  • A TUTORIAL ON BANG-BANG ALGORITHM FOR ATTITUDE CONTROL SYSTEM

      Abstract: The physical environment of aspace vehicle shows that bang-bang method for attitude control system of aspace vehicle is a viable and natural choice. This tutorial describes the algorithmand the specific aspects of its implementation. It derives the equations andthe switching surface used by the method. The immediate benefits of this designis short response time which results in larger fuel margin, less fuelconsumption and less weight.

  • CLASSIFICATION OF HELICAL GEAR FAULT LEVELS USING FREQUENCY COMPONENT
           BASED STATISTICAL ANALYSIS WITH ANN

      Abstract: Gearboxesthat are frequently used as power transmission elements are experienced variousfaults over time. The pitting fault, which is one of these faults, is usuallycaused by insufficient lubrication and overloading. Detecting pitting fault andidentifying different pitting levels are challenging subjects in gear faultdetection. This study aims to propose a method to classify the different levelsof pitting fault in helical gearbox. It is known that gear defects illustratethemselves in vibration signal at gear mesh frequency (GMF) and its harmonics. Asthe severity of faults on the tooth surface grows, the amplitude of thesefrequencies usually increases in the frequency spectrum. Frequency componentbased statistical analysis (FCSA) method is utilized to obtain strongerindicators for fault classification. In this study, frequency component basedstatistical analysis calculates the mean, standard deviation, RMS and Kurtosisvalues of narrowband gear vibrations obtained around the GMF and its harmonicsin order to detect these increases in the frequency spectrum. Moreover, thesestatistical parameters are then used as an input for training and testing ofartificial neural network (ANN) for classification of pitting faults.Furthermore, the pitting fault is detected and different pitting levels are classified.It has been found that the proposed approach is quite beneficial for not onlydetection, but also classification of pitting fault levels in helicalgearboxes.

  • DETERMINATION OF MIXING AND COMPACTION TEMPERATURES REGARDING TO BITUMENS
           INVOLVING PROCESS OIL

      Abstract: Inrecent years, researchers and engineers investigate the effective andenvironmentally friendly additives for bitumen modification, thereby improvingthe performance characteristics of bitumen. Many additives are usually used inbituminous mixtures to reduce energy requirement by decreasing mixing andcompaction temperatures of bitumen. Most bitumen shows non-Newtonian behaviorat application temperatures ranges. Workability of bitumen samples depends onthe proper selection of mixing and compacting temperatures. This paper is aimedto presents a laboratory evaluation of bitumen samples containing differentcontents of process oil. In the light of the study, base bitumen samples havebeen prepared with three different percentages (1%, 2% and 3%) of process oil.The prepared bitumen samples containing process oil have been subjected toBrookfield viscosity test. Mixing and compaction temperatures of bitumensamples have been determined by Brookfield viscosity test.

  • ANALYTICAL ALGORITHM FOR COMPUTING GAIN AND PHASE MARGINS FOR DISCRETE
           TIME SYSTEM

      Abstract: This note describes an algorithmfor computing the gain and phase margins for single input single outputdiscrete time systems. It converts the complex computations into realcomputations. It results into Chebyshev polynomials from which we compute thedesired margins. The algorithm is simple, easy to implement and devoid ofcomplex computations.

  • EFFECTS OF FILLING RATIO, ORIENTATION AND PRINT TEMPERATURE ON BENDING
           PROPERTIES OF 3D PRINTED PLA BEAMS

      Abstract: In this study, flexural properties of 3D printedPLA beam specimens produced with different filling ratios, orientations andprint temperatures are experimentally investigated. Various bending specimenswere produced by means of 3D printer using PLA filament as raw material. Low,intermediate and high filling ratios, lengthwise/widthwise and crosswisefilling orientations, and different print temperatures were chosen asalternative production parameters of the printer. Manufactured beam specimenswere subjected to three-point bending tests at room temperature in accordancewith the TS EN ISO 178 standard. Effects of production parameters on mechanicalbending properties including flexural modulus, maximum flexural stress,flexural strain at break, maximum force, and maximum deflection are clearlyshown and discussed to state reasonable explanations of test results and tomake conclusive suggestions.
