  • Investigation of Modeling Methods of Kinetic System Building Facades

      Abstract: The architectural form of a building describes the interaction of the facade with the environment. Kinetic facades, an interactive component, can learn and adapt to user activities and behavior using real-time movements to determine the most appropriate orientation and configuration, providing functions such as thermal and visual comfort, artificial light reduction, solar tracking, and electricity generation. However, when designing kinetic facades, it is necessary to choose the right modeling tools and methods in order to achieve the intended performance in the final product. For this reason, it becomes a necessity to apply different modeling methods to identify high-performance, environmentally friendly alternatives that provide the most appropriate guidance and configuration while creating interactive facade geometry. In the study, firstly, the relationship of parametric design with the kinetic front has been revealed. Afterwards, modeling methods obtained from 20 studies examined from 2000 to 2020 were presented and the advantages of these methods were mentioned. The studies created by using the methods of modeling kinetic facades with parametric design have been examined under two modeling methods as evolutional based models and models created with shape grammars.

  • Naturally Occuring Nitrate and Nitrite in Nutrients: Determination in
           Anatolian Honey-bee Pollens by Capillary Electrophoresis

      Abstract: The aim of this work is the simultaneous determination of nitrate and nitrite in a set of bee-pollens of Anatolia using a capillary electrophoretic technique. Separation and determination conditions were 30 mM formic acid/formate buffer at pH 4.0. In earlier steps with pollen samples, only nitrate anion was detected. Consequently, a sample stacking method was applied to increase the detection sensitivity of both anions for the pollen samples. In a stacking operation, the conductivity of separation buffer should be higher than the sample zone. The conductivity of the separation buffer was increased by the addition of 30 mM sodium sulfate. Injection condition was 160 s at 50 mbar. The calibration curves show linear dynamic ranges from 1.5 to 30 μmol/L and 1.5 to 10 μmol/L with correlation coefficients of 0.989 and 0.999 for nitrate and nitrite ions, respectively. All the pollen samples contained appreciable amounts of nitrate (from 2.880 ± 0.055 to 18.72 ± 0.457 mg/kg). Low levels of nitrite were found in all samples (from 0.048 ± 0.008 to 0.301 ± 0.001 mg/kg).

  • Determination of Risk Conditions of Risky Structures By Observatory
           Analysis

      Abstract: Turkey in terms of location, is located in an active earthquake zone. The safety of buildings against earthquakes is important. Risky structures need to be identified and made resistant to earthquakes.There are also rapid screening methods for rapid use of post-earthquake structures and analysis of risk situations. Heavy damage assessment is made after the earthquake in Turkey. The original methods used in these studies were used. Bending and shearing damages are prominent in the detection work. It is aimed to make observational analysis on a structure by making use of the fast scanning methods and the methods used in heavy damage assessment studies after the earthquake. The structure examined within the scope of this analysis is located in Kadıköy District of Istanbul and was built in 1991. To determine the risk situation of the building, an observational analysis was made and it was concluded that it was risky. It has been understood that post-earthquake damage assessment studies can be used to detect risky structures, so that fast and economical determinations can be made. It is recommended to make fast revision methods for the determination of risky structures and to make revisions and additions in accordance with the methods used in post-earthquake damage assessment studies.

  • Evaluation of Urban Transformation Plans and Measures Taken For Possible
           Earthquake in Istanbul

      Abstract: The North Anatolian Fault (NAF) is seismically one of the fastest moving and most active faults in the world. Considering the major earthquakes that started with the earthquake in Erzincan in 1939 and continued until 1967, it was seen that the earthquakes on the NAF systematically migrated from east to west throughout the fault. The east side of the NAF which is considered as one of the most active faults not only in Turkey but also in the World was broken with severe earthquakes and discharged itself. Nevertheless, an enormous amount of energy that will possibly create a huge earthquake has been accumulated on the west side. After the earthquake in 1999, the State and non-governmental organizations have taken a series of measures to reduce the impact of the disaster on the citizens. These are important issues such as the areas where citizens will be collected after the earthquake and natural disaster containers that should be placed in every district for emergency response. The adoption of such measures in the earthquake zone countries like Turkey is the fairly right and proper decision. However, nearly all of the places designated as the meeting areas have been destroyed by building residences, housing estates, shopping malls and skyscrapers for the sake of obtaining personal gain in recent years. The existing meeting areas are not safe and appropriate for the collection of citizens after a potential disaster as there are tall buildings around these places. The aim of this study is to evaluate the important issues about the fault line whose rest in the Sea of Marmara is explained as a whole part, which is likely to create a big earthquake with a sudden rupture and which can cause huge loss of life and property. In addition to this, related urban transformation studies and the areas where citizens will gather after a possible earthquake will be discussed.

