  • Optical trapping force estimation for the trapped nanowire in optical
           tweezer by Shack Hartmann sensor

      Abstract: Measurement of trapping force with Shack Hartmann sensor, which is done in this paper, offers many advantages. It opens a way for phase and force measurement at the same time. In line alignment, correcting optical beam aberration, OPD and nonlinear refractive index measurement of the trapped particle is easily achievable with phase measurement. The new method is as accurate as old methods and has high precision since it can be evaluated by a single measurement of Shack Hartmann sensor in millisecond. Also mapping laser beam spot in trapping site may lead to further discovery in the potential well studies.

  • Probe measurements of a plasma hollow cathode discharge used as a sputter
           source for copper thin film

      Abstract: A hollow cathode discharge was constructed and characterized. The discharge is produced in argon gas inside the discharge cell, which consists of a hollow cathode as a cathode and disk mesh as an anode. The electrodes were made of copper as a sputtered material. A single Langmuir probe was used to estimate the electron temperature and ion density axial distribution of the plasma generated outside the two electrodes. Copper thin films were produced on quartz and glass substrate.

  • An exposition of a road lighting model to facilitate simple estimation of
           road surface illuminance parameters for conventional system specifications
           and recommendations for retrofitting of luminaires

      Abstract: Commissioning, maintenance and revamping of energy-efficient, economical and controllable road lighting systems that satisfactorily cater to the visual requirements of pedestrians and motorists are preferable in the wake of the current global energy crisis. Installation of new road lighting systems or retrofitting of the existing ones would require careful consideration of the design configurations that would maintain road surface average illuminance, uniformity of illuminance, and diversity of illuminance levels in accordance with applicable regional, national, or international standards and guidelines. To facilitate rapid approximation of pertinent road surface illuminance parameters with a view of the prevailing road lighting practices involving common heuristic configurations, photometric simulations of road lighting were conducted in a created software model with photometric data tables of high-pressure sodium (HPS) and light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires possessing different power ratings for a specified set of luminaire mounting height, road width, pole spacing, overhang and tilt values, and a mathematical model consisting of six equations derived by multiple linear regression was propounded (coefficient of determination > 0.90) with relevant predictor variables. Moreover, a framework for LED luminaire power rating selection for retrofitting operations was proposed to assist manufacturers, electrical contractors and utility operators entrusted with such work.

  • On definition of energy flow velocity of electromagnetic waves: a new way
           to address Abraham–Minkowski controversy

      Abstract: In this work, we shall demonstrate that time-averaged stored energy density (TASED) of a circularly polarized wave is equal to zero, in addition, TASEDs of both circularly and linearly polarized waves do not directly relate to their time-averaged Poynting vector (TAPV), respectively, which indicates that the usual definition of energy flow velocity needs to be reconsidered. Noting that energy U of electromagnetic wave (photon) obtained from relativistic energy–momentum relation corresponds to transport of electromagnetic energy, combining expressions of both TAPV and time-averaged electromagnetic wave momentum density, a new definition of energy flow velocity is proposed by applying energy U instead of TASED. Furthermore, we shall show from the new definition that a rational energy flow velocity of electromagnetic wave traveling in a material medium is obtained by adopting Minkowski electromagnetic wave momentum density, which may provide a new way to further discuss the long-standing Abraham–Minkowski controversy.

      Abstract: The safe storage and transmission of data continues to be a challenge because of increasing threats to the confidentiality and integrity of information. In this paper we propose a new purpose of a security scheme by employing electro-optic modulator and Michelson interferometer. Here we have reported a new scheme of controlling the power shape function of a Gaussian optical pulse propagated through electro-optic phase modulator and nonlinear waveguide for generation of soliton. Now introducing these soliton within a Michelson interferometer where we get bright and dark fringes. The required bright fringes can be recovered and discovered by a photodetector.

