      Abstract: The innovation process has always been a great ally for companies. With the evolution of technology, this relationship has evolved into open innovation. As of this moment, the adoption of crowdsourcing platforms has expanded to create an effective channel between the company and its partners. In this way, it is possible to collect and unite ideas from different people who contribute to innovation. Still, collecting a large volume of data without the support of technological tools can directly affect the ability to innovate. Therefore, this work aims to create a method using visual techniques capable of improving the analysis and consequently the management of ideas. For that, usage scenarios were developed from two different bases, one of ideas and the other of scientific articles. For each scenario, groups of similar ideas used different selection criteria, thus allowing the creation of a flow of information using different visual techniques. These techniques can extract relevant non-visual information in a conventional manner. With this information the decision maker gains new resources for managing ideas. Experts in the field of idea management have approved this method. In this research, an application was made available to demonstrate a flow of visual representations in different scenarios. As a form of evaluation, a questionnaire was sent with a series of questions of usability of the method. To validate the reliability of the questionnaire sent to the specialists, Cronbach alpha coefficient formula was applied, resulting in a value of 0.825, a considerable value suitable for the coefficient. In this way, the method was able to show its importance in the scope of idea management.

  • Detection of Facial Spoofing Attacks in Uncontrolled Environments Using

      Abstract: Distance education has become an alternative in teaching derived from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, distance education has led to bad practices for some students. For example, it was detected that some students spoofed the teacher in a class or exam. Therefore, facial biometrics can be used to solve, in real-time, the spoofing problem. However, the solution is not exempt from presentation attacks that undermine the reliability of the systems. Other challenges that must be considered are lighting, resolution, and variable size of the faces, among others. In this paper, we present a methodology to address the problem of facial spoofing attacks. We combine the Extended Local Binary Patterns (ELBP) descriptor and YCbCr, HSV color models to highlight the saturation and illumination of an image. For the experiments, we present a comparison of our proposal against other state-of-the-art methods. We obtain an error of 2.45% with the Half Total Error Rate (HTER) metric in the MSU image bank. The results revealed that for environments where the camera resolutions are not controlled, our proposal provides a feasible solution reducing the costs of acquiring specific hardware

  • Cognitask: BCI system based on P300 for cognitive therapies

      Abstract: Brain-computer interfaces can be used within a therapy rehabilitation of cognitive functions such as attention and working memory. This paper presents the design, implementation and preliminary evaluation of Cognitask, a BCI for cognitive rehabilitation. It consists of a modified version of the P300-based speller BCI that allows the presentation of different cognitive tasks. During a task, the patient must complete a certain pattern by ordering a set of images presented disorderly in a visual stimulation matrix. The selection of each image is recognized using the P300 elicited when the patient looks at the matrix where images are flashing and selects one by attending to it. Cognitask consists of four modules. The first acquires and conditions the electroencephalography signal from six electrodes positioned at the fronto-central and parieto-occipital regions. The second processes the signals and translates them into a control signal. The third consists of a user-interface that presents the cognitive task to the patient. The last module consists of a graphical interface for the professional that allows configuration of the session parameters. Two evaluations of Cognitask were performed. The first evaluated the operational functioning of the system using input signals generated by a software. The second evaluated the performance of the system in three healthy volunteers. The results showed that Cognitask had a correct functioning and a maximum average success rate of 92%. These results suggest that Cognitask can be transferred to the clinical setting for evaluation in adults with cognitive deficits.

  • Multiparametric Identification of Favorable Regions for Wind or Solar

      Abstract: The capacity for renewable energy generation, particularly solar and wind, tends to grow over the years. However, locating regions favorable to the development of solar and wind generation is not trivial and is subject to errors due to the social, environmental, economic, political and administrative aspects of the regions. Therefore, this article proposes an algorithm based on digital image processing, capable of performing a variable weight multi-parameter evaluation and quantifying how favorable a given territorial region is for the implantation of wind or solar plants. Maps of the region under analysis are taken as input information. The region taken as a case study is the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, due to the access to data related to the evaluated characteristics: solar radiation, solar insolation, precipitation, air humidity, temperature, electrogeography, demographic density, environmental protection areas, slope, hydrography, wind speed, urban spot and the presence of aerodromes. It was possible to list for each type generation (wind or solar, exclusively), the 15 most favorable regions for the implementation plants. Furthermore, the proposed technique presents a practical indifference to the territorial extension of the evaluated region, which can comprehend a micro-region or an entire continent, requiring only that sufficiently detailed maps of the evaluated characteristics be provided.

