  • Reflection of British imperialism in the Ottoman Empire; Baltalimani Trade
           Agreement

    • Authors: Atilla AYDIN
Abstract: In the process that started with mercantilism and continued with the industrial revolution, European states recorded significant production increases. Britain, which started the industrial revolution, opened up to foreign markets in order to market its increasing production and to buy the raw materials it needs. The short distance of the Ottoman Empire market to Britain and the dense population of the empire stand out as attractive conditions for England. During the mercantilism period, the Ottoman capital was eroded and the economic structure weakened due to the capitulation agreements. For this reason, the Ottoman economy was caught vulnerable to the industrial revolution. With the favorable political conditions, the Baltalimanı Trade Agreement was signed between Britain and the Ottoman Empire in 1838. The purpose of this study is to reveal the mechanisms of the process leading to the agreement and to analyze the results of the agreement. With the entry into force of the agreement, Ottoman domestic production collapsed. In addition, the Ottoman economy became dependent on foreign countries and fell into a debt trap. In this framework, the results of the agreement in terms of European financial capital were also analyzed. Another outcome of this study was to reveal the changing political structure of the Ottoman Empire with the agreement. It is aimed to shed light on today’s globalizing economic world by revealing the causes and consequences of the Baltalimanı Trade Agreement in the historical process.

  • Opi̇ni̇ons of pre-servi̇ce teachers on di̇stance educati̇on and

  • An unknown work of Sultan Walad: Safina-i Nohi and Majmoa-i Rohi

    • Authors: Şadi AYDIN
Abstract: Sultan Walad was the son of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi and his material and moral heir. After Rumi, Mevlevi order was shaped and institutionalized by Sultan Walad. This mystical movement, which became widespread in Anatolia during the Seljuk period and later in all the Ottoman lands, was recognized almost in all over the world also in modern times. All the works of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi are widely read by the people of the world. The works later revealed by Rumi’s son, Sultan Walad, are in a key conduit for us to better understand the works of Rumi. His book Maarif, written in prose, and the other works called Ibtida-nama, Rebab-nama and Intiha-nama which he wrote with “masnawi” verse form, is almost like the complement of Mawlana’s works. The poetry book (Diwan) is an important work that shows the breadth of the scientific, literary and intellectual personality of Sultan Walad. In the foundation stage of classical Turkish literature in Anatolia, although the poetry language is Persian, the first works that exemplify Turkish poetry in terms of poetry forms and types are the works of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi and the works of his son Sultan Walad. These two poets (father and son), who gave complete and perfect works in almost all verse forms and types, can be regarded as the founders of Anatolian Turkish classical literature in terms of form and genre. To understand Mawlana Rumi and Mevlevi order the works of Sultan Walad should be well known in all aspects. To date, a lot of studies have been carried out on Rumi and Mevlevi order. However, an unknown work of Sultan Walad “Safina-i Nohi and Majmoa-i Rohi” which is written in Persian language has not been discovered until this time. This valuable work in Konya Manuscripts Library in Turkey contains imitates, replies (nazair) written by Sultan Walad in the poems of Mawlana Rumi’s Diwan-i Kabir.

    • Authors: Mehmet Fatih KARAGÜL
Abstract: Two types of olives, Olea europea oleaster and Olea europea sativa, are grown in Çanakkale. The first olive growing activities in Çanakkale took place in the ancient Gargara city in Küçükkuyu in Ayvacık district. Thus, olive farming for Çanakkale in the 6 th century BC We can suggest that it can be dated to a. Olives, especially grown in the Mediterranean basin, have an important place in polytheistic and celestial religions in ancient times. Olive has been one of the indispensable parts of our lives as an agricultural product since ancient times due to its usability features throughout human history. For this reason, the main subject of the article is ash glazes produced from olive pits and they are considered among the artistic glazes used in ceramic production. Burnt ashes of any organic raw material can be used to obtain these ashes. It has been an incentive for us to carry out our research on olive ash ash, which has not been studied before, in order to connect with the geography of Çanakkale where we live and to draw attention to the local value of olive. • Quality of life and global climate change

