Authors:Hafrizal Okta Ade Putra, Werry Darta Taifur, Donard Games, Hefrizal Handra Pages: 1 - 16 Abstract: The millennial generation holds the power of a nation, and the future of the nation is in their hands. Moreover, phenomena, issues, and dynamics that occur in the millennial generation demographics related to social capital, diffusion of innovation, and political engagement are interesting subjects to discuss. This research was conducted in Padang, capital city of West Sumatra. Besides, the participants were millennials with the age of 19 to 38 years from various educational backgrounds, professions and domiciles. The purpose of this study is to analyse social capital on the diffusion of innovation, and social capital on political engagement. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, social capital positively and significantly contributes on the diffusion of innovation and political engagement. Authors:Asphat Muposhi, Mercy Mpinganjira, Marius Wait, Paul Blaise Issock Issock Pages: 17 - 42 Abstract: This study examined whether the behaviour of using 'green' shopping bags varied according to gender in South Africa - a country known for promoting gender equality. The study's results revealed gender differences in the use of green shopping bags in respect of the new ecological paradigm, awareness of consequences, ascription of responsibility, attitude towards green shopping bags, intention to use green shopping bags and perceived behavioural control. The findings of this study underscore the importance of fostering the development of personal and descriptive norms related to the use of green shopping bags for both male and female consumers. If norms remain weak, it will be difficult to entrench the behaviour of using green shopping bags. The study also showed that the other key factors necessary for promoting the use of green shopping bags among both male and female consumers include inculcating pro-environmental beliefs, enhancing awareness of consequences plastic bag litter and fostering pro-environmental attitudes. The study's findings also highlight the urgent need to minimise the structural barriers associated with the use of green shopping bags, especially among female consumers. This could be done by making green shopping bags affordable through incentives or subsidies. Authors:Wogene Tesfaye Gobena, Daniel Kitaw Azene Pages: 43 - 76 Abstract: Plastic recycling is essential for sustainable development. However, the recycling rate is very low in Ethiopia. Most used plastics are not collected and returned in an organised way. Proper return of used plastics from the end-user to the recycling hub needs a systematised reverse logistics (RL) system. In the previous studies, the identification of critical factors for RL adoption has been conducted without considering the interaction between factors. But, RL is affected by multiple interacting issues. The objective of this paper is to identify the critical factors in considering the interaction between significant issues. Data was collected through a literature survey and questionnaires. The relative importance index and FDEMATEL-ANP methods were executed. The study revealed that stakeholder, social behaviour, and legislation exert a greater impact on RL. RL adoption is possible through the collective effort of stakeholders. This result is valuable for policymakers and the actors in the plastic sectors. Authors:Wogene Tesfaye Gobena, Daniel Kitaw Azene Pages: 77 - 92 Abstract: This paper seeks to examine the thought of philosophers about the influence of the environment on humans' physical, mental and moral habits, as well as how these philosophers used this influence to categorise individuals according to their habitat. As such this research begins with Herodotus and Hippocrates, and briefly discusses Plato, Aristotle, and seven medieval philosophers belonging to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions (Al-Kindi, Eriugena, Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Tufail, Averroes, and Moses Maimonides). Also, this study investigates Montesquieu from the seventh century, eight modern thinkers from the 19th through the 21st centuries, determinism (Carl Ritter, Ellen Churchill Semple, and Ellsworth Huntington), geography of possibilism (Vidal de Blacche, Lucian Febwer, and Cari Sauer), bioregionalism (Richard Evanoff), and meteorology (Frederik Nebeker). Lastly, this study concludes that all aforementioned 19th philosophers agreed that the environment influences human behaviour and physical condition.