  • Machine-Learning-Based Diagnosis of an Inverter-Fed Induction Motor

      Abstract: The principal objective of this paper is to detect and automatically monitor switch open-circuit faults in a two-level three-phase voltage source inverter fed induction motor from the processing of its current signals. The proposed diagnostic method uses both signal processing techniques and machine learning techniques in order to detect and localize the switch under an open-circuit fault. First, the Hilbert-Huang transform using the empirical ensemble mode decomposition is employed for each phase current signal, which leads to extracting the intrinsic mode functions. In order to optimally choose the function indicating the open-circuit fault harmonic, two factors, namely, the root mean square and the correlation coefficient are calculated out for each function. In this regard, two criteria are proposed that lead to choose the optimal function giving better information about the defected phase. The spectral envelope of the optimal function permits extra0cting the fault harmonic of the switch. Second, different machine learning techniques are applied to locate and classify the switch open-circuit faults with the hyper-parameters optimization for a better design of the different models. Finally, a comparative study of the different machine learning techniques is carried out for determining the best classifier for the open-circuit faults. The experimental results effectively demonstrate a very high classification rate of 98.98%.

  • System Frequency Response Model Considering the Influence of Power System
           Stabilizers

      Abstract: Frequency stability analysis of large power systems are extremely time consuming, laborious and may even exceed the computational capacity of modern computers. Hence, simplified power system models have being developed in the literature. These models are usually called System Frequency Response (SFR). In SFR models, generators are represented by transfer functions, nonlinearities are generally neglected and the grid is not taken into account. Conventional SFR models only contemplate the mechanical behavior of speed governors, turbines and synchronous machines of generators. This is because, a common simplification is to consider that frequency and voltage can be controlled independently. However, it is demonstrated that there is an interaction between them, so frequency can be affected by the effect of power system stabilizers (PSSs) over excitation system controllers. In this work, a modified SFR model is proposed, considering the influence of generators excitation control on frequency. Simulation results show an improvement of the accuracy in the estimation of frequency response of the power system.

      Abstract: In this work, a multi-sensor approach to extract misclassified oil palm plantations from forest cover map using a modified Pauli Decomposition technique is presented. The proposed method includes the generation of a primary forest cover map built using a Landsat-based Normalized Difference Fraction Index, and then the palm oil plantation is filtered out using scattering mechanisms through the Modified Pauli Decomposition technique based on the fusion of Sentinel 1 and Alos Palsar data. Accuracy assessment of the final product, produces accuracy values of 0.946 for forest class, while the classification accuracy for non-forest class is 0.92.

  • An Overview of Massive MIMO for 5G and 6G

      Abstract: Massive MIMO is a disruptive technology that was born more than a decade ago, and that has been adopted as an integral part of the 5G standard. Without its many advantages, the next generation of communications systems would not be able to meet most of the requirements necessary to be called 5G. However, several challenges had to be solved from its inception until its adoption. Nowadays, with most of them overcome, researchers are turning their attention to novel ways to enhance the technology and have it once more being an essential feature of the next generation of communications systems, e.g., 6G. This work provides a brief but comprehensive overview of the technology known as Massive MIMO, its challenges, available solutions, and novel research directions. Additionally, we provide discussions on the use of Massive MIMO in Terahertz bands and the use of Machine Learning algorithms for channel estimation and signal detection tasks in such systems.

      Abstract: Agricultural water consumption represents 69% of all freshwater used on the planet. In addition, it is necessary to increase food production by 50% by 2050. The use of Internet of Things platforms to carry out the sensing and monitoring of the agricultural environment is increasingly present in the literature. One of the difficulties that such platforms face is to validate the platform's operation in different irrigation systems, as it is often necessary for specialists to work in the connection of sensors and actuators that already exist on farms or that are defined in the design of such systems. Within this context, a discrete-event simulation of an irrigation system integrated into an Internet of Things platform was developed in this work. The digital manufacturing software Plant Simulation was used to perform the discrete event simulation. An OPC UA server establishes real-time communication between the Internet of Things platform and the simulation software. Thus, farmers may verify, in real-time, how a given irrigation prescription, sent by the IoT platform, takes place in the irrigation system.

