Authors:Lirong Zhang, Ni Wayan Sartini Abstract: Campuran bahasa tampaknya sudah menjadi fenomena umum dalam konteks komunikasi internasional pada masa kini. Penelitian ini menganalisis jenis dan wujud bentuk campur kode dalam wacana profil Kementerian Luar Negeri Indonesia yang ditampilkan di web resmi dalam kerangka Teori Markedness Model dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, supaya menemukan faktor sosial yang memotivasi dan menyebabkan fenomena variasi bahasa tersebut. Jenis campur kode yang terdapat dalam sumber data penelitian ini hanya berbentuk penyisipan kata dan penyisipan frasa yang berupa campuran bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris dan semuanya merupakan campur kode yang unmarked. Berdasarakan hasil analisis tersebut, beberapa faktor sosial yang memungkinkan penggunaan campur kode pada profil Kementerian Luar Negeri Indonesia adalah: untuk membedakan identitas sosial sebagai orang asing, menjamin ketepatan dan kebenaran data pada peristiwa yang terjadi pada masa lampau, dan menyesuaikan dengan kebiasaan penggunaan bahasa yang lazim dalam interaksi internasional. Kata Kunci: Sosiolinguistik; Campur Kode; Markedness Model Abstract: Mixing languages seems to have become a common phenomenon in the context of international communication today. This study analyzes the types and forms of code-mixing in the profile discourse of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is displayed on the official website within the framework of the Markedness Model Theory using descriptive qualitative methods, in order to find the social factors that motivate and cause the phenomenon of language variation. The type of code mixing contained in the data sources of this study is only in the form of word insertion and phrase insertion in the form of a mixture of Indonesian and English and all of them are unmarked code mixing. Based on the results of the analysis, several social factors that allow the use of code-mixing in the profile of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are: to distinguish social identity as a foreigner, to ensure the accuracy and truth of data on events that occurred in the past, or to adapt it to the usual habit of using language in international interactions. Authors:Lulu Safira Nisa Abstract: The goal of this study is to depict the gratitude strategies utilized by Indonesian EFL female and male students in responding to various academic situations. The data were gathered from 85 undergraduate students of English Literature, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Brawijaya University in Malang using Discourse Completion Tasks (DCT) from O’Keeffe, Clancy, & Adolphs (2011). The results show the diversity of gratitude strategies based on Chen, Ho, & Yang's (2005) taxonomy and used by the participants from both genders, varied from brief, lengthy, to complex thanking acts. All participants delivered mixed sets of thanking speech acts, explained in the following conditions: a) social status (students and lecturers), b) indebtedness (lending money to students), c) breaking promises (coming late to presentations), d) between friends (attending the proposal seminar) and e) the setting of public area (letting students to enter the elevator first). It is also revealed that both genders were successfully expressed their gratitude in responding to the five academical contexts made by the researcher. Authors:Elis Prastiwi Abstract: The position of LGBT in Indonesia has received a vague response recently. There are also many marginalization and stereotypes faced by this community in Indonesia despite some acceptances received. This study will examine the stereotype of LGBT reflected within news articles. Employing socio-cognitive approach by Van Dijk (as cited in Wodak and Meyer, 2001), the researcher aims to: (1) find out the lexical choices found in Republika Online (ROL) news articles that contain stereotype towards LGBT Community, (2) discover Indonesian cognition depicted in the news articles, and (3) find out readers' responses to the stereotype addressed to LGBT community. The researcher conducted qualitative research to elaborate on the findings of stereotypes found in ROL. The data were obtained from a document analysis to find out the discourse and cognition level, and an interview to search the society level. The researcher found that stereotypes “LGBT is an illness” and “LGBT is a threat to the nation”s in ROL have represented LGBT. These stereotypes were motivated by the rejection of LGBT's existence, a shift in attitude toward LGBT, and ROL Muslim ideology. From the interview, the readers showed various responses toward the news; agreement to the stereotype by a reader, and disagreement by three others due to various reasons. In conclusion, the stereotypes of LGBT in ROL have caused negative images of this community even though they were not supported by scientific explanation in the ROL. The readers however have reacted towards these stereotypes differently, regardless of the negative images caused by the ROL stereotypes towards the LGBT community. This research scrutinizes linguistic disciplinarian as regards English for Engineering. Numerous samples have been mustered from PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero), the >35-year state-owned warship-building industry in Surabaya. They, the respondents, are in dilemma and hardship since General English (GE) poles apart from Technical English (TE). Exploratory Factor Analysis or EFA method transfigures the ‘English subject’ on to focal point, then; so does it reorients these clusters of English for Engineering as pioneer of: (i). Translations, (ii). Supply Chain, (iii). Operation Manual Documents, (iv). Standard Operation Procedures, and (v). Object-oriented Analysis and Design/ OOAD. Foregoing multivariate language’s scope in English intermittently mystifies the engineer whether the grammar, structure, meaning, or the principle is common or not; a specific-based linguistic (English for Engineering) can expedite both technicians’ advance English learning furtherance and broaden the significance of English for Specific Purpose (ESP), later on. Authors:Nur Afia Abstract: Abstrak: Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis kesalahan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menulis dari siswa kelas 8 dan untuk mengetahui kesalahan yang paling umum dilakukan oleh siswa. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah Siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Peneliti memilih 4 latar belakang teks deskriptif dari siswa sebagai sampel. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan lima jenis kesalahan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa yaitu Article, Verb Tense, Singular/Plural, Noun, dan Preposition. Kesalahan tata bahasa yang paling umum dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif adalah kesalahan Verb Tense dengan 6 kesalahan (40%). Berikutnya adalah Singular/Plural dengan 4 kesalahan (2,6%), Noun dengan 3 kesalahan (20%), Artikel dengan 1 kesalahan tata bahasa (6,6%), Preposisi dengan 1 kesalahan (6,6%). Dengan analisis kesalahan, guru dapat memperbaiki kesalahan penting yang harus diperbaiki, sehingga siswa dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menulis dalam bahasa Inggris.Kata kunci: bahasa Inggris, analisis kesalahan, teks deskriptif, kesalahan tata bahasa Abstract: This research was to find out the types of grammatical errors made by the students in writing from students 8th Junior High School Students and to find out the most common error made by the students. The population of this research was Junior High School Students. This research used a cluster random sampling technique. The researchers chose 4 backgrounds of text the descriptive from students as the sample. The result of this research found five kinds of grammatical errors made by the students namely Article, Verb Tense, Singular/Plural, Noun, and Preposition. The most common grammatical error made by the students in writing the descriptive text is an error in Verb Tense with 6 errors (40%). The next is Singular/Plural with 4 errors (2.6%), Noun with 3 errors (20%), Article with 1 grammatical error (6.6%), Preposition with 1 error (6.6%).
