  • LA LITTÉRATIE COMMUNAUTAIRE : EXPLORER LES PRATIQUES DES ACTEURS

  • Littératie communautaire : analyse de la production documentaire et
           revue de la littérature

    • Abstract: Christine Dufour, Marie D. Martel, Nathalie Lacelle, Samar Kiamé, Laurie-Ann Garneau-Gaudreault and Thomas Poulin
This article aims to clarify the concept of community literacy and produce a definition in order to better understand its fields of study and action. The methodology is based on a literature search including a bibliometric analysis and a systematic review of the literature conducted on a corpus of Anglo-American and Spanish-language texts. The results of this research reveal that the concept of community literacy is based on a series of constitutive dimensions: difference and diversity, locality, critical and ethical agency, delineation and continuum of literacies. This comprehensive review of the literature and these findings will enrich theoretical and practical approaches while fostering the engagement of different actors in community literacy.

  • M/EDIA/TIONS : ASSISES THÉORIQUES RELATIVES AUX QUESTIONS D’ÉQUITÉ,
DE DIVERSITÉ, D’INCLUSION ET D’ACCESSIBILITÉ (EDIA) POUR
L’ENSEIGNEMENT DE LA LITTÉRATURE AVEC LE NUMÉRIQUE

    • Abstract: Amélie Lemieux
This theoretical article expands on the responsible use and potential applications of the concepts of equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion (EDIA) for literature teaching in multimodal context. To this end, the author first provides a rationale for research using this framework, considering structural and policy implications for research in Canada and Québec. In so doing, she extrapolates on five areas where EDIA was researched in a SSHRC-funded knowledge synthesis grant report to generate practical implications for research in teaching literature using multimodal and digital texts. These outcomes imply, for both inquiry and teaching praxis, a critical outlook on the notion of “best practices”, and research-oriented reflections on positionality and ethics.

INTÉGRANT DES TECHNOLOGIES NUMÉRIQUES AUPRÈS D’ÉLÈVES EN SITUATION
           DE HANDICAP

    • Abstract: Isabelle Brassard, André C. Moreau, Karine N. Tremblay, Edith Jolicoeur and Judith Beaulieu
Digital technologies offer many opportunities for teaching literacy (reading, writing and oral) to students with severe disabilities. However, their integration into teaching is challenging for schools. This scientific literature review analyzes seven articles published between 2015 and 2019 integrating digital technologies into literacy teaching practices for students aged 5 to 21 with severe disabilities (i.e., intellectual disabilities). The results show the contribution of technologies, including the electronic tablet as material adapted to the chronological age, independent and self-directed learning or assistive technologies. In addition to future research, the discussion raises avenues to build the capacity of schools to promote literacy with digital technologies while collaborating with families and the community.

  • La littératie en milieu rural dévitalisé

    • Abstract: Sébastien Ouellet
The vision expressed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) about culture and education (1990, 2005, 2008) shows the importance of an issue experienced in several regions of Quebec and Canada, characterized by devitalization and challenge in literacy and cultural development (Duxbury & Jeannotte, 2011; Nicholls, 2005; Statistics Canada, 2016a, 2016b). This issue is linked to the survival of these small communities. We present the case of research based on the analysis of local needs and which highlights the role that literacy and culture can play in the development of individuals and communities (Desrosiers et al., 2015). To do this, we selected a rural area considered to be devitalized (Institut de la statistique du Québec, 2021a, 2021b). Quantitative data, for example statistics, were brought to light and led to the identification of indicators from different sectors (education, culture, economy, health). In addition, we analyzed qualitative data from interviews with stakeholders in the target environment. The pooling of multisectoral indicators and interview results allowed us to suggest avenues for reflections and actions in order to better understand the phenomenon of literacy in devitalized rural areas.

