Authors:Lily Restusari, Elfahmi Yaman Pages: 1 - 11 Abstract: Joruk Maman is a food product that has been known to contain crude fiber and lactic acid bacteria that function as probiotics. Currently, the use of Joruk Maman as an alternative medicine for chronic diseases and functional food with high nutritional value is not too much. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant activities content of bioactive compounds from of fresh and dried-plants and Joruk Maman so that the utilization of Joruk Maman can increase. This type of research was a laboratory research with quantitative descriptive method to determine the fiber content, total phenol, and antioxidant activity in fresh plants, dry powder and joruk maman. Analysis of data from phytochemical test and bioactive compounds were analyzed descriptively with the mean and standard deviation using computerized data processing software. The results of this study showed the highest crude fiber content in the maman powder sample with a percentage of 7.84%. The highest total phenol content was found in fresh maman plant extract which contained total phenol of 35.33 mg of gallic acid equivalent/g extract. The antioxidant activities of dried, fres and fermented manan (joruk manan) using DPPH method was shown with IC50 values > 1000, 276,58 dan 323,88 μg/ml repectively, while quercetin as a tandard which is predicted also found in manan gave IC50 2,06 μg/ml. And the strongest antioxidant content was obtained with an IC value of50 in the quercetin sample of 2,06 g/ml based on the DPPH method. Further study testing is needed on the antioxidant activity of the Joruk Maman plant from each plant organ including roots, flowers and seeds with other methods to determine the potential of each part. Carrot are rich in bioactive compounds such as phenolic compounds, carotenoids, polyacetylene, and ascorbic acid which has health effects. Carrot are known to have many health benefits such as antioxidants, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, antihypertensive, antibacterial, and antifungal. This study aims to determine the characteristics and phytochemical screening of root, leaves and stem carrot (Daucus carota L) and prepare a review article about chemical compounds and pharmacological activities of carrot. Characterization performed of crude drug included macroscopic and microscopic, determination of total ash content, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash, water content, water soluble extract, ethanol soluble extract, and loss on drying. Phytochemical screening was carried out to check the presence of secondary metabolite in crude drug. Root, leaves and stem of carrot extracted by reflux method with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 96% ethanol. Review article was prepared by considering and analyzing literatures. Water content of roots, leaves and stem of carrot were 5%, 4,17% and 6,67%, respectively. All crude drugs contained flavonoid, phenol, quinone and steroid/triterpenoid groups. Article review was done by collecting and analysing 82 literatures. The water of all crude drugs fulfilled the requirement. Wortel (Daucus carota L.) has many chemical compounds and pharmacological activities. The potential use of cinnamon bark as cosmetic preparations was studied by confirming its antioxidative, antimicrobial, and its inhibition towards tyrosinase activity. Methods: Extraction was performed by maceration using 70% ethanol. Antioxidative activity using the DPPH methods, melanin inhibitory effect was determined using in vitro anti tyrosinase assay. MHC and MIC of cinnamon bark extract were determined towards Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Cutibacterium acnes. Results: The standardization result of the crude drugs showed positive result on qualitative analysis of Flavonoid, Tannin, and Quinone groups. Flavonoid content also found on the ethanolic extract. The IC50 antioxidative activity of cinnamon ethanolic was 7.52 ± 0.13 μg/mL compared to ascorbic acid with 2.54 + 0.02 μg/mL. The Ethanolic extract of cinnamon inhibited tyrosinase with IC50 of 9.44 ± 0.26 mg/mL. Lowest minimum inhibitory concentration of ethanolic extract was found towards Cutibacterium acne with 1000 μg/mL. Whereas weak antimicrobial activity was showed towards Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis with MIC and MBC value started from 2000 μg/mL. Conclusion: Comparable result on antioxidative and anti-tyrosinase analysis shows that cinnamon bark have fair potential to further developed and formulated for topical maintenance product.