  • Nonlinear interaction of quadruple Gaussian laser beams with narrow band
           gap semiconductors

      Abstract: This paper presents an investigation on nonlinear propagation of quadruple Gaussian (Q.G) laser beam in narrowband semiconductor (e.g., n-type InSb) plasmas. In the presence of laser beam, the electron fluid in the conduction band becomes relativistic that makes the medium highly nonlinear. As a result the laser beam gets self-focused. Following variational theory approach in W.K.B approximation the numerical solution of the nonlinear Schrodinger wave equation (NSWE) for the field of incident laser beam has been obtained. Particular emphasis is put on dynamical variations of beam spot size and longitudinal phase (Gouy phase). Self-trapping of the laser beam resulting from the dynamical balance between diffraction broadening and nonlinear refraction also has been investigated.

  • Joint Gabor histogram and vector graph association for aerial target
           anti-interference tracking

      Abstract: Aerial targets subjected to artificial infrared interference exhibit phenomena such as occlusion, adhesion, and similarity. The challenges in actual engineering applications include significant changes in the shape, scale, and radiation characteristics of a target due to its maneuvering and relative motion. To solve these issues, we propose an infrared object anti-interference tracking algorithm based on Gabor histogram and vector graph association. First, Gabor features are constructed, and a low-dimensional Gabor-direction histogram is established to describe the texture distribution properties of local areas. Second, the characteristics and variation laws of the frequency-domain energy distribution are utilized to improve the accuracy of the target-scale information estimation. For the partial occlusion of the target, a tracking strategy based on a high-confidence block is applied to accurately estimate the overall position of the target. In cases where the target is completely occluded, a tracking strategy based on position vector graph association is proposed. A target-bait relative position vector graph association model is established through historical position and distribution information, so as to match and predict the target location. Under the condition of interference due to an infrared decoy, the experimental results show that the accuracy and running speed of the anti-interference tracking algorithm proposed in this paper reach 90.0% and 248.2 fps, respectively, which meet the requirements of engineering applications.

  • Inseparability in parity-time-symmetric microcavities: power spectrum

      Abstract: We have theoretically described the possibility of entangled state and steerable state in parity-time-symmetric ( \({\mathcal{P}\mathcal{T}}\) -symmetric) microcavities. Temporal variation of entangled state is studied for different photon tunnelling strength and Kerr nonlinear interaction strength and also with different gain-to-loss ratio. Different entanglement criteria show that entangled state is not possible for passive-passive cavity system. But for passive-active cavity system i.e. \({\mathcal{P}\mathcal{T}}\) -symmetry system, there is possibility of entangled state and degree of entanglement is enhanced significantly and also increases with gain-to-loss ratio. The present system also exhibits asymmetric steering. These properties of the system may be used for quantum information purposes. Using fast Fourier transform, we have studied frequency spectra of the system. Number of sideband can be tuned via photon tunnelling strength between the cavities. This study shows that present system may be used as a source of sideband generation with megahertz line spacing.

  • Dynamic simulation on a dielectric micro-particle in quad-beam optic
           fibers with intersection arrangement

      Abstract: A comprehensive dynamics simulation has been presented in a quad-beam optic fiber with intersection arrangement. As the offset distance changes, the motion type of dielectric micro-particle could transform from trapping to orbital rotation. Finally, they would be repelled far away from the trapping center due to weak centripetal forces. Different from dual-beam optic fiber configuration, this intersection arrangement has much stronger trapping force to attract the suspending particles. Moreover, the cross optical trapping having misalignment could generate a vortex field with symmetric characteristics, which cause the particles carrying out circular orbital movement. This novel optic fiber arrangement is conducive to the application of particle manipulation and provides more technical support in integrated microfluidic chip.