  • La francisation des adultes dans le cadre de l’exposition AlterAnima du
Musée de la nature et des sciences de Sherbrooke : une analyse
diagnostique en vue de réviser l’offre éducative

    • Abstract: Carine Villemagne, Anik Meunier, Justine Daniel and Lucie Sauvé
The partnership research (SSHRC 2019-2022) discussed in this article is situated at the intersection of several theoretical and practical fields – adult francization, museum education, and environmental education. Based on the methodology of research and development (Loiselle and Harvest, 2009), this partnership research aims to design, test, and then evaluate, with a view to improvement, an interdisciplinary museum educational program at the Musée des sciences et de la nature de Sherbrooke (MNS2), adapted to allophone adults, that integrates pre-visit and post-visit educational activities with the museum visit. Our article reports on the results of the data collected during the diagnostic stage analysis. The data collection strategies used were focus groups and individual interviews, involving all participants: French learning adults, francization teachers and the museum animators. This diagnostic stage shows, among other things, that the educative potential of the studied museum activity would be better actualized if incorporated within a richer educational scenario, on one hand, and if linked with francization programs, on the other.

  • NUMÉRIQUE ET LECTURE LITTÉRAIRE : QUEL CONTRAT'

    • Abstract: Marie-Sylvie Claude and Bénédicte Shawky-Milcent
Glose is a digital tool designed for the French language classes. Defined by its creators as “an enriched reading interface where students and teachers can read, annotate, discuss, and share selected texts”, it would allow students to read more (because of the appeal of the screens to teenagers) and better (because of the facilitated interactions between students and between students and teachers through the creation of a reading group for the class). To find out to what extent these promises were being fulfilled, we conducted a study with a group of about 20 teachers who were testing this tool (location). From case to case, teachers aimed for either distanced reading or involved reading, or to reconcile these two readings. Through the comparative study of two cases, we will show that whatever the teacher’s aims, he or she can only achieve them if he or she rethinks all the components of the didactic contract usually practised in relation to the tool. Otherwise, it would turn out that the interface is more of a hindrance than a support.

  • un état des lieux des usages de la littératie médiatique multimodale en
           contexte numérique (LMM@)

    • Abstract: Amal Boultif and Béatrice Crettenand Pecorini
This knowledge synthesis provides an inventory of the uses of media and multimodal literacy in a digital context (LLM @) in French courses and language of instruction (L1-L2) in minority or majority environments, between 2015 and 2020. Our goal was to identify innovative uses in LMM@. We collected 192 documents matching our search criteria. From a corpus of 30 representative articles, the analysis revealed that the choice of keywords did not reflect the concepts or content of the studies, as well as a great disparity in the definitions associated with the LMM@. In addition, we have noticed a certain looseness in the definitions of central concepts, such as information skills and LMM skills. A more detailed analysis based on the TPACK framework of 14 studies, presented integrated practices in French teaching with transdisciplinary perspectives anchored in the daily cultural practices of youth from the 21st century.

  • REPRÉSENTATIONS SYMBOLIQUES DE L’ALGÉRIEN DANS L’IMAGE CARICATURALE
DE LA PRESSE FRANCOPHONE ALGÉRIENNE AU TEMPS DE LA PANDÉMIE DE LA
           COVID-19

    • Abstract: Naoual Bourkaib Saci
Starting from the Bergsonian perception of humour as being a funny and pleasant staging of social facts in order to show their unsociability, we ask, in the context of this article, the following question: how the cartoonists of the French-speaking Algerian press did represent the way of acting of the Algerian during the health crisis due to the spread of the coronavirus' To answer it, we will try to identify precisely the meanings of the symbolic representations of the Algerian in the caricatural image of the French-speaking Algerian press at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the way in which the image of the Algerian is spoken in ten cartoons published in three local newspapers dealing with the subject of the coronavirus in Algeria. Our objective is to grasp the implicit meaning of iconic messages (from a semiotic approach of the image) and linguistic messages (used by cartoonists to describe what is, by pretending to believe that it is the way it should be).

  • Les usages des technologies numériques dans la médiation de l’art
contemporain : portrait de leurs apports et limites selon deux
           institutions montréalaises

    • Abstract: Sarah Turcotte
The text reports on research carried out in 2018, the objective of which was to identify the contributions and limits of digital uses in the mediation of contemporary art. An empirical study conducted on two sites, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) and the PHI Foundation for Contemporary Art (FP), shows that technologies contribute to the project of cultural democratization: they accentuate the visibility of institutions and come in a variety of media, reaching out to different types of people and needs. However, reluctance to use digital tools exists because of the amount of resources they mobilize while their sustainability is not guaranteed.
