- Yield components in elephant grass (Cenchrus purpureus) subjected to
different concentrations of sodium zide
Abstract: RESUMEN En Paraguay, el pasto elefante (Cenchrus purpureus) es utilizado para alimentación del ganado, principalmente para el vacuno; ya sea bajo pastoreo, corte y acarreo o ensilaje, esto debido, a su potencial productivo, pudiendo alcanzar 36.000 kg/ha/año de materia seca, en condiciones óptimas para el cultivo. En el presente trabajo se evalúa el efecto de diferentes concentraciones de ázida sódica (NaN3), en distintos componentes del rendimiento del pasto elefante, para determinar las concentraciones que afectan estos parámetros y obtener al menos un genotipo con características diferentes al parental. Las dosis de ázida sódica empleadas fueron: 0,15; 0,30; 0,45; 0,60; 0,75; 0,90; 1,00; 1,20 mM. Los parámetros evaluados fueron: altura de la planta, diámetro del tallo, número de rebrote, materia fresca y materia seca. Los resultados indican que hubo diferencias significativas del efecto de algunos parámetros con las dosis empleadas; y hay genotipos individualizados que muestran características diferentes. Con esta metodología, con la obtención de al menos un genotipo diferente, éste puede ser utilizado como material de partida o parental para mantener la variabilidad.ABSTRACT In Paraguay, elephant grass (Cenchrus purpureus) is used to feed livestock, mainly cattle; either under grazing, cut and carry or silage, this due to its productive potential, being able to reach 36,000 kg/ha/year of dry matter, in optimal conditions for cultivation. In the present work, the effect of different concentrations of sodium azide (NaN3), on different components of elephant grass yield, was evaluated to determine the concentrations that were close to these parameters and obtain at least one genotype with characteristics different from the parent. The doses of sodium azide used were: 0.15; 0.30; 0.45; 0.60; 0.75; 0.90; 1.00; 1.20mM. The evaluating parameters were: plant height, stem diameter, regrowth number, fresh matter and dry matter. The results indicate that there were significant differences in the effect of some parameters with the doses used; and there are individualized genotypes that show different characteristics. With this methodology, by obtaining at least one different genotype, it can be used as starting or parental material to maintain preference.
- Tipificación y evaluación de la sensibilidad antimicrobiana de cepas de
Campylobacter jejuni y Campylobacter coli provenientes de pollos
parrilleros del Bajo Chaco - Paraguay, 2018 - 2020.
Abstract: RESUMEN. La campilobacteriosis (infección por Campylobacter) es la zoonosis de transmisión alimentaria más comúnmente reportada en la mayoría de los países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo. La principal fuente de infección para los seres humanos es la manipulación y/o consumo de carne de pollo mal cocida. El objetivo de este estudio fue tipificar y evaluar la sensibilidad antimicrobiana de las cepas de Campylobacter spp. a partir de muestras de pollos (hisopado cloacal) de producción intensiva. Se analizaron un total de 480 muestras provenientes de dos granjas ubicadas en el Departamento de Presidente Hayes del Paraguay; de cada granja se muestrearon seis lotes en diferentes días (6 muestreos seriados). Del total de muestras analizadas se obtuvieron 54 muestras positivas (11.25%), confirmadas por cultivo microbiológico y por detección de ADN mediante la técnica dela reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR). Campylobacter jejuni (96%) fue la especie aislada con mayor frecuencia en comparación a C. coli (4%). El 100 % de las cepas aisladas fueron sensibles a la eritromicina y tetraciclina, por el contrario, se observa un 22 % de cepas resistentes a la ciprofloxacina.ABSTRACT. Campylobacteriosis (Campylobacter infection) is the most commonly reported foodborne zoonosis in most developed and developing countries. The main source of infection for humans is the handling and / or consumption of undercooked chicken meat. The objective of this study was to typify and evaluate the antimicrobial sensitivity of the Campylobacter strains from samples of chickens (cloacal swab) of intensive production. Four hundred and eighty (480) samples from two farms located in the Department of President Hayes of Paraguay were analyzed. Six lots were sampled from each farm on different days (6 serial samplings). Of the total samples analyzed, 54positive samples were obtained (11,25%), confirmed by microbiological culture and by DNA detection using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. Campylobacter jejuni (96%) was the most frequently isolated species compared to C. coli (4%). One hundred percent (100%) of the isolated strains were sensitive to erythromycin and tetracycline, on the contrary, 22% of strains resistant to ciprofloxacin were observed.
- Association of the feline gingivostomatitis complex with the feline
immunodeficiency virus and the feline leukemia virus
Abstract: RESUMEN: El presente estudio fue realizado con el fin de determinar la relación existente entre el Complejo Gingivitis Estomatitis Felino (CGEF) y las infecciones por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia felina (VIF) y el virus de la leucemia felina (ViLeF). Para tal efecto fueron utilizados 22 animales de la especie felina, sin distinción de raza, sexo ni edad, con o sin sintomatología de Complejo Estomatitis Gingivitis Felina que acudieron a consulta a la Clínica Veterinaria Demovet de la Ciudad de Asunción, y al Hospital Veterinario del Departamento de Clínicas Veterinarias de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción, con masas bucales. Los animales fueron sometidos a anestesia y biopsia de las masas, además de muestreos serológicos para inmunodeficiencia felina (VIF) y el virus de la leucemia felina (ViLeF). Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que 13 felinos presentaron por histopatología, componentes del CGEF, y la serología demostró 6 positivos a VIF y 2 a ViLeF, no encontrando relación asociación entre las patologías estudiadas (p=0,4861)SUMMARY: The present study was carried out in order to determine the relationship between the Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complex (CGEF) and the infections caused by the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and the feline leukemia virus (FeLV). For this purpose 22 animals of the feline species were used, without distinction of race, sex or age, with or without symptoms of Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complex that came to the Clínica Veterinaria Demovet of the City of Asunción and the Veterinary Hospital from the Department of Veterinary Clinics of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of Asunción, with oral masses. The animals were subdued to anesthesia and biopsy of the masses, in addition to serological sampling for feline immunodeficiency (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). The results obtained showed that 13 felines presented CGEF components by histopathology, and the serology showed 6 positives to FIV and 2 to FeLV, finding no association between the pathologies studied (p = 0.4861).
