- Training Educational Assistants to Facilitate Grammatical Development of
Adolescents Who Use AAC Authors: Hallie Eckdahl, Matthew Carter, Jade Robinson Pages: 5 - 27 Abstract: AAC can enhance communication, improve academic achievement, and increase societal participation for individuals with complex communication needs. Unfortunately, many students lack access to effective interventions due to a lack of experienced professionals and stakeholders. Research suggests educational assistants can be trained to support the communication of these children, but there is a notable gap regarding adolescent students. This investigation used a single-subject, multiple-baseline design to examine the effects of an educational-assistant-delivered intervention on the morpho-syntactical productions of adolescents who require AAC. Analyses indicated that an effective communication partner-delivered intervention program can lead to gains for adolescents who use aided communication. - Pediatric Cancer: Promoting Desired School Outcomes Through Collaboration
Authors: Genevieve Howe Hay Pages: 28–4 - 28–4 Abstract: Due to medical advances, many students with pediatric cancer are able to attend school. The professional literature reflects the need for enhanced collaboration between medical and educational personnel to address the academic and health care needs of children undergoing cancer treatment and who may experience late effects throughout their academic careers. To promote effective educational services during and after treatment, it is crucial for multidisciplinary teams and families to collaborate effectively. Additionally, preservice and in-service teachers need training and support to meet the needs of students with cancer.
