Abstract: Literature is a beautiful word with rhythm and music, pronounced from the reality of each existence. From this point of view, literature is always a “revelation,” an apocalypse of human life in the face of the singular and definitive character of existence in the world. Theology, in dialogue with it, cannot pretend to be enclosed in an objective scientific language in the style of the positive sciences. According to Balthasarian theology, the relationship between theology and literature arises not from the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge but from the intrinsic necessity of its work due to the nature of divine revelation. God has expressed himself in the beautiful figure of the person of his Son, engaging in a drama and using all the resources of the language of the flesh.

Abstract: The thought of the Italian-German theologian Romano Guardini is among the most important impulses in the theological and ecclesial renewal that developed around the Second Vatican Council. As with the work of every great thinker, the reception of his ideas is conditioned by the time and place in which they are received and the people who interpret them. In this reception—of more than 50 years—the richness of his thought has been demonstrated. However, the critical disposition of his theology has not been noted, especially in his consideration of the religious phenomenon. This article seeks to contribute to the reception of this great Catholic theologian by highlighting the depth of his reflection on the religious phenomenon and, in particular, by showing how his thought constitutes a significant contribution to a critical reflection on religion. Starting from a mature work of Guardini published in 1958, Religion and Revelation, this article proposes some fundamental categories by which to understand the occurrence of religion and examine it critically and, thus, to shape a theology that contributes to its own purification and renewal.

Abstract: The controversial question of the relationship between Eckhart and Thomas Aquinas can be clarified by considering the paths of these two Dominicans, who were almost contemporaries. Both became masters at the University of Paris, but Eckhart was more oriented toward preaching in circles characterized by their deep spiritual thirst (nuns, beguines, etc.). Eckhart followed Aquinas in many respects, for example, in the conviction that there is only one truth, the exitus-reditus schema. Yet Eckhart emphasized certain ontological principles, placed himself in the perspective of God, and considered divine eternity to be a “present now.” Thus, eternal bliss is already possible. It bursts into the ground of the soul of the detached person.