    • Authors: Özge UYSAL ŞAHİN
Abstract: Although quality of life is often associated with health, it is actually a multidimensional concept. It is shaped by many factors such as education, economy, health and environment. Therefore, quality of life can be defined as the state of well-being in material and spiritual conditions that affect a person’s life. Increasing the quality of education and health and the creation of fair access conditions, increases in national income levels of individuals, technological advances and equal access opportunities, and the extent of environmental pollution determine the quality of life of both individuals and societies. Although it has an environmental dimension, do what we do to improve the quality of life affect climate change' Because the activities that people do to improve their lives and the goals they want to achieve can cause some destruction on nature. For example, while increasing technological opportunities creates conditions that make people’s lives easier and societies progress, it also brings many harms on the environment. Similarly, the increase in the weight of the industrial sector and the services sector in an economy creates conditions that increase the economic power of individuals and improve their quality of life, while it is a fact that it creates negative effects on natural life and the environment. In particular, many industrialization activities polluting agricultural areas, water and air are very common. So what is the solution then' Should the goal of quality of life be abandoned' What needs to be done here is to reconsider the factors that make up the quality of life. In particular, it is the creation of “minimal living” conditions that we talk more about with the pandemic today. In this study, too, we discuss the concept of quality of life in detail and seek answers to the questions of how the factors that determine our quality of life should be and what should be done in the face of a global climate change threat.

  • Government houses as presentation of power and ideology in the Ottoman
State: The case of Safranbolu Government House

    • Authors: Sema Tuba ÖZMEN
Abstract: Architecture, which is associated with the practice of producing space, has always rendered the powers and ideologies visible. This study investigates the government houses in the 19th century Ottoman State with regard to the notions of power and ideology and focuses on the Government House of Safranbolu. It is known that, in the specified period, government houses were important ideological interventions to urban space. This study aims to address the ideological context of the Safranbolu Government House, which is positioned with the ideal of the state. Based on this, first, the urban history of Safranbolu was examined. The importance of Safranbolu Government House in the history of the city, its relationship with the city, its ideological message to the city-dwellers and its architectural style were analyzed through a method based on archival research. All government houses of the period are the artifacts of urban-spatial structures and their architectural style as well as a shared ideology. Safranbolu Government House, which is one of the structures symbolizing the Ottoman State, was also built with a similar ideological consideration. Thus, the readability of the dominant ideology through the production style of Safranbolu Government House, one of the final period architectural artifacts of the Ottoman State, was verified.

  • “Thinking about thinking on the moral one”: a model on the

    • Authors: Gökhan ARSLANTÜRK
Abstract: The distinguishing feature of human is his/her cognitive capacity. With this cognitive capacity, people established civilizations and developed moral systems. Awareness is central to these cognitive traits. People who are aware of themselves and their environment can know, monitor, and regulate their thoughts. This study addresses these cognitive features in a moral context. In this direction, a model has been proposed regarding the mediating role of metacognition between mindfulness and moral metacognition. The participants of the study consist of 220 people, most of whom are university students. The scales and questions of the research were delivered to the participants online. The findings obtained from the testing of the model indicate that mindfulness contributes to moral metacognition with mediation of metacognition. However, there is no direct relationship between mindfulness and moral metacognition. The findings were discussed in terms of the contribution of the study to the literature, its limitations, and implications for future studies.

  • Use of mindfulness applications with virtual reality applications in
           nursing

    • Authors: Gözde ÖZSEZER
Abstract: Virtual reality (VR) has recently been used as a tool to support awareness. When the literature is examined, no national or international studies have been found to transfer awareness practices to nursing practices as virtual reality applications. VR technologies beneficially address the challenges of environmental distraction by providing an immersive, engaging and controlled visual and auditory virtual space where attention skills can be experienced. It has been reported that the mindfulness-based stress reduction program with VR applications is used to reduce stress and anxiety, regain attention, increase anxiety and fear, and treat post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorder and pain. VR technologies have made mental health interventions more accessible to the wider public. VR mindfulness is a new research area in the field of nursing. Therefore, it seems that more research is needed on this topic to understand the processes related to awareness in VR and other digital applications. The purpose of this review is to examine the relationship between VR of mindfulness stress reduction programs and nursing practices.
