      Pages: 1 - 6
Abstract: Analysing the bibliometric or scientometric aspect of any field of knowledge is very prime to understand the research trends in this dimension. Present study is an attempt to gain an insight into the research output of a medicinal plant (Crocus Sativus/Saffron). In order to assess the research output on Crocus Sativus or Saffron Web of Science database was used to extract the data. The results depict that Iran (700, 28.31%) is the leading nation followed by Peoples Republic of China (223; 9.02%) and the others regarding nature of access open access (607; 24.91%) is less highlighted and closed access (1829; 75.08%) more, the calculated values of relative growth rate and doubling time depict an  inverse relationship between the two. With regard to medium of communication articles are highly preferred and English language dominates the scene after analysing the linguistic parameter.

Abstract: Korku Tribe is one of the poorer and most deprived tribal group in India mostly residing in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh region. The Korku tribe resides majorly in the Melghat region of Maharashtra which is very much famous for the backwardness in development. The lower socio-economic status has impacted them very badly as most of these tribes are malnourished and the cases of child mortality is very common. The Korku tribes of this region still do not have the proper health care facilities due to which their indigenous medicinal practices are very common. To maintain the better health among Korku tribes of Melghat region, Amravati, the people belonging to this community uses plants, leaf, stems, seeds, fruits, roots etc. This paper will discuss the use of indigenous medicinal practices which are practiced by the Korku Tribe of Melghat, Amravati region.

  • Ashtam Maas: Masanumasik Garbha Vruddhi Systemic Review of Garbhavkranti
           W.R.T 8 th Month

Authors: Sujata Kotwal, Nilesh V. Kasae
      Pages: 14 - 17
Abstract: Ayurveda is ancient science of life; many ancient texts explain Ayurveda in detail. Acharya Sushruta, who is father of surgery has described Anatomy in detail. In Garbhavkranti chapter, he has elaborated developmental embryology from 1st to 9th month. While studying 8th month development, we found statement which needs literary review to clear the concept. One of them is the development in the 8Th month of pregnancy, according to Acharya Sushrut in eight month of pregnancy, Oja i.e. maternal nutrients are not stable. If the labour takes place in this period due to unstable Oja (AiS4r Aoj) and curse of Nairutya Graha (negative energy) the foetus will not survive. For that Sushruta suggested to offer Mansa Odan to avoid curse of this Grah. Acharya Charaka has stated the Mlan and Mudit state of mother and foetus due to unstable Oja. He had also mentioned the critical condition of labour. According to Asthang Hridaya, the quotation of 8th month development of foetus, is compilation of versus from Charaka and Shushrut. Only Ashtang hrudaya differs where he mentioned the chances of survival of mother during labour is also doubtful. Full term infants are estimated to have an alveolar storage full of approximately 100 mg/kg of body weight of surfactant, while preterm infant have an estimated 4 to 5 mg/kg body weight at birth. As in preterm infant there is no sufficient quantity of surfactants there are more chances of foetal respiratory distress which ultimately decreases the chances of survival.

Authors: Naina Burdak, Sunita Meena, Mahendra Prasad
      Pages: 18 - 22
Abstract: Dhatu is regarded as the primary building blocks of the organism in Ayurveda. The number of Dhatu is seven. They serve as entry points for the dosha, which carry out the physiological functions, and are crucial to comprehending the interactions between the body's tissues. Beginning with Rasa Dhatu and concluding with Sukra Dhatu (reproductive fluids), sapta Dhatu are created in a manner akin to a progressive evolutionary metamorphosis. Each successive dhatu feeds the one above it, serving as a substrate for the others. The food keeps the perpetually Dhatu is regarded as the primary building blocks of the organism in Ayurveda. The number of Dhatu is seven. They serve as entry points for the dosha, which carry out the physiological functions, and are crucial to comprehending the interactions between the body's tissues. Each successive dhatu feeds the one above it, serving as a substrate for the others. This suggest that the Dhatu are interdependent on one another because an imbalance in one of them will result in sickness. Sharir is the adhistana of Roga, so these are produced in 3 ways-Kostha ashrita, Sakha ashrita and Marma asthi sandhi ashrit. Kostha ashrit rogas are sadhya in nature whereas other two are difficult to cure therefore the distribution and prognosis point of view are the focus of this paper.

Abstract: Syzygium cumini is a medicinally important plant widely used in traditional systems of medicines specifically Ayurveda followed in India. The seeds of the plant are recognized in various bio medicines for the treatment of diabetes. It is reasonable source of natural antioxidants used in dietary supplement of food and bioactive substances in cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. In the present study, Syzygium cumini (jamun) seeds were collected from the Alagar Kovil Hills and Procured from local Madurai central market of Madurai district, Tamil Nadu. The seed extract was analysed for checking the antibacterial activity and phytocomponents of seed extract by High Performance Liquid Chromatography technique. Different solvents like acetone, methanol, ethanol, butanol, petroleum ether and distilled water used for extracting the seed extract. The inhibition efficiency of seed extract was treated with bacterial pathogens namely: Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Among these solvents, methanol was a suitable one for extracting the phytocompounds efficiently. The methanolic seed extract of Syzygium cumini analysed with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and it reported that the presence of phenolic compounds specifically gallic acids in the crude extract. The presence of such compounds in Syzygium cumini seeds which confirmed that the positive effect of seed component could control the growth of bacterial pathogens under laboratory condition.

  • Kumkuma Nays for Migraine: Randomized Double-blind Study with an Insight
           into Vatavriddhi and Caloric Values

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Surendra Vedpathak, Vaibhav Bapat, Kunal Patel, Siddharth Sharma
      Pages: 36 - 44
Abstract: Introduction: Ardhavbhedaka Roga of Ayurveda can be correlated with migraine. Exaggeration of Vata plays the most important role in the pathogenesis of pain. We used a model of low caloric values, as it is suitable and conclusive for the assessment of Vatavriddhi. As per Sharangadhar Samhita, Kumkuma (saffron) Nasya (nasal administration) is said to be effective in Ardhavabhedaka (migraine), owing to the exaggerated of Vata and Rakta. Aim: Therefore, this study was aimed at checking the efficacy of Kumkuma Nasya on Ardhavbhedaka Roga with special reference to caloric values of Vatavriddhi (pain model). Settings and Design: This research is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-control trial, conducted on 60 patients of migraine with lower caloric values. Methods and Material: Kumkuma Nasya 1.98 ml (1 ml in each nostril) daily up to 9 days, once a day at evening between 4 and 5 pm was administered through the nasal route as per standard operative procedure of Nasya. Headache severity levels were analysed using the visual analogue scale, and caloric values of Vatavriddhi were analyzed on 0th, 10th and 40th day. Statistical Analysis Used: Test of proportionality and ‘T’ test were used for data analysis. Results: Statistically significant reduction were observed in the pain level (Ativedana) of patients with Ardhavabhedaka Roga in visual analogue scale, statistically significant increase in caloric values was observed in the experimental group. Conclusions: 1.98 ml (32 Bindu) dose of Kumkuma Nasya relives pain in migraine. Also, it was found significant to increase in caloric values of Vatavriddhi.