      Abstract: In this paper, the analysis of an UWB monopole antenna using the Theory of Characteristic Modes is presented. It starts from the modal study of an asymmetric dipole (structure 1), and then complements and compares it with a broadband monopole (structure 2), aiming to understand the operation principle of the proposed antenna. To achieve this, the electromagnetic properties of the structures are analyzed through the generation of its characteristic angles, modal radiation patterns, characteristic currents, and the power contribution percentage of each mode to the total radiated power, providing a vision on how the superposition of individual characteristic modes enables UWB operation. The prototype model is fabricated, and the measured results agree very well with the full-wave simulations results. The proposed prototype has a very low profile and operates in the frequency band from 2.8 GHz to exceed 10 GHz for a reflection coefficient S11 less than -10dB.

      Abstract: In this paper, the regulation problem for robot manipulators in joint space through the proposal of a new family of bounded regulators with variable gains is presented. The proposed regulators have bounded functions that replace the classical position error and the velocity; moreover, the variable gains are formed by a family of Lipchitz functions with the position error and the velocity as their arguments. This structure avoids exceeding the physical limits of the servomotors. A strict Lyapunov function is proposed to demonstrate the global and asymptotic stability. Finally, the functionality and performance of the proposal are examined by experimental results on a direct-drive-robot of 3-degrees-of-freedom against the PD regulator

      Abstract: This work introduces a new control scheme for uncertain underactuated mechanical systems. The proposed approach is mainly based on sliding mode control, but a Gaussian process regressor is also embedded in the control law for uncertainty estimation and compensation. The convergence properties of the closed-loop signals are analytically proved by means of the Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations with an inverted pendulum on a cart are presented to confirm the improved performance of the proposed control scheme.

      Abstract: Dance has the potential to improve people's quality of life, as well as assist to decrease depression and anxiety. However, the lack of technologies capable of exploring alternative senses of hearing limits music and dance's beneficial effects on listeners. In order to find a model capable of being implemented in accessible devices, this work evaluated the use of a model based on neural networks to estimate the forro music bar length. Model variations were trained for seven datasets composed of mixes of music samples without noise, with real noise and with white noise. For each dataset, the best variation was selected and these were evaluated for the same real noise samples. The model variations that were presented to samples with real noise in the training estimated the bar duration with an average percentage error of less than 7% in the test step, being significantly better the model trained only with real sample. The evaluated model was able to estimate the length of the forro music bar length, even in real scenarios, as long as it was presented in this scenario during training. Increased database diversity and the use of data augmentation techniques can lead to improvements in the generalizability of the model. The simplicity of the evaluated model and its ability to learn when properly trained, indicate its potential to be used, in real time, on a mobile device to pass the rhythm of forro music to deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) people.

      Abstract: In this paper is proposed a new method for optimal allocation and sizing of Photovoltaics (PVs) systems in power distribution network to reduce losses in feeders and minimize the economic aspects of the PVs implementation. The proposed technique, called Modified Particle Swarm Optimization with Dynamic Momentum (MPSO-DM) is proposed so that can be applied in distribution system, that requires a high number of decision variables in the optimization process. This becomes necessary because the classical Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), in general, presents a performance drop in the exploration of the search space when applied to these situations. The proposed method was tested in a real distribution network of the Federal University of Paraiba (79 buses), which results show a improvement in performance, yielding better solutions when compared to the traditional Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) method and MPSO with linear decrement inertia weight.

      Abstract: The interpretation of medical images is a fundamental process for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This process contributes determining the causes of symptoms as well as monitoring the effects of any treatment. Although the generation of medical reports from images is a complex task, deep learning strategies have been integrated with models that allow this arduous task to be tackled, achieving promising results. This work aims to present a compilation of the most outstanding deep learning strategies focused on the automatic generation of medical radiology reports from X-Ray images. Papers based on DenseNet, ResNet and VGG architectures, in combination with Long Short-Term Memories (LSTMs) and attention models, are analyzed in terms of the pre-processing strategies, databases used, model adaptations, and metric results. All these important findings are summarized in this survey, highlighting those models that reported the highest performance.

