Abstract: This article analyzes the use of testimony in the works of the poet mè’phàà Huber Matiúwàa in two fundamental aspects: first, according to the construction of a space of community memory against politics of fear; on the other side, in relation with the consolidation of the indigenous episteme itself, as a place of enunciation from where an ethic response to violence is proposed. Based on those aspects, we highlight the relevance and the poetic role of testimony in the development of a critical thinking regarding contemporary forms of omission, fragmentation, minorization and silencing of identity in Indigenous territories.

This study analyzes the work of the Chilean-Austrian writer Erich Rosenrauch (1931-1978) in three dimensions: dystopia, university, and sexuality. The author's aesthetic interests deal with other topics: consumerism, pornographic imagination, the origin of objects, the loss of solidarity and institutional degradation. This research identifies how Rosenrauch's narrative is not exhausted in language, exposing the problematization of psychological, social, and cultural issues within a radical literary proposal that explores human psychology and the exercise of socio-political power. The study of Rosenrauch's eight novels has been little analyzed in Literary Studies. Therefore, it is important to rescue the legacy of this writer and his relevance in Chilean narrative and, by extension, within the Ibero-American Literature of the second half of the twentieth century.

Abstract: The literature indicates that university students show deficiencies when producing disciplinary scientific texts, but it has been scarcely analyzed in the field of communication as a discipline. The aim of the study was to analyze errors in communication research articles written in Spanish by university students. It was a mixed method research in which 46 manuscripts and 46 interviews were analyzed. There were few errors in the rhetorical structure. The most frequent errors were related to punctuation, quotations, and references. Students perceive them as a consequence of the lack of formal instruction on academic writing. The need for disciplinary writing courses throughout their careers is concluded.

Abstract: The present study is focused in understanding the opinions expressed by Chileans about being immigrant in Chile in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. To this purpose, there were analyzed 481 comments posted by readers on news dealing with the relationship between immigration and covid-19, from March 22 to June 8, 2020, published on the Facebook page of the Chilean newspaper La Tercera. Anchored in the theoretical assumptions of Cognitive Linguistics and, specifically, the theory of conceptual metaphor and Critical Discourse Analysis, the metaphors contained in the corpus were analyzed by using the target domain method to identify the metaphor. The analysis revealed contempt for the immigrant through xenophobic statements, made metaphorically, predominating, above all, those of a negative nature, based on cultural and moral models.

De esta manera, el fracaso interpretativo se convierte en un fracaso ético, que persigue al protagonista hasta la resolución de la obra, en que la verdad sale a la luz “como un cadáver”.Abstract: If we consider the hermeneutic exercise in its broadest aspect -namely, as something that concerns not only the texts, but also the reading of the world-, we will discover that it plays a capital role in Roberto Bolaño’s Nocturno de Chile (2000). This paper, therefore, explores its central function throughout the novel, demonstrating that each of its sequences hides within it an unfulfilled hermeneutical duty. The characters, faced with a reality that talks to them, decide to ignore it, in order not to be forced to act and to be able to justify themselves by saying: “I didn’t see anything”. In this way, the failure of interpretation becomes an ethical failure, which pursues the protagonist until the resolution of the novel, in which the truth reveals itself “like a corpse”.

Abstract: The ten-line stanza is one of the cultural bridges that Cuba has maintained for centuries with Ibero-America. However, for years, this form of poetic creation has suffered exclusion and contempt on the island. This article documents this trend by exploring the subject matter in four cultural magazines of national scope: La Gaceta de Cuba, Revolución y Cultura, Unión and El Caimán Barbudo, during 2019. A total of 151 texts from 16 issues of these publications are analyzed. As a source of contrast, what was published in the same period by the web platform Cuba Ala Décima is sketched. In addition, editors of the publications under study and experts in this lyrical specialty were surveyed. The results corroborate the need for rectifications and counterweights in the publication agendas of printed magazines and show the diversity of approaches to the stanza in the web environment.

  • Comprehension of academic texts: Role of executive functions and
           vocabulary

Abstract: Comprehension of academic texts is often a complex activity for university students during their first year of studies. This activity may be associated with a higher cognitive demand when reading in digital support and in the presence of distractors. Thus, the general objective of this research was to analyze the role of four executive functions (inhibition, goal setting, working memory and processing speed) in the comprehension of academic texts, together with the role of vocabulary. 62 first-year university students participated in an experimental study in which the effect of inhibition and goal setting on academic text comprehension was analyzed. To determine the effect of the distractor on reading comprehension, an eye tracker was used during reading. The experimental task was complemented with the measure of working memory, processing speed and vocabulary. From the results we conclude that inhibition and goal setting influence comprehension when reading is interrupted by distractors. In addition, we conclude that working memory and processing speed are not related to comprehension, in contrast to vocabulary which correlates positively and significantly with the comprehension of academic texts in first-year university students.

The purpose of Lexical Availability is to discover the vocabulary that a speaker could use in relation to certain topics, which makes it a useful tool for the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE). The Curricular Plan of the Cervantes Institute (PCIC) establishes a list with the vocabulary that should be taught at the different levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (MCER): A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. However, this model has taken as a guide the northern-central variety of Spanish, leaving the American varieties relegated to the background. That is why the present study shows a lexical selection proposal based on Lexical Availability in three lexical fields ―or topics―(clothing, food and drinks, means of transportation) at A2 and B2 levels for teaching Spanish in Chile. The objective is to demonstrate its usefulness in the selection of vocabulary for the creation of Spanish teaching programs and materials. Finally, the results obtained will be contrasted with the guidelines established by the PCIC.

Abtract: This article proposes that the literary works Mapocho by Nona Fernández and “Bajo el agua negra” by Mariana Enríquez use the representation of rivers as spaces of collective memory and spectrality, influenced by the environmental crisis and the notion of Anthropocene, to question and resist forgetting traumatic historical and political events. These works explore the relationship between the natural and the social, managing to trace through their narrative a link between the past and the present, highlighting the persistence of memory in the urban landscape of Chile and Argentina.

Abtract: Some critics have claimed that the poems written by Enrique Lihn in the eighties lack a political dimension. In the light of his Pena de extrañamiento, from 1986, this article defies this thesis. It describes the marginal situation of Lihn within the Chilean cultural scene at that time, in contrast to the poet Raúl Zurita. Then, it is argued that Lihn resists such disparagement, resorting to the political meaning of the ghost that he incorporates into his work. The article examines the relationship of this idea with Jacques Derrida's notion of spectrality, arguing that the speaker of the book can be understood as a traveler who enjoys a survival in the midst of the dictatorial ruins. Against the traditional understanding, it is concluded that in Pena de extrañamiento there is no flâneur, for in a context of trauma there is nothing to look at.