  • Modeling and Simulation to Investigate the Thermal Efficiency of a
           Parabolic Solar Trough Collector with Absorber Tube Inserted Twisted Tape
           System

      Abstract: Concentrated solar power is one of the renewable energy sources in the world that can be utilized from solar energy by combiningand concentrating it. In this numerical study, computer software was used to investigate the parabolic trough collector consistsof a mirror and tube made of copper covered with a vacuum glass. The twisted tape made of aluminum is placed inside the tubeto generate swirl flow and turbulence around the axial centerline of the absorber tube with the working fluid. Water was used asa working fluid with turbulent flow, the Reynolds number varied for the range of 2000 to 9000. To describe the present study,continuity, momentum, and energy equations were used. The angle of inclination of the twisted tape has been taken into accountin six different values: 25 °, 33 °, 45 °, 50 °, 55 °, and 60 °. A study occurred in the city of Istanbul in Turkey with 41° latitude and28.97° longitude for a periodic time from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, for four different selected months, September, October, November,and December. Results illustrated increasing in outlet temperature and heat transfer enhancement for six twisted tape anglescompared with the plain tube. The best angle of inclination of the twisted tape was found to be 50 degrees.

  • Experimental Investigation of Drawbead Effect on Springback in Profile of
           Double Circular, Rectangular and Triangular Bending Sheet Metal Forming
           Processes

      Abstract: Springback is considered as one of the most common problems in metal forming processes, which poses an inaccuracy of product angle during assembling of parts. The estimation of the springback is difficult to predict for formed parts since it depends on many factors such as the mechanical properties, the sheet thickness, and the die angle. In this work, an experimental investigation of drawbead for different material thicknesses and the use of different lubricants such as grease, oil and wax have been studied and analyzed. Samples of aluminum specimens with 120 mm length, 30 mm width and thickness of 0.5, 0.7 and 0.8 mm were selected in this study. Design and manufacturing of double bending die with profile of Circular, Rectangular, and Triangular have been applied firstly without drawbead and then with drawbead. The results showed that in a given profile configuration, the springback reduced with existing the drawbead

      Abstract: The story that is in cinema are onset of the filmmaking process. Character is one of the most significant elements that supports the transmission of the story to the audience. The harmony or conflict of the characters with themselves and with each other affects the whole story. Therefore, it can be say that "character is the mainstay of story." Character creation can be animated by the screenwriter with the past/experiences, future, goals, dreams, expectations, relationships, problems, conflicts, that is, reasons for existence. It is the process of creating an impressive, featured personality. The fact that the character is original, believable, strong and consistent is important in terms of fluency of the story and its ability to include the audience. Animated cinema which is successfully included in cinema genres, started to give its first examples at the beginning of the twentieth century and developed with technology. Technological and social developments have influenced the animation artists' own styles too . Japan is one of the most active countries in animation cinema. Hayao Miyazaki is one of the most influential artists who created his style and character creation in Japanese animation. In this article, Hayao Miyazaki's movie "Princess Mononoke" (anime), which criticizes people's exploitative behavior to nature, will be analyzed according to the three-dimensional character chart of Foss (2016: 138-139) and Miller (2016: 111-114).

  • Performance Comparison of RSA and RC4 Algorithms

      Abstract: Today, one of the most important fields of study of information technology systems is security. The rapid development of communication technologies has brought information security problems. It is important to send data securely in the communication between systems or any connection between two points. In order to achieve this, data must be encrypted using an appropriate encryption technique and this is the subject of the science called cryptology. Various keying, encryption and decryption algorithms have been developed using the science of cryptology in order to transmit and retrieve data in a reliable manner. In this study, the performances of the RSA algorithm, which is a widely used asymmetric encryption method, and the RC4 algorithm, which is a symmetric encryption method, are compared. As a result, it has been shown that encrypted information is decrypted faster than RSA algorithm by using RC4 algorithm.

      Abstract: The aim of this paper is to classify the vehicles and estimate the position with license plate localization using deep convolutional Neural Network (DCNN). Vehicle pose estimation with license plate localization serves as one of the most widely-used real-world applications in fields like toll control, traffic scene analysis, and suspected vehicle tracking. We proposed a one-stage anchor-free vehicle classifier for simultaneously localizing the region of license plates and vehicles’ poses. The classifier, rather than bounding rectangles, gives bounding quadrilaterals, which gives a more precise indication for vehicle pose estimation with license plates localization. For single scale input, we reached mean Precision Accuracy mAP/mAP50 of 35.4/82.3 on the LISA benchmark dataset, already outperformed the existing commercial systems OpenALPR and Sighthound. For multi-scale input, we reached the best mAP/mAP50 of 40.8/90.1. For the vehicle pose (front-rear), classification accuracy reached 98.8%, average IoU reached 71.3%, giving a promising result as an end-to-end vehicle position estimation and license plate localization with contextual information. The work has performed in python programming language with several libraries of deep learning were being used for this purpose. Our DCNN model training started from an initial weight which we had already trained for about 110000 iterations in the model without classification head, so the total training iterations will be around 780000 including the transfer learning part in DCNN. Transfer learning made the DCNN model start at a smart point and made it easier to optimize all of the functional heads simultaneously.