      Abstract: Using coupled-mode approach, Raman amplification in a cell consisting of a magnetoactive doped III-V semiconductor is investigated analytically. Assuming that the origin of nonlinear interaction lies in third-order (Raman) susceptibility arising due to nonlinear current density and molecular vibrational polarization of the medium, the threshold condition for the onset of Raman amplification is determined. Well above the threshold intensity ( \(I_{{0,{\text{th}}}}\) ), the Raman amplification coefficient ( \(g_{{\text{R}}}\) ), transmitted intensity of Raman scattered Stokes mode ( \(I_{{\text{T}}}\) ), and Raman cell efficiency ( \(\beta\) ) are also determined. Numerical analysis is made for a representative crystal, viz. n-InSb crystal at 77 K duly irradiated by a pulsed CO2 laser at 10.6 μm wavelength. The effect of doping concentration ( \(n_{0}\) ), external magnetostatic field ( \(B_{0}\) ) on \(I_{{0,{\text{th}}}}\) , \(g_{{\text{R}}}\) , \(I_{{\text{T}}}\) , and \(\beta\) are explored in detail with aim to determine suitable values of these ( \(n_{0}\) and \(B_{0}\) ) controllable parameters to enhance \(g_{{\text{R}}}\) , \(I_{{\text{T}}}\) and \(\beta\) at lower \(I_{{0,{\text{th}}}}\) , and to establish the suitability of magnetoactive doped III-V semiconductors as hosts for fabrication of efficient Raman amplifiers are established.

  • Improvement in error performance of optical communication system using
           quantum detection theory

      Abstract: The photodetection classical theory is generally applied to communication systems working under optical frequencies. The recent development of non-classical theory uses photodetection statistics which require use of quantum theory. The growing interest in quantum detection techniques used in optics-based systems led to the study of quantum-based approaches in optics for improvement of various factors such as bit error rate and to examine the similarities and differences between the classical and quantum theory of optical communication. It has been observed that quantum detection technique gives more than 5 dB improvement in SNR and about 2.5 dB improvement in receiver sensitivity. This increased power budget can be used to increase the link length.

  • A high-resolution refractive index sensor of partially cleaved PCF based
           on surface plasmon resonance

      Abstract: The aim of this work is to design partially cleaved microstructured fiber refractive index sensor for detection of tiny refractive index change in water. The detection is based on surface plasmon resonance. Transfer matrix method, full-vector finite element method and analytical method are used to optimize the design of the proposed sensor for a better performance related to the materials, metal film and metal thickness. A maximum sensitivity of 4100 nm/RIU and a resolution of \(2.44\times 10^{-5}\) refractive index unit (RIU) are obtained in the case of the wavelength interrogation technique and a maximum sensitivity of 634 nm/RIU with a corresponding resolution of \(1.58\times 10^{-5}\) RIU is obtained in the case of the intensity interrogation technique.

  • Dynamic piecewise speckle temporal contrast imaging of microcirculation

      Abstract: A dynamic functional piecewise laser speckle temporal contrast imaging (PW-LSTCI) modality is proposed to show the dynamic blood flow in the macro and micro circulations. Research shows that there is always a transition point related to contact time, which separates the positive growth trend of high velocity from the negative growth trend of small velocity. It can be found that the series of transition points with the corresponding exposure time follow an exponential pattern, indicating that the increase in the exposure time is accompanied by the decrease in the value of transition point. The changes of earflap blood flow in root artery circulation induced by occlusion and reperfusion in mice are imaged to observe the existence of transition points and their effects on slow and fast dynamic blood flow imaging. The study is valuable for noninvasive imaging of microcirculation and plays an important role in dynamic functional imaging of vascular system.

  • Theoretical evidence for synchronous and multi-scroll attractors in
           coupled quantum dot light-emitting diode

      Abstract: The current research work presents an evidence on overall synchronization of loosely bound strength in chaotic systems along with a new coupled design based on dual quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QDLEDs) in order to generate n-scroll attractors. To characterize these phenomena, the researchers used a theoretical approach on the basis of time series and phase space maps, i.e., attractors. In case of coupled QDLED attractors, the phases are generally locked during synchronous regime while the amplitudes are correlated. With the proposed construction scheme, both frequency detuning and coupling strength of two systems can be tuned independently. Further, chaotic attractors with even or else odd count of scrolls can also be easily generated. The study also demonstrated distinct attractors with n scrolls obtained using coupled design.

