  • Dalla condizione terrestre all’ambiente planetario nei Canti di
           Giacomo Leopardi

    • Authors: Mirosław Loba
      Pages: 5 - 15
Abstract: This article examines the representation of the environment in the Canti by Giacomo Leopardi. The author seeks to show the Leopardian environment as a place where history, nature and the cosmos intersect. The immensity and simultaneity of these three elements determines the way the lyric subject inhabits the world. Leopardi’s poetic focus is on his painful experience of the environment, which remains an indifferent and destructive agent. The poet deconstructs classical and romantic models of nature and culture by appealing to the aesthetics of the sublime, which unlike Kant is not the means of understanding but the way to experience the planetary character of existence.

  • Ecolirica e “umanesimo ambientale” nell’opera tarda di
           Andrea Zanzotto

    • Authors: Alessandro Baldacci
      Pages: 17 - 29
Abstract: The article focuses on the denunciation of the environmental catastrophe as the central hub of the late works of Andrea Zanzotto, from Haiku. For A Season, composed during the first half of the 1980s, to his latest book, Conglomerati (2009). Starting from the poet’s awareness of writing from within an unprecedented environmental crisis, the analysis aims to highlight the “ecological potential” of his poetry, the novelties it presents, after Idioma, moving ever more dramatically and paradoxically between the utopia
of the garden, as a symbol of harmony, and the infernal one of the forest, to indicate the degeneration of human action and its nefarious effects on the entire planet. Thus emerges the ability of this poet to transform his texts into pedagogical “planetary gardens”, in which to cultivate resistance strategies that are given within the same ecosystem. In conclusion, the article aims to underline how, in its late phase, Zanzotto’s poetry presents itself in the form of an “environmental humanism” that involves every living form and raises the need for a different way of inhabiting the earth in the times of the Anthropocene.

  • Da rugiada a ruggine. Poesia dialettale e ambiente: Pasolini, Zanzotto, De

    • Authors: Paulina Malicka
      Pages: 31 - 47
Abstract: The scope of the present article is to reflect upon the question of the environment within the context of the discussion concerning the use of dialect in the poetry of Pier Paolo Pasolini, Andrea Zanzotto, Nino De Vita and other poets from Sicily. Commencing from the concept of ‘diversity’, as intended by Pasolini as the disappearance of the rural world, which occurs in step with the eclipses of dialectal variety, the essay will demonstrate how the environment – the crucial focus of the poetry of the above mentioned poets – converges concepts of dialects, territoriality and animality. The ecocritical method, which is applied in this study, enables one to signal the urgency to reflect upon the situation of contemporary poetry, in particular of Sicilian poetry, which has its roots in Nino De Vita’s poetic works, inextricably tied to the place, the natural and the cultural context of the island. The new Sicilian poetry does not cancel ‘diversity’, which on the contrary is capable of confronting environmental issues – at times also beyond the island’s borders – and it feeds from the lymph, from the root of the dialect.

  • Abitare la parola “ecologia”. L’ottica
           postantropocentrica di Antonella Anedda

    • Authors: Justyna Hanna Orzeł, Hanna Serkowska
      Pages: 49 - 61
Abstract: The article explores Antonella Anedda’s works from a post-anthropocentric perspective within the theoretical framework of ecocriticism. After mentioning some of the most relevant concepts and ideas connected with these lively approaches in interdisciplinary studies, it presents a brief and deliberately ongoing introduction to an outline of observations on the poet’s production, considering the key eco-categories such as animals, plants and space.

  • Il caso-Sicilia nel romanzo storico-sociale I vecchi e i giovani di Luigi

    • Authors: Cezary Bronowski
      Pages: 63 - 74
Abstract: The author’s intention is to present the “Sicily case” in Luigi Pirandello’s socio-historical novel The Old and the Young (1913). The article explores the concept of the so-called “Sicily case” in Pirandello, which has not only its own environmental and literary specificity, but also social-political context. It is closely linked to the terrifying image of Sicilian nature that corresponds to the topical motif of the locus amoenus and its complete reversal, seen in the mirror distorted by the political and social climate of the country at the time. The “Sicily case” in Pirandello’s novel becomes a propeller of human consciousness, indeed the writer with several environmental references, the writer indeed highlights the affinities.

  • Sulle tracce perdute dell’urogallo: un approccio ecocritico a
           Stagioni di Mario Rigoni Stern

    • Authors: Cristiano Bedin
      Pages: 75 - 91
Abstract: Stagioni (2006) is the last work by the Italian writer Mario Rigoni Stern and it is like an autobiography that delves into the most important phases of his life and explains his relationship with history and, above all, with nature, the focal point of his literary production. In this contribution, starting from an overview of some theoretical fundamentals of ecocriticism, such as Pastoral and Wilderness, and considering the relationship between ecocriticism and literary studies, we intend to analyze Rigoni Stern’s environmen- talist approach, placing Stagioni in the more complex ecological discourse that the writer built in his long literary career.

  • Un flâneur al pascolo. Gianni Celati e l’esperienza

    • Authors: Anna Małgorzata Brysiak
      Pages: 93 - 104
Abstract: The essay aims to analyze the writings of Gianni Celati and his way of ‘re-narrating’ and ‘re-mapping’ the environment in contemporary times, focusing on two trilogies, namely Narratori delle pianure (1985), Quattro novelle sulle apparenze (1987) and Verso la foce (1989), as well as on the collections of short stories Un eroe moderno (2008), Il benessere arriva in casa Pucci (2008), and Selve d’amore (2013). The paper discusses how the themes addressed by the author, who assumes the role of a flâneur of postmod- ernism, are a way to express his continuous nostalgia for the naturalness, simplicity, and originality of living and narrating.

  • Mitizzazione, rappresentazione e strumentalizzazione del fiume ne Il
comandante del fiume di Ubah Cristina Ali Farah

    • Authors: Barbara Kornacka
      Pages: 105 - 120
Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the motif of the river in the novel Il comandante del fiume by Ubah Cristina Ali Farah, which appears on three planes: the level of the myth, of the representation and of the literary device. The use of the river motif demonstrates its literary potential. Furthermore, the river con- firms that the two cultures involved in postcolonial literature yield a new quality due to the acceptance and inclusion of diversity. It also affirms the writer’s autonomy from both her Somali and Italian roots. Finally, the river is established as an indispensable element for the exposition and understanding of the theme dealt by this Bildungsroman.

  • L’ambiente psichiatrico nell’opera di Franco Basaglia e Mario Tobino:
verso un’ecologia delle idee (sulla follia)

    • Authors: Stefano Redaelli
      Pages: 121 - 134
Abstract: The aim of the article is to compare the reform and the narration of the psychiatric environment in the work of Franco Basaglia and Mario Tobino from an ecological perspective. Both psychiatrists worked to reform the asylum spaces and the therapeutic relationships within it. Their actions and their narrations were both ecological but had an opposite ending. While Tobino defended until the end the idea of a safe psychiatric environment, protected by society, considered dangerous, Franco Basaglia strongly affirmed the repressiveness of the asylum space, the need to dismantle it and return the madness to society.
