Authors:David Mugendi, Caleb Mireri, Grace Muraya Pages: 97 - 121 Abstract: Oil was discovered in Kenya in 2012 in South Lokichar Basin. Effective environmental governance shall result to numerous socio-economic and environmental benefits to the locals around the oil fields and vice versa. This study aimed at reviewing the effectiveness of policy, legal and institutional framework governing environmental management in the oil fields of Kenya and make recommendations on how it can be enhanced. The study adopted systematic document review and case study research designs. The study established that Kenya has a robust environmental policy and legal framework, with glaring gaps in the areas of drill waste management, oil drilling technologies, gas flaring and dry wells restoration. Additionally, the study observed ineffective enforcement of the existing environmental regulations by the lead agencies around the oil fields resulting to environmental challenges. There is a need to develop oil extraction specific environmental management legislations and enhance the capacity of the lead agencies to ensure effective enforcement. Authors:Benedetta Esposito, Ornella Malandrino, Maria Rosaria Sessa, Daniela Sica Pages: 122 - 138 Abstract: Over the past decade, the agri-food sector has become increasingly important for achieving sustainable development goals. In this context, as a bridge between production and consumption, the restaurant sector acquires a pivotal role in accelerating the implementation of sustainable practices, reducing environmental impacts, and maximising the energy performance of organisations. In this scenario, the life cycle assessment emerges as the most suitable methodology for the assessment of environmental performance. Moreover, the results provided by the life cycle assessment analysis should support sustainability managers in decision-making processes. However, only a few contributions concerning the adoption of this assessment tool in the restaurant industry have been detected in the literature. In order to fill this gap, this paper performs a systematic literature review, analysing the state of the art regarding the implementation of the life cycle assessment in the restaurant industry, and providing future research directions. Authors:Nelvin XeChung Leow, Jayaraman Krishnaswamy Pages: 139 - 153 Abstract: The present study focuses on improving road smart mobility to reduce air pollution, and consequently, less damage to the environment. A conceptual research framework has been developed to study the travel behaviour performance (TBP) of road commuters. About 380 respondents have been included in the present study to examine the relationship between the predictors of TBP using structural equation modelling techniques. The significant findings reveal that environment consciousness and no deviation in driving influence positively influence TBP, while the factor habit, negatively influences TBP. Avoiding ancestors' practices of having individual vehicles for privacy and not be influenced by the behaviour practices of others while driving will solve most of the recurring problems. The ultimate consequences of the pandemic have improved air pollution and environmental safety, but it is inevitable for carbon emission to increase again for commercial growth which envisages the importance of the present study. Authors:Nicodemus Osei Owusu, Abraham Ansong, Agnes Tweneboah Mensah Pages: 154 - 175 Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to explore whether the policy change of moving from government to governance in addressing environmental issues is a solution to the problem or not based on the perspectives of environmental policy actors at Amansie West District in Ghana. The study method was qualitative with 16 interviewees who were purposively selected. The results of the study indicated that the policy actors perceived the policy shift to be a solution because it has several benefits which include guaranteeing collaborative efforts among actors, providing credibility, promoting the sharing of innovative ideas, and ensuring financial sustainability. However, there are challenges such as different actors with different motives, different ways of understanding problems and situations, and differences in resources endowments among the actors. All these contribute to mistrust, poor coordination and poor communication. Nonetheless, it was concluded that it was worth having the policy shift. Authors:Fabio Fortuna, Grazia Chiara Elmo, Marzia Traverso, Gabriella Arcese Pages: 176 - 193 Abstract: The pandemic has resulted in the closure and failure of many tourism companies, changed the relationship of tourism with sustainability and had devastating effects on tourism. Therefore, the purpose of this document is to explore the evolution of resilience and sustainability studies in the tourism sector by including the COVID-19 variable in the analysis. To answer the research questions, the authors conducted a systematic review of the literature using 171 research papers published in international journals in recent years as input data. The qualitative analysis of the evaluation of our work was supplemented by quantitative analysis conducted using statistical criteria and bibliometric indicators. The results show how this challenge can be considered as an opportunity to reform the economic and social systems by offering tourism the opportunity to relaunch itself in a sustainable way by freeing itself from environmental degradation and aggravated global climatic conditions. The contribution of this study to the existing research is that it clarifies the evolutionary development of COVID-19 research and its link with environmental and sustainable factors.
