  • Measuring the Programming Complexity of C and C++ using Halstead Metrics

      Abstract: Computer algorithm is the core of computer science and important prerequisite of computer science professionals. However, its hard and abstract nature makes it difficult to understand. Pedagogical issues in learning of algorithms are generally resolved through elaborating the algorithms with their implementation in some programming language. As there are many programming languages, the selection of appropriate programming language for effective implementation of algorithms remains a challenging issue. In this article, common algorithms of data structures are measured by analyzing their implementation in C and C++ through Halstead complexity metrics. The statistical tests identified that as compare to C++ the less effort, time and bugs are involved in C for the implementation of algorithms, whereas C++ involves less difficulty during the implementation of algorithms. The work stated in this article provide a novel aspect to relate and evaluate other programming languages.

  • Forecasting Multan estate prices using optimized regression techniques

      Abstract: Purchasing a house or plot has become a complicated task for an average person due to budget constraints and market situations. An individual does not know the prices of the plots and gets trapped by a middle man. This paper proposes a solution for this problem by predicting the plot prices using a machine learning approach, leveraging Multiple Linear Regression, Gradient Boosting Regression, and Random Forest regression techniques. This work compares the performance of these three algorithms by hyper-parameter tuning using gird search, and random search for checking which one is adequate in terms of  scores and error rates. Factors that influence the prices of the plots include plot covered area, physical condition of the plot, area, and population. Gradient boosting regression has surpassed all other machine learning methods, achieving the lowest error rates and highest R-squared score of 0.987 with grid search. The resultant predictive systems can help the folk in three ways. 1) safety from deception 2) budget oriented instant information, and 3) time saving.

  • Role of IoT in protecting wearable gadgets

      Abstract: Out of the most entrusted technological revolutions applied for the advancement of living standards and creation of a more convenient operation in the professional world, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been progressing at the highest projected pace. The interconnectivity of gadgets and devices over the internet to produce smarter control, communication, and a swift and easy lifestyle makes it an amazing tech introduction. However, the IoT also brings along a huge flow of privacy and security concerns whilst considering the huge inflow of data breaches and cyberattacks in the network data. The advancements in the security protocols of the data thus bring along a mistrust among the users of IoT networks who might then no longer wish to be a part of this technological revolution. Therefore, it is important to maintain security assurance in the IoT based connection networks of wearable gadgets. This paper discusses the symmetric and asymmetric approaches of encryption over IoT which can help protect the network of smartphones connected to the wearable to assure a safe and smart data commute and avoid access to private data over the same internet connection.

  • A Usability Evaluation of M-commerce Apps

      Abstract: In today’s era, Internet has become an increasingly popular technology globally. Huge numbers of websites and applications have been developed and majority of them are selling products over the internet. Even with the availability of a large number of M-commerce applications, still the target audiences of these M-commerce applications such as students, office employees, housewives, who need a mobile application to do their online shopping, are not using them efficiently due to usability issues encountered at user interfaces of m-commerce applications. This is because of poor interface design along with neglected usability guidelines that are provided by various researchers and essentially followed by standardize companies like Apple and Google. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the interface of such a system should be explored through different stakeholders by considering numerous parameters and criteria. To tackle UX/UI problems well, this study is conducted to aim the usability improvement of m-commerce applications and for the same, two popular applications, Daraz and Elo, is selected by considering current download rate and positive reviews. They are considered as top ranked m-commerce applications, working successfully in Pakistan for the year 2020. However, some usability problems were noticed for these Apps and were reported in the reviews of the application too. So, these problems are addressed and targeted to filter out the most significant issues in usability. The methodology used for evaluation and analysis of the currently available m-commerce applications was heuristic evaluation (from expert users) and user testing (from novice users) based upon the integrated usability guidelines proposed by different usability experts.   The research finding concluded the three significant criteria which are error prevention, aesthetic and minimalist design, and help & documentation. Further, different decision making techniques will be applied to attain user satisfied m-commerce platforms through prototype design in near future.

  • Balochi Speech Recognition using Android Based Smart Phone

      Abstract: The latest era of computers is called the Artificial Intelligence where multiple intelligent machines are working to ease the life of a common people. Interacting with machines via human language is one of the hot areas called Natural Language Processing (NLP). The various language speech recognition systems are already built and there is a need to build the speech recognition system for languages which are lacking in various computing resources. Balochi language is one of the Pakistani languages which lacks computing resources such as automatic speech recognition system. This paper presents the Balochi Speech Recognition system in which the Android mobile phone is controlled by speaking Balochi words. The Balochi speech recognition system calls or opens the various installed applications when the user speaks in Balochi language. For the sampling purpose a total of 230 subjects were selected to record the samples of 2300 words. These words have been recorded in various environments including silent and noisy environment. The android platform-based Balochi speech recognition system has been designed which takes input from Balochi speakers in Balochi language and performs some activities based on the proposed model. The Android application is designed to understand Balochi words. The system has been build using React Native technology. The Balochi speech recognition system has been tested for various Balochi words and produced an average accuracy of 89% and 81% for native and non-native speakers of Balochi language. The system is capable to be extended in various directions and to be applied in multiple area-based applications. Users who speak Balochi language will benefit from this Android application, which makes it easier to use smartphones using local language rather than having to speak English.
