué González-Ruíz, David Cabello-Manrique
      Pages: 169 - 182
Abstract: This research conducts a comparative study between the sports models of the United Kingdom (UK) and Spain, emphasizing the complexity of these systems and the need for a multidimensional analysis. The objective of analysing the most important characteristics and differences between the Spanish sports model and structure and the UK sports model, the leading exponent due to its efficiency in the development of sports practice and in obtaining international sports results, to determine possible improvements. To carry out this study, a comparative analysis of the sports models of both countries has been made from a political-sports perspective, and the study of the administrative-organizational structure of sport and the legal regulations that support it, through a mixed design for the analysis of different qualitative dimensions. The most significant conclusions are that in the United Kingdom, a successful transformation has been achieved with a focus on efficiency, public investment, and private partnerships, while in Spain, sporting results have been maintained without a clear strategy, suggesting the need for a re-evaluation of its model. Moreover, the stronger associative culture and a higher number of qualified professionals in the United Kingdom are significant advantages. In conclusion, the United Kingdom's sports model is considered more developed and efficient, highlighting the importance of comprehensive planning and collaboration between public and private entities as key factors for sporting success.

  • Effects of acute caffeine intake on sex hormones response and repetitions
to failure in resistance-trained females during early follicular phase

    • Authors: Mohammad AbuMoh'd
      Pages: 183 - 192
Abstract: This study investigated the acute effects of caffeine intake on sex hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, prolactin, oestradiol, and progesterone) following resistance exercise performance during the early follicular phase. In addition, the total number of failed repetitions was determined. Ten resistance-trained females performed two consecutive trials (48 h apart). Participants were randomly assigned to receive either caffeine (4 mg/kg) 1 h before exercise or a placebo, using a double-blind crossover design. Each trial included the following resistance exercises: chest press, lat pulldown, triceps pushdown, and rowing torso. Each exercise was performed in three sets of 10 repetitions at 60% of 1-RM, with a 90 s recovery interval, followed by repetitions to failure at the same intensity during the fourth set. Two-minute breaks were allocated between each exercise’s third and fourth sets of and between exercises. Blood samples were collected from each participant 1 h after the completion of each trial. Data revealed no statistical difference (p ˃ .05) in ergogenic response to caffeine on sex hormones during the early follicular phase between trials. However, serum prolactin level significantly decreased (p = .039) after caffeine intake compared to the placebo. The overall repetitions to failure were significantly higher (p = .023) in the caffeine trial than in the placebo. In conclusion, caffeine intake (4 mg/kg) 1 h before multiple resistance exercises had no effect on sex hormone responses during the early follicular phase, except for prolactin. However, the overall repetitions until failure were higher following caffeine intake.

  • Prediction of 10 km running time by physical and training characteristics
           in recreational runners

    • Authors: Sutima Suwankan, Suriyan Suwankan, Apiluk Theanthong, Supatcharin Kemarat
      Pages: 193 - 201
Abstract: Running is a common exercise that many people perform as their leisure activity. With increasing numbers of recreational runners, understanding the associations between physical and training characteristics and running time would provide useful knowledge for improving running performance. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate whether physical and training characteristics correlated with running time in recreational runners. Sixty recreational runners participated in this study. They were requested to run 10 km on track and provide details of their physical and weekly training characteristics. Relationships between physical and training characteristics and running time were analysed by using Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) and the influence of the physical and training characteristics on the running time was tested by using multiple regression. Results showed that running time was significantly correlated with body mass index (BMI; r = 0.275), training day (r = -0.583), training distance (r = -0.605), training duration (r = -0.446), running experience (r = -0.275), and numbers of participation in mini-marathon race (r = -0.311). These variables could predict 57% of variances in the running time. Among all variables, the weekly training distance showed the greatest effect on running time. It can be concluded that physical and training characteristics contributed to the changes in running time. With long distance and more days of weekly training, recreational runners would achieve a shorter running time. Furthermore, increasing the years of experiences and numbers of running races would provide beneficial effect on running performance.

  • Investigation of time-motion characteristics of work load and
physiological load in different regimes of small-sided games in soccer

    • Authors: Olcay Mulazimoglu, Abdullah Kartoglan
      Pages: 202 - 210
Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the work-load and physiological-load on the players of continuous and intermittent small-sided games (SSGs) in terms of time-motion. Twelve soccer players (age: 20.75 ± 1.60 years; body mass: 72.17 ± 5.20 kg; height: 179.42 ± 5.96 cm) participated in the research voluntarily. SSGs were played in two regimens, continuous (SSGc) and intermittent (SSGi). Wearable GPS device was used to measure the work-load and physiological-load of the players during the SSGs. Five different intensity zones were determined according to the maximal heart rate (HRmax) percentage of the players. Time, HR, running distance and running speed of the players were recorded separately for five zones during SSGs. Comparative analysis was performed between both SSGs. Players' average HR (p = .002) and player load (p = .037) indicators were significantly higher in SSGi than SSGc during the game. There was no significant difference between SSGi and SSGc in total running distance, sprint distance and maximal speed (p > .05). The most crucial finding of the study is that zone-5 activity duration was found to be significantly higher than SSGc in SSGi (p = .023). During SSGc, it was observed that the physiological responses of the players spent time in zone-4, which is the submaximal level, rather than in zone-5, which is the high-intensity activity level. As a result, a higher physiological load at maximal intensity occurred in SSGi compared to SSGc on players. SSGi created a more fluctuating heart rate. While both methods created a physiological load at a sub-maximal density on players, SSGi created a more intense anaerobic load level.

  • Body composition and physical fitness of different blood groups in Olympic
           athletes

    • Authors: Omar Saad Ahmed, Saif Saad Ahmed, Rasha Talib Dheyab
      Pages: 211 - 219
Abstract: Background and Aim: A comprehensive understanding of an athlete's physical fitness and overall condition is paramount in professional sports, especially wrestling. Such insights are instrumental in talent identification, sculpting training regimens, and, ultimately, ensuring success on the field. Given this backdrop, this study embarked on a mission to meticulously investigate the variances in body composition and diverse elements of physical fitness among the elite Olympic athletes of Iraq. The emphasis was on delineating correlations or disparities based on their blood groups. Methods: Adopting a robust semi-experimental approach, this research incorporated 40 young, spirited wrestlers from Baghdad. These athletes represented a spectrum of blood groups: A, B, AB, and O, all unified by a positive RH factor. Spanning from January 2021 to May 2023, post the acquisition of informed consent; these participants underwent rigorous laboratory evaluations. These assessments delved into determining their blood group, deciphering body fat percentages, BMI metrics, and gauging attributes like endurance, muscle tenacity, speed, agility, anaerobic prowess, and peak oxygen consumption. To ensure data integrity, analyses were diligently performed using the renowned SPSS22 software, with a stringent significance benchmark of .05. Results: The findings were revelatory. Clear-cut distinctions were evident across the four blood group categories (p < .05). Athletes with the O blood group consistently eclipsed their counterparts, while the AB group presented a contrasting picture, trailing in most metrics. Conclusion: The research underscores that an athlete's blood group might significantly determine their physical composition and performance capabilities, especially in Olympic sports.
