Authors:Francesco Vanoni Pages: 1 - 38 Abstract: This article, made possible by an examination of the digital colour reproduction of the entire manuscript, aims to highlight some significant contributions concerning the famous Chrysostom MS Athous Stavronikita 6 (ID No. 30067). Firstly, the catalogue status of the codex will be reviewed, and two hitherto unreported homilies will be included in the sequence. Secondly, the following section discusses the manuscript's contribution to the textual tradition of the Quindecim novae homiliae. A meticulous codicological and palaeographical study of the Stavronikita 6 – as far as the reproductions made it possible – is the main subject of the third part, concluding with a detailed examination of the manuscript's colophon and the modern-hand note on the inside cover, showing important news on the provenance of the codex in order to present their significant contribution to the Textgeschichte. In particular, I would like to show evidence that at least some of these works were not low quality ones and their compilers don’t seem to have been ignorant of the scholarly discussions on grammar. For this purpose, I examined examples of points of contacts between some τέχναι on papyrus and theories and treatises of the most important Greek scholars. Authors:Anita Belcheva Pages: 49 - 59 Abstract: The present article provides an unedited epitaph by Manuel Philes for Angelos Senachereim, who held the office of megas stratopedarches in the first half of the 14th century. The poem is transmitted in a small collection of Manuel Philes’ poetry, preserved in a single manuscript dated to the 15th century. The paper includes a portrait outline of the person, information about the manuscript, commentaries on the epitaph, metrical analysis, and an edition with translation. Authors:Umberto Fiorino Pages: 61 - 74 Abstract: The purpose of the present article is to publish an incomplete alphabetical sacro-profane florilegium, which has been handed down from the codex Hierosolymitanus Sabbaiticus graecus 419, dating back to the end of the 14th century, on pages 199v – 201r. The florilegium in question, which is very short, contains a total of twenty-nine excerpts, some of a secular nature and others of a christian one, while eight remain unidentified. Authors:Charilaos E. Avgerinos Pages: 75 - 114 Abstract: The paper focuses on the use of Aratus’ Phaenomena in Eustathius’ commentaries on Homer (Parekbolai ad Iliadem and ad Odysseam). Starting from an epigrammatic presentation of Aratus’ reception in Greek literature up to the Byzantine era, the article treats Eustathius’ adoption of ancient literary criticism on noted cases of aratean mimesis of Homer, the contrasted discussion of place- and proper names referenced by the two poets, the implementation of terms and phrases of vernacular origin contained in the Phaen. in the exegesis of Homer, and the introduction of aratean imagery in Eustathius’ comments on Homeric similes. Closely following the author’s argumentation, the article furthermore examines the application of texts belonging to various genres in the formation of his comments on Homer in the passages under consideration, highlighting the degree of the author’s dependance on his multifarious sources. Authors:Anna Maria Taragna Pages: 115 - 170 Abstract: The report of someone’s spoken or written words, mostly in the form of speeches and letters, is a typical and somehow standardized element of Byzantine historical works related to classical models. Throughout the centuries, however, this literary element does not remain totally unchanged, and this “evolution”, together with the presence of historiographicallogoi also in other types of history writing (namely chronicles and ecclesiastical histories), may provide some insights into the difficulties posed by the traditional “boundaries” and “oppositions” that still govern the taxonomy of texts in Byzantine literature. In this paper some case-studies will be analysed, with selected authors from the 6th and 7th centuries (Procopius of Caesarea, Agathias of Myrina, Theophylact Simocatta, Evagrius Scholasticus and Chronicon Paschale) and a foray into the 11th and 12th centuries (with the Historia syntomos attributed to Michael Psellos and the Synopsis Chronike by Constantine Manasses).