  • Alternative study of using electro-optic Pockels cell for massive
           reduction in the intensity of central frequency by multi-passing technique

      Abstract: Pockels cell is used for the processing of light in the field of optical communication and information processing. It is used for phase and amplitude modulation of light using polarized light as a carrier signal. A polarized incident light passes through electro-optic material, and by using the nonlinear property of the electro-optic material, the light is modulated as per the requirement. Here a study is done to show the massive reduction in the intensity of central frequency of the carrier light if multi-passing technique (multi-feedback) is adopted. In this paper, the authors show the significant number of passing (feedback) for such reduction in the intensity of central frequency and this number of passing (feedback) considerably increases the power of the sideband frequencies. The whole scheme is supported by MATLAB simulation. As the biasing signal information lies only in the sideband frequency, not in the carrier frequency, indirectly the increase in the power of the sideband frequencies strengthens the modulation information to be sent for communication by the carrier light wave having the central frequencies. This is the reason for increasing the sideband intensity by decreasing the intensity of the central frequency using multi-feedback mechanism.

  • An efficient IDMA-OFDM underwater wireless communication with Reed Solomon
           and Hamming code

      Abstract: Underwater wireless communication is identified by transmission information in random water climates via wireless carriers, such as radiofrequency, and optical waves. Underwater wireless acoustic communication is a central aiding skill used in underwater monitoring with the help of sensor nodes. The sea is often surprised by its fluctuating acoustic signal transmission owing to its portable properties. Such water segments between the transmitter and the receiver are not fixed at any point. Designing Underwater Wireless communication networks is challenging as the water environment is dynamic and tough to implement for underwater applications. We describe an effective, scalable, adaptive Hybrid MIMO-OFDM solution for underwater wireless communications that uses an IDMA strategy to overcome fading limits and increase network performance. OFDM-advantages IDMA's include low-cost iterative multi-user detection, flexible rate adaptation, frequency diversity, and frequency efficiency. We used the MATLAB simulator to simulate our MIMO-OFDM approach with IDMA to alleviate channel noise and fading concerns. Our paper's main goal is divided into two sections. The first step is to connect communication features including BPSK and QAM modulation, Turbo coding, Random Inter leaver, UWMAC, and three routing protocols. We tested our IDMA MIMO-OFDM OFDM implementation with various parameters such as BER, latency, SNR, and energy consumption in the second section. Our suggested IDMA OFDM MIMO technique achieves good BER results but consumes more energy.

  • The embodiment of color elements in product packaging design

      Abstract: For a product, in addition to its quality, the packaging design is equally important. This paper briefly introduces color elements and packaging design and proposes to intelligently evaluate the color design of the packaging with the convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm. Then, an example analysis was carried out on four packaging schemes of Hongshan flowering Chinese cabbage from Wuhan Chutian Hongshan Flowering Chinese Cabbage Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. The results showed that evaluating the color design of the packaging with the CNN algorithm had high precision and recall rate, and a high F-measure score also indicated the stable comprehensive performance of the algorithm. The analysis of the four schemes demonstrated that the evaluation results of the CNN algorithm on the color design were almost consistent with the manual evaluation results and the color design of all the schemes could reflect the brand of Hongshan flowering Chinese cabbage.

  • An alternative approach for binary to decimal conversion of frequency
           encoded optical data using MZI-SOA Switch

      Abstract: The conversion of binary data to its equivalent decimal counterpart and the vice-versa is very essential and necessary for all optical/electrical computing and data processing systems. In this paper, the authors propose a new scheme for the optical conversion of frequency encoded binary data to its equivalent frequency encoded decimal form based on the optical tree architecture. This is completely associated with frequency encoding technique because of its salient advantages. The scheme is implemented with all optical nonlinear switch like Mach–Zehnder interferometer-based semiconductor optical amplifier (MZI-SOA) to get a faster conversion rate.