      Abstract: Dengue control is a challenging task due to the complexity of the factors that involve its spread. The use of mathematical models to investigate the spread of dengue allows us to understand its behavior and provide information for its eradication. In this work, the analysis and simulation of the dynamics of dengue transmission to the State of Minas Gerais-Brazil- was proposed. Mathematical models were simulated using free software Scilab. In order to assess the impact on the epidemiological curve of the disease, the main methods of mosquito population control (insecticide, larvicide and mechanical control) were analyzed. The results obtained showed that mechanical control was the most efficient method, with 9.3% reduction of cases, as it acts directly in the breeding sites. It is noteworthy that insecticide and larvicide control also had a positive impact on the epidemiological curve, with a decrease of 7.9% and 6.3% of cases, respectively. This justifies the use of these techniques concurrently with mechanical control. The use of projections obtained by mathematical models can guide decision making regarding the adoption of public policies to reduce dengue cases.

  • A Comparative Study of Time Domain Compressed Sensing Techniques for

      Abstract: Speeding up data acquisition and reducing the complexity of the detection system are among the central goals for advancing optoacoustic imaging. In this way, new reconstruction algorithms using the compressed sensing (CS) formalism have received considerable interest in recent years. This work presents a comparative study of reconstruction algorithms using time-domain CS schemes for optoacoustic tomography. This is motivated by the well-known capabilities of the CS paradigm in achieving good reconstruction performance even with limited sensing capabilities. Formulation of the mathematical problem is provided along with simulation results, where the performance of different representation basis used in time-domain CS strategies are analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative fashion. Comparison with a well-established optoacoustic tomography reconstruction technique as backprojection is also provided. These experiments show the suitability of time-domain CS techniques for this application and point out that the use of the canonical basis for the representation of the optoacoustic measurements is well suited in comparison with other more sophisticated basis.

      Abstract: Time-Domain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (TD-NMR) is a powerful method used for general characterization of a variety of materials as well as to online or in-situ monitoring of process. Because of that industries increasingly benefit from its use in process analytical technology (PAT) for production control and quality assurance. However, there is an increasing number of applications that requires automated signal acquisition as a function of temperatures, a resource that is not always available in many of the commercial equipments. We describe an automation procedure using the Bruker Minispec mq20 spectrometer with the BVT3000 temperature control, building software and hardware to execute TD-NMR experiments as a function of the temperature as well as the temperature calibration in an automatic form. Despite being developed for this specific equipment, the general idea can be used in other TD-NMR equipments that could benefit from this type of automation. As a demonstration, the system was used to monitor the temperature dependence of molecular mobility in polymers. All developed codes are shared in an open repository on GitHub.

      Abstract: In Peru, the number of vehicles increased in the last decade, therefore, the automatic control requires a long database with a specific license plate model. It should be used for registration, evaluation and information extraction associated to the cars to control access parking with a particular license plate characteristic, especially for government buildings, therefore, an automatic evaluation of the license plate should be more dynamic and effective than European systems due to quantity of characters, specific segmentation and additional information in the Peruvian plate. License plate recognition is a widely applied system in artificial vision for the automatic obtaining of car license plates. This research article seeks to design a Peruvian license plate recognition system to reduce the time of vehicle registration and it involves accurate recognition of the plate location and extraction. Image processing techniques are used using the Python programming language, together with the OpenCV library. In addition, with YoloV4 a neural network is trained to locate the area where the license plate is located to facilitate the application of an Optical Character Recognizer (OCR). Our findings are a new improvement and evaluation in the traditional license plate software, with a new Peruvian database, so it allowed extracting the registration information instantly with high accuracy evaluated with 200 to 1000 images; therefore, the new contribution is the improvement in the false positive values with an accuracy of 100%, rate of failure of 0% and the sensibility of 100% with a specificity of 100% (neural network trained with 1000 images); besides it is the database for the future works for Peruvian cars.
