  • Accessibility to agricultural products: case study in Jaruco municipality,
           Mayabeque province

There are many factors that impact the food acquisition: income, prices (which affect availability and affordability), preferences and individual beliefs, cultural traditions and geographical, environmental and socioeconomic factors, which interact in a complex way to configure individual eating habits. In this sense, a study was carried out in the Jaruco municipality, in Mayabeque province, Cuba, with the objective of determining the accessibility level of food, based on offers of different agricultural products that are offered under different commercialization forms. The work was based on the availability on the supply in four popular councils of the municipality. 90 people were surveyed, including producers and consumers. Results of surveys were processed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square (χ²) of independence. The statistical analysis showed that there is a significant dependence between the variety of products and the access area; on the other hand, 69.86 % of respondents considered that price is the factor that has the greatest impact on the accessibility of agricultural products in the locality. The supply of products in the municipality is considered deficient in quantity, quality and variety; there is marked dissatisfaction in the popular councils that are located far from the urban center, where the diversity of products is scarce and access to them is less.

  • INCASoy-2, new cultivar of soybean (Glycine max L.)

The new red soybean variety, INCASoy-2 was selected within the INCASoy-24 cultivar in the experimental area of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, during the spring sowings of 2018, due to a spontaneous mutation. Seeds of the selected plant were sown, subsequently, in summer and winter of the same year, giving small segregations of yellow seeds, with a phenotypic behavior similar to its parent. The most notable differences are the reddish-brown color of seed testa, the greater height of this new variety, earlier maturity than INCASoy-24 and greater agricultural potential.

  • 'Fredy', a new garlic genotype introduced in Cuba

Esta nueva especie de ajo, presenta buena calidad postcosecha y adaptabilidad en las zonas estudiadas.ABSTRACT The elephant garlic (Allium ampeloprasum L.) was introduced in Cuba, but it is not known who brought it. It is adapted to production and climatic conditions in the western part of the country, between October and February. With low inputs, it is resistant to diseases and reaches yields higher than 24.89 t ha-1 when planting is done mechanized and the "seed" is planted at 0.70 m of row, two rows and 0.07 m between plants, with which it reached between 15.10-15.0 t ha-1. This new garlic species has good post-harvest quality and adaptability in the areas studied.

  • H-Ame15: New single hybrid transgenic maize, resistant to the fall
           armyworm and tolerant to herbicides

The simple maize hybrid H-Ame15 was obtained by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB, according its acronyms in Spanish) from a cross between the transgenic line L-Moltó and the Cuban commercial line CT9. L-Moltó contributes transgenic events to the hybrid that facilitate its large-scale management by providing resistance to the fall armyworm and tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicides. This hybrid also has good productive potential, its plants are tall, with large foliage, with the angle of insertion of the leaf to the stalk almost narrow, the delayed senescence character is present and the cobs are cylindrical with semi-crystalline yellow grains.
