  • Evaluation of the activity of antimicrobial agents against the challenge
           of bacterial resistance

Abstract: Antibiotic resistance by bacteria is one of the major emerging issues in human and animal health, due to the loss of susceptibility to certain drug's action. This review discuss the terminology and international reference guidelines that allow a right study of the antimicrobial agents' effect and/or their combinations in vitro and in vivo. They're also exposed some innovative trends which implies the use of distinct combinations between traditional antibiotics or the design of binary mixtures among multiple natural antimicrobials. Finally, it is shown that the effect of such mixtures could be an excellent indicator of what, in a future, combined therapy may be an alternative to drug-resistance against traditional antibiotics.

  • Quinoxaline 1,4-dioxide: a viable option for the development of
           antitubercular drugs

Abstract: Tuberculosis is a major infectious disease in the world, which causes high mortality. The treatment consists of drugs of first and second line; however, its effectiveness is limited by several factors, mainly the presence of resistant and/or multi-drug resistant strains. This work reviews compounds derived from quinoxaline 1,4-dioxide with antimycobacterial activity in in vitro and in vivo models as an option for the development of new drugs against tuberculosis.

  • In vitro release study of ibuprofen dragees: dose and dissolution
           apparatus influence

Abstract: In order to evaluate the effect of the dose and the dissolution apparatus on the release of ibuprofen from immediate- release dosage forms, the dissolution profiles of reference product Motrin® (400 and 600 mg, dragees) in USP Apparatus 2 and 4 at different pHs, were obtained. Using USP Apparatus 2 at pH 6.8 only the 400 mg drug product reached the 85 % dissolved at 30 min. Significant differences in dissolution efficiency, related to dose and apparatus used, were found (p< 0.05). The results suggest the need to reconsider biowaiver criteria for ibuprofen drug products.

Abstract: The Academic Practice Program, carried out at UAM-X since 1982, plays an important role in the consolidation of the academic education of QFB (Biochemical Pharmacology) major students, since it encourages students to develop valuable real world skills. These skills, such as team working and adaptation to diverse working environments, are significant advantages that complement the knowledge and technical abilities gained by students while taking college courses. Due to the great importance of the Academic Practice Program in fostering student development and growth, we present an extensive analysis of the participation of QFB undergraduate and graduate students in the Program in 2000, 2006, and 2013, in the different collaborating companies. In this study we also consider the gender, working area, and personal relationships of the participating students.

  • Influence of different types of lactose on tablets compactibility

    • Abstract: Abstract: This study explores the compactibility of SuperTab 24AN compared against SuperTab 21AN, Lactopress anhydrous and lactose anhydrous NF. Individual powders and their mixtures with amoxicillin and captopril are evaluated. Tablets of unlubricated lactose does not allow the perception of a different compactibility. However, with 2% stearic acid is greater the compactibility of SuperTab 24AN (D162 N = 231) followed by lactose anhydrous NF (D162 N = 201), Lactopress anhydrous (D162 N = 171) and SuperTab 21AN (D162 = 123 N). Mixing with the drugs decreases the compactibility of the excipients, preserving the previously observed order. It also shows an equalizing effect; the advantage of a carrier over the other is less noticeable in the mixtures.

  • Standardization of the mRNA extraction method from umbilical cord vessel

En el 100 % de las muestras se obtuvo ARNm.Abstract: Gene quantification in umbilical cord has been used to study several diseases, however the correct homogenization of the vascular tissue is a latent problem. The main objective of this study was to propose a sequence of steps leading to the successful mRNA extraction from umbilical cord vessels. 20 samples of umbilical cord, from which the vessels were dissected to be homogenized in the Bullet Blender Standard BBX24 (Next Advance, Inc., Burden Lake Road, NY, USA) were processed. mRNA extraction was performed on the MagNA Pure LC 2.0 (Roche, Germany), using the MagNA Pure LC kit RNA Isolation Kit III (Tissue) (Roche, Germany) and its concentration was quantified by spectrophotometry at 260 nm in a NanoPhotometer (Implen GmbH, Germany quantified ). mRNA was obtained in 100% of the samples.

Abstract: Endocrine disruptors from plants cause anomalies in the reproductive system of mammals. We studied the effects of methanolic extract (MEx) from the Prosopis torquata fruit on the reproductive functions, histology and morphology of the reproductive system of male Wistar rats. Offspring were randomly distributed in four groups. Three with a phytoestrogen-free diet and injected subcutaneously with MEx, estradiol (E) and vehicle (Ve), respectively. The fourth was fed with a commercial diet containing phytoestrogens (Cf + Ve). No significant changes were observed in hormones values and in sperm concentration between the groups. The MEx group exhibited a slower testicle maturation, scarce number of elongated spermatids, and epithelial disorganization in the reproductive organs. Disruptive effect of MEx has been observed in our laboratory on female Wistar rats.