- Automated spawning and fertilization system to obtain alevins of Pacú
(Piaractus mesopotamicus) in Paraguay
Abstract: RESUMEN Las especies autóctonas que habitan las cuencas hídricas del Paraguay se reproducen en medios acuáticos controlados a través de la inducción hormonal, la cual se realiza en laboratorios con diferentes técnicas y protocolos. Hasta el presente se ha utilizado la técnica de extrusión para el desove y producción de alevines en los centros de cría de las especies de importancia económica. El presente trabajo consistió en la implementación del sistema automatizado de desove y fertilización utilizando al pacú (Piaractus mesopotamicus) en etapa de maduración en estanques. El objetivo fue evaluar el sistema con dicha especie a través del desove, fertilización y horas grado. El mismo consistió en 3 unidades conectadas mediante tuberías; de modo que los huevos fertilizados sean transportados automáticamente desde el estanque de desove a la red de incubación, y las larvas eclosionadas se transportan desde la red de incubación al estanque de cría (creado por Fu- Guang Liu en Taiwán), en el trabajo se utilizaron progenitores de pacú; 51 hembras (3,2 kg - 3,7 kg) y 122 machos (2,6 Kg -2,7 kg). El desove osciló entre el 96% y el 100%, siendo la fertilización de entre el 61% al 76.6%, y las horas grado fueron de 174 a 270. La presente investigación demostró que el sistema automatizado de desove y fertilización puede ser utilizado en la obtención de alevines de pacú criados en cautiverio , existiendo suficientes evidencias de que la utilización del sistema beneficia la sobrevivencia y la reutilización de las matrices generándose mejores resultados.ABSTRACT The native species that inhabit the watersheds of Paraguay reproduce in controlled aquatic environments through hormonal induction, which is carried out in laboratories with different techniques and protocols. Until now, the extrusion technique has been used for the spawning and production of fingerlings in the breeding centers of species of economic importance. The present work consisted in the implementation of the automated spawning and fertilization system using the pacú (Piaractus mesopotamicus) in the maturation stage in ponds. The objective was to evaluate the system with this species through spawning, fertilization and degree hours. It consisted of 3 units connected by pipes; so that the fertilized eggs are automatically transported from the spawning pond to the incubation net, and the hatched larvae are transported from the incubation net to the rearing pond (established by Fu- Guang Liu in Taiwan), in the work wast used pacu parents; 51 females (3.2 kg - 3.7 kg) and 122 males (2.6 kg -2.7 kg). Spawning ranged between 96% and 100%, fertilization being between 61% and 76.6%, and degree hours were from 174 to 270. This research showed that the automated spawning and fertilization system can be used to obtain pacu fingerlings raised in captivity, there being sufficient evidence that the use of the system benefits the survival and reuse of the broodstock, generating better results.
- Major minerals and trace elements in fresh and sea water fish meat
Abstract: RESUMEN. El pescado es un alimento de origen animal, considerado un exponente fundamental de una dieta saludable, con nutrientes altamente biodisponibles, en especial los macrominerales y elementos traza; muy accesible para la población de países pobres y en vías de desarrollo. El objetivo de esta revisión fue recabar información sobre la composición de minerales mayoritarios y elementos traza en carne de peces de diferentes especies, tanto de agua dulce como de mar. Se evidenció una gran variación tanto de los contenidos de macroelementos como de los trazas; según las especies, tamaño y ecosistemas estudiados. Los valores medios, expresados en mg/100 g de MS, fueron: Na: 147.5; K:614.5; Ca: 653.2; Mg: 228.3; P: 288; y para los microelementos como Fe: 3.25; Cu: 1.85; Zn: 4.33 y Mn: 12.6. Se concluye que las especies de pescado pequeñas, que se consumen con órganos y esqueleto resultan excelentes fuentes de minerales, constituyendo una alternativa de alto aporte de micronutrientes. La pesca sustentable y la acuicultura son prácticas que deben ser fomentadas por políticas públicas, sobre todo en países pobres de Asia, África y América Latina.ABSTRACT. Fish is a food of animal origin, considered a fundamental exponent of a healthy diet, with highly bioavailable nutrients, especially macrominerales and trace elements; very accessible for the population of poor and developing countries. The aim of this review was to evaluate the composition of major minerals and trace elements in fish meat of different species, both freshwater and seawater. A great variation was evidenced both in the contents of major and trace elements; according to the species, size and ecosystems studied. The mean values, expressed in mg/100 g of DM, were: Na: 147.5; K: 614.5; Ca: 653.2; Mg: 228.3; P: 288; and for microelements such as Fe: 3.25; Cu: 1.85; Zn: 4.33 and Mn: 12.6. It is concluded that small fish species, which are consumed with organs and skeleton, are excellent sources of minerals, constituting an alternative with a high contribution of micronutrients. Sustainable fishing and aquaculture are practices that should be promoted by public policies, especially in poor countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
