  • Analysis of Ultrasonic Horn with Finite Element Method

      Abstract: In this study, the mode shapes and natural frequencies of the horns with different geometries are to reveal an important aspect of the design by using FEM based ANSYS software. Modal analysis of flat horn, conical horn, Bezier type horn and sonotrode type horn profile for four different horn materials was performed using finite element based ANSYS software. Plain carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and titanium were selected as horn material in the analysis. It has been observed that different frequencies are observed in different mode shapes and our desired frequencies are the mode in which we have a resonance longitudinal vibration mode. For industrial application, it can find suitable material selection for ultrasonic machine in a certain frequency range. When the obtained results are examined, one can select the appropriate material, suitable size and suitable shape for a particular industrial ultrasonic machine application.

  • Use of Hydroponic Barley as a Green Feed Source and Its Effects on Red
           Partridges (Alectoris Chukar)

      Abstract: Red Partridges (Alectoris Chukar) grown under intensive conditions were produced with hydroponic barley as an alternative method to facilitate their adaptation to nature and to meet the need for green fodder. Thus, it is ensured that the animals benefit from green feed sources even in the cage environment. In this study, hydroponic barley product was produced for breeder red partridges; egg production, egg weight, hatchability and some behavior patterns were investigated. While the hatchability of the eggs obtained from the produced partridges with red partridge was 76.93% on average, the hatchability of the uncultivated partridges was 72.72%. While the egg weight of the eggs taken from the red partridges produced was 23.81 gr, the egg weight of the control group was 18.58 gr. While the product group had the highest values in terms of egg number, hatchability and egg weight, the non-administered group had the lowest values. In addition, according to the results of two independent sample t-test egg numbers in terms of hatchability and egg weight, the difference between these characteristics of the group that was applied and the group that was not applied was found to be statistically significant (P < 0.01).

  • Determination of Biodiesel Production Volume of Sunflower as the Major
           Oilseed Crop in Turkey

      Abstract: Our agricultural system is struggling to respond to increasing demands for food and renewable energy. We need to prioritize our production of local biofuel feedstocks by going through energy diversification, whose raw material is based on agriculture. The need for biofuels, which are among the renewable energy sources in our country, is increasing day by day, especially in terms of energy security and sustainability. Sunflower, cotton, safflower, and rapeseed are among the vegetable oil feedstock sources of biodiesel production, an important place among biofuels in our country. The most abundant source of oil raw material belongs to sunflower. Is this year 2019 sowing season in our country, 2 100 000 tons of sunflower were harvested with a yield of 27 937 kg per hectare during the planting works carried out on 751 693 hectares of land. This study aimed to determine the potential biodiesel volume of the sunflower plant according to the data of 2019. As a result of the calculations, this oilseed plant's potential biodiesel production volume in our country has been determined as 582 643 166 liters. For the biodiesel sector to produce uninterruptedly, the production studies of second-generation biodiesel raw materials, which are not used in the food sector, are compatible with the conditions of our country, especially in low water demand, and can be grown quickly in marginal areas.

  • Prediction of Renewable Energy Consumption of European Union Using
           Artificial Neural Networks

      Abstract: The increasing demand for renewable energy sources attract attention of both researchers and governments. The countries support renewable energy and technologies developed for the efficient use of renewable energy. For this reason, the assessment and prediction of renewable energy consumption is vital for governments. Furthermore, associations put forward long-term and short-term targets for countries. Therefore, European Union (EU) members provide support schemes for promoting renewable energy consumption. In this study, renewable energy consumption in EU is predicted using artificial neural networks. The World Development indicators which are renewable electricity output, energy use generated from combustible renewables and waste, electricity production from oil, gas and coal sources, energy use generated from alternative and nuclear energy, electricity production from renewable sources excluding hydroelectric, energy imports, energy use, gross domestic product (GDP) and population are evaluated as independent variables using historical data from 1990 to 2015. The results indicate that artificial neural networks provides convenient results in energy demand forecasting as seen in similar studies of the literature.

