Authors:Balla Wahyu Budiarta, Willy Artha Wirawan, Fadli Rozaq, Natriya Faisal Rachman, Dhina Setyo Oktaria Abstract: The study aimed to determine the tensile and impact strength characteristics of the banana steam fiber (BSF)-polyester composite modified with NaOH treatment. The composites were made using the hand lay-up method, varying the length of the BSF fibers to 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. The fiber was modified by giving 2% NaOH for 1 day to improve the mechanical properties of the composite. The tensile strength tests were carried out using ASTM D638 standards. While impact tests were carried out using ASTM D6110 standards. The test showed the highest average tensile strength value at 30 mm fiber length, for 37.78 MPa. Meanwhile, the lowest value at 10 fiber length was 31.87 MPa. For the impact test, the highest average value was at 10 mm fiber length, for 0.016 J/mm2. And, the lowest value was at 30 mm fiber length variation, for 0.010 J/mm2. Fiber length has no significant effect on the flexural strength of the BSF composite. Authors:Raihan Muhammad Abstract: The sealing system is used on the pump as a sealing medium between a stationary object (the pump casing) and a rotating object (shaft), maintains the shaft temperature, and keeps the fluid not in or out of the system. The blowdown pump in Priok Combine Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) used service water as a medium for the sealing system because potential seawater will contaminate the pumped water. In this case, the authors observe a blowdown pump, one of the pumps in the desalination system that pump the seawater. There is no potential for contaminating fluid systems by sealing water because the fluid contains many salts and is thrown directly into the ocean. This project is to replace the water sealing using seawater as a sealing system on the blowdown pump will not harm the system because the fluid system is carried out. This research can reduce the use of water service by as much as 1142 liters per day for 2 desalination plants because the discharge water uses sealing each desalination unit is 23,79 liters / hour / desalination. Authors:Ahmad Faishol, Mulyadi, Edi Widodo First page: 1 Abstract: Screw conveyors are known as bulk material transporting with controlled and stable flow. In this paper will discuss how the inclination affects the capacity and power of screw conveyor. Simulation is presented by applying the Discrete Element Method (DEM) software. Corn shelled was used as a test with continuous filling of 1000 ft3/hr for 20 second, while modeling by screw conveyor 2 meter long at positions 00, 200 and 450 with speed variations are 50 rpm, 75 rpm and 100 rpm. Furthermore, the results of the DEM simulations are displayed in the graphs of capacity and power for each model. For modeling with an inclination of 00 the results obtained at speeds of 50 rpm, 75 rpm and 100 rpm, respectively, are 596,6 ft3/hr, 938.6 ft3/hr, 1039,1 ft3/hr. Meanwhile, the required powers are 0.94 HP, 1.21 HP and 1.58 HP respectively. These results differ greatly from the 450 model, at speeds of 50 rpm, 75 rpm and 100 rpm, respectively 90,6 ft3/hr, 373,4 ft3/hr, 422,9 ft3/hr. Meanwhile, the power required are 1,10 HP, 2,26 HP and 11,8 HP respectively. It can be seen that the capacity reduction due to inclination reaches more than 50% with a significant increase in power. Authors:Rifky Maulana Yusron, Mohamad Imron Mustajib, Imam Hanafi Pages: 23 - 32 Abstract: Aluminum 6061 is an aluminum alloy, which contains aluminum as main entails, then magnesium and silicon are mixed as alloying elements. It had a good capability for corrosion resistance, heat treatable, formed, and welded. Computerized Numerical Control had excellent capability to process mass-production products. Unsubstantial machining parameter setting will lead to a lack of surface roughness or even worse damage on tool steel. The aim of this research is to arrange data about surface integrity conducted by Dry-running machining CNC Milling. Surface integrity included surface roughness and micro-cracks. Aluminum 6061 is chosen as the material. The observed parameter machining in this research is cutting speed 3 is levels 60, 70, 80 mm/minute, then depth of cut is 3 levels 300, 380, 450 mm/minute and depth of cut is 3 levels 0.5, 0.75, 1.0mm. Taguchi L9 (33) was used as a design experiment to find optimum parameters. Based on the result of the experiment in this research, the optimum surface roughness founded on the machining parameter combination of cutting speed was 80 m/min, feed rate 300 mm/min, and depth of cut was 0.5 mm. Authors:Mohammad Jufri, Billy Muhammad, Mulyono, Daryono, Heni Hendaryati, Ali Saifullah Pages: 33 - 38 Abstract: Demand for bio-pellet as alternative energy has widely increased. It occurs as people are aware of energy-saving for today and future living. Therefore, the increment in bio-pellet quality has also been a concern. The bio-pellet quality can be influenced by the materials (biomass) and its treatments. One of the treatments for the bagasse bio-pellet is drying. It is conducted to lessen its moisture before it is produced by the ring die pellet mill. The influence of drying temperature on bagasse bio-pellet quality is the focus of this experiment. The result shows that the different drying temperature for bagasse bio-pellet gives a different quality. However, those qualities comply with the requirement of the Indonesian National Standard for biomass energy. PubDate: 2023-11-27 DOI: 10.22219/jemmme.v8i1.29192 Issue No:Vol. 8, No. 1 (2023)
Authors:Ivinia Muthia Anjani, Raden Grenny Sudarmawan, Noor Hidayati, Muslimin Muslimin Pages: 39 - 48 Abstract: Fish serves as the primary income source for the majority of fishermen in Indonesia. In order to preserve the freshness of the fish, fishermen commonly use styrofoam cool boxes. However, the use of styrofoam results in a significant quantity of waste that doesn't naturally break down. As a solution, a study was conducted to develop an alternative thermal insulation material for cool boxes. This material takes the form of a biocomposite, made from epoxy resin combined with water hyacinth and sugarcane bagasse fibers. The research’s results are A1 type had the lowest density value (0,795 g/cm3) and the lowest thermal conductivity value (0,1987 W/mK). The B3 type had the highest bending strength value (395,224 kg/cm2). All type of ratio variations’ density and bending strength test results are met the requirements of SNI 03-2105-2006. It can be concluded that A1 type is the best choice as a thermal insulation material purpose. After a cool box from composite (A1) manufactured, a comparison test between styrofoam cool box and composite cool box is being held. The 24-hour test result shows that styrofoam cool box still outperformed the composite cool box in terms of temperature maintenance. Authors:Anisa Ayu Solikah, Sulistyo Saputro, Sentot Budi Rahardjo Pages: 49 - 66 Abstract: The need for electricity in Indonesia is still high due to its population and large area. However, power plant fuels such as coal are less able to meet the electricity needs in the community. This is because the amount of coal is running low and cannot be renewed. To overcome this, the government focuses on developing power plants from alternative energy that is new renewable so that it will not run out. To achieve this goal, studies are needed that can inform the public and researchers in the future. The study of geothermal energy as an alternative energy for power plants in Indonesia from 2013-2023 aims to provide information and analysis related to obtain: 1) the principle of changing geothermal energy into electrical energy. 2)The use of geothermal energy in the world today. 3)The research on the use of geothermal energy so far in Indonesia' 4) The potential of geothermal energy as an alternative power plant for Indonesia' The research on the use of geothermal energy so far in Indonesia through literature review and supported by VOSviewer, 5) The challenges and solutions in developing geothermal energy as an alternative to power generation in Indonesia.