  • Use of Flavonoids and Saponins in Ruminant Animal Nutrition

      Abstract: In the present study, it is aimed to consider the advantages and disadvantages of plants containing flavonoids and saponins and the effects that may arise from the use of these ingredients in feed raw materials and to regulate their rations accordingly. For this purpose, the proportions found in different feed ingredients will be shown in a table and their effects on animals will be revealed. In terms of animal nutrition, the problems that may arise in case of excessive use of plants containing flavonoid and saponin vary depending on the species, physiological condition of the animal, the structure and amount of the grain. Treatment with synthetic and natural antioxidants is applied as a standard process so that flavonoids can be stored for a long time without spoiling. Both the nutritional protection properties of these compounds and their ability to act as antioxidants after entering metabolism and protect the cell against oxidizing agents are known. The most important functions of saponins are; by acting on the hypothalamus, it can be counted as appetite enhancing, ammonia binding, inhibiting urease activity, lowering surface tension in intestinal epithelial cells, anti-protozoal, antibacterial, anti-fungal and antioxidant properties. In many plants such as legumes, alfalfa, spinach, and beets, saponins from 0.5 g / kg to 87 g / kg of DM can be found and from 5% to 18%. Although there is a difference in the literature on the usage rates, it is suggested that 1500 ppm Yucca Schidigera (YS) and 30 g / day tea saponin can be used in ruminant diets.

  • Assessment of the Global Environmental Impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic

      Abstract: During the COVID-19 pandemic period, measures taken to control the spread of the virus worldwide; caused a decrease in social, economic and commercial activities. This situation inevitably affected the environmental components directly or indirectly. With the implementation of COVID-19 restrictions, it has been observed that air quality has improved significantly, greenhouse gas emissions have decreased, water pollution and noise levels have slowdown, surface and ground water quality has enhanced and traffic density has reduced in different cities of the world. However, despite these positive effects on the environment, the new corona virus epidemic also caused negative effects such as low indoor air quality, increased use of disposable plastics and medical waste such as masks and gloves, and decreased amount of recycling waste. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the positive and negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on environment by reviewing the scientific literatures.

  • Compliance Assessment of the Request for Change of Allocation Purpose in
           Rangelands: The Case of Kayı Village Rangeland, Çorum, Turkey

      Abstract: A change in the allocation purpose of the rangeland parcels of the Kayı village of Çorum province has been requested for the works to be carried out with the aim of afforestation and erosion control. With this study, it has been investigated whether the process is in compliance with the rangeland law legislation numbered 4342 by determining the "rangeland condition" class of the rangeland parcels. The study was carried out in the last week of May 2021 and the modified wheel loop method was used in the vegetation study. 31 different plant species were identified in the 109/57 plot of the rangeland and 27 species were identified in the 127/36 plot. According to the vegetation study, the rangeland condition of the parcel no. 127/36 was in the “Fair” category with 30.23%, while the parcel no. 109/57 was in the “Poor” class with 20.97%. The slope grades of the rangeland parcels no. 127/36 and 109/57 varied between 5-20% and 3-7%, respectively. According to these data, it is possible to change the purpose of allocation in both rangeland parcels according to the rangeland law. On the other hand, it was determined that the improvement of the vegetation in both parcels was possible and the erosion risk was low. Accordingly, it was concluded that the request for a change in the allocation purpose would not be appropriate considering the rangeland needs of the animals of the village.

  • Investigation of Growth in Turkeys Using a Multiphasic Model

      Abstract: Growth and yield of modeling of poultry and eggs are commonly used by single-phase nonlinear regression equations. There are a limited number of studies modeled by multiphasic functions of the mentioned features. In this study, we put emphasis on multiphasic logistic growth model on the purpose of modelling growth of poultry and it was aimed to introduce that model. With this purpose, a breeding herd of turkeys’, both male and female, 60 week body weight growth was modeled using the multiphasic logistic growth function. The model fit was found relatively high, determining coefficients were obtained as 0.999 and 0.998 for female and male turkeys, respectively. The ‘a’ parameter represents half the weight of the asymptotic model, k parameter is the average growth rate, and c parameter represents the week where the highest growth rate takes place. The model parameters for female ɑ1, k1, c1, ɑ2, k1 and c2 were estimated to be respectively, 2475.9, 0.367, 11.64, 4035.4, 0.969 and 36.53. Parameters of male turkeys’ ɑ1, k1, c1, ɑ2, k1 and c2 were estimated to be, respectively, 3336.6, 0.399, 13.99, 5598.9, 0.467, and 31.26. As a result, fitting the two stage multiphasic model was found as very successfully for both female and male turkeys growth data according to the one stage model.
