  • Investigation of The Effects of Heat Treatment On Varnished Wood Material

      Abstract: In this study, the effects of the heat treatment applied varnished wood materials on hardness, brightness and varnishes’ surface sticking resistance were investigated. For this purpose, firstly Pinus Sylvestris L., Fagus Orientalis L. and Castanea Sativa M. wooden samples were varnished by the water based varnish and after that they were kept in temperatures of 100 ˚C, 125 ˚C and 150 ˚C for times of 2, 4 and 6 hours. According to test results it was determined that while the hardness and varnishes’ surface sticking resistance were improved for all samples which were processed 2 hours in temperatures of 100 ˚C, the brightness, surface sticking resistance and brightness of the samples which were processed 4 and 6 hours in 100 ˚C and 2, 4 and 6 hours in 125 ˚C and 150 ˚C were deteriorated. Furthermore, it was observed that the hardness resistance of all samples which processed for 2, 4 and 6 hours in 100 ˚C, 125 ˚C and 150 ˚C were high. In all varnished wood species, the dual-component varnish gave better results than the single-component varnish.

  • Effects of Heat Treatment Applied to Brutian Pine (Pinus brutia Ten.)
           Particles on the Formaldehyde Emission and Burning Properties of Produced
           Boards

      Abstract: In this study, particles obtained from brutian pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) wood were heat-treated at 120, 160 and 180 oC and boards were produced from the particles. Formaldehyde emission values of boards produced from control and heat-treated particles of brutian pine were determined by perforator method. The burning properties of the boards were examined using a single source flame test. The continuous increase in the heat-treatment temperature led to the continuous increase in formaldehyde emission values obtained from the boards. A continuous decrease was observed in the burning trace values of the boards with the continuous increase in the heat-treatment temperature. The results showed that if the boards produced from heat-treated particles are evaluated in the products to be used in indoor environments, the negative impact on the ambient air quality and human health in terms of formaldehyde emission will increase. However, it has been observed that the boards produced from heat-treated particles may be used in partially fire-resistant exterior structures.

  • Landslide Susceptibility Assessment of the Adıyaman City Using
           Logistic Regression Method

      Abstract: Bu çalışmada; Adıyaman il geneli (7.298,96 km2) için mantıksal regresyon yöntemi kullanılarak heyelan duyarlılık çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. İl sınırı içerisinde yaklaşık 600 heyelan bulunmakta olup; Adıyaman il yüzölçümünün % 6’sını kapsamaktadır. Adıyaman ili heyelan envanter haritası, Türkiye tarihsel heyelan envanteri temel alınarak, ortofotolar, uzaktan algılama görüntüleri ve arazi araştırmaları ile hazırlanmıştır. Lojistik regresyon yöntemi, bağımlı değişkenin ikili gözlendiği durumlarda, bir veya daha fazla bağımsız değişken bulunan veri kümesini analiz etmek için kullanılan popüler istatistiksel bir yöntemlerden biridir. Heyelanları hazırlayıcı çevresel değişkenler Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri ortamında hazırlanmış olup; başta jeoloji haritası olmak üzere sayısal yükseklik modeli, yamaç eğimi, yamaç eğrisellikleri, pürüzlülük indeksi gibi tematik haritalar kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak elde edilen heyelan duyarlılık haritasına göre; il sınırının % 28.57’si heyelanların ise % 75.13’ü yüksek ve çok yüksek duyarlı alanlarda yer almaktadır. Elde edilen haritanın doğruluğu Alıcı işletim karakteristik eğrisi ve eğri altında kalan alan (AUC) ile değerlendirilmiş olup AUC 0.820 olarak hesaplanmıştır.

  • Investigation of Effects of Heat Treatment on Bendings Strength of Some
           Broadleaf Trees Species by Using Taguchi Method

      Abstract: The Taguchi method is an experiment design method that tries to minimize the variability that may occur in the product and process by reducing the number of experiments to be performed to reach the target value, and aims to provide time and cost savings in applications. In this study, heat treatment was applied to beech (Fagus orientalis L.), oak (Quercus robur L.), ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) species, which are spread in our country, at 160, 180 and 200 °C for 2, 4 and 6 hours. The effects of temperature and time differences on the bending strength of wood material in heat treatment were investigated using Taguchi method by performing bending resistance tests of the samples after heat treatment. In the application of the Taguchi method, factors and levels suitable for the purpose were determined and the L9 (33) orthogonal array was chosen as the experiment plan. The results of the experiments were analyzed using the analysis of variance and Taguchi methods with a spreadsheet applied according to the S/N ratio. According to the results, after the statistical analysis, it was estimated that the best value obtained was oak wood in 160 °C for 2 h of heat treatment. The validation experiment result showed that it was consistent with the analysis result.

  • Classification of Some Species of Shrikes Family by Convolutional Neural
           Networks

      Abstract: Birds are an integral part of nature and are extremely important to nature. Bird species classification is gaining more and more attention in the field of computer image processing due to its promising applications in biology and environmental research. Classification of bird species requires a challenging process as it is done by traditional methods in nature. In this study; Three species belonging to the genus Lanius from the Shrikes-family were classified using Convolutional Neural Networks and Resnet architecture. As a result; An accuracy of 96.52% was achieved with the tests performed for the classification. It has been observed that this method is successful in recognizing and classifying species belonging to the same genus that are difficult to distinguish.

  • Geometrical Design Parameters That Affect On Acoustic Performance And
           Examination Of Different Plan Shapes

      Abstract: Speech halls are the structures that emerged for reasons such as performing a performance, gathering and sharing. From the first days they were used, new wrinkles added in terms of architecture with the development of technology and the emergence / increase of different areas of expertise. Speech halls can be listed as follows, theaters, conference halls, offices, classrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, small and large classrooms, lecture halls, multi-purpose halls, etc. It is important that the actor/speaker can perform during the performance exhibited in the speech hall and the audience can watch/listen and understand the performance without any extra effort. In this context; it is essential to improving physical, visual and audial comfort conditions is necessary to ensure speech intelligibility and concentration. To ensure this comfort, halls with high acoustic performance should be designed by providing geometric parameters accepted in the literature. Within the scope of the study, among the geometric design parameters; line of sight, 140o rule, maximum hall length, aspect ratio, floor slope, ceiling panels and side wall beam analysis, seating area; seat, corridor, stage dimensions, shapes and sizes of building elements according to sound beam analysis; in order to provide optimum reverberation time, the finishing materials of the building elements have been examined to provide the mentioned comfort conditions. Accordingly, depending on the parameters mentioned; volume of halls (m3), number of seats, average height (h), volume per seat and area per seat (m3-m2), building elements, surface finishing materials, halls with different plan schemes that are similar to each other were designed and examined. While the halls are designed, the width, length, aspect ratio of the hall, the parallel surfaces in the hall, the contribution of the side walls, the form of the side walls and ceiling panels, the early reflections of geometric differences such as the seating area, delayed reflections, lateral reflections, total sound energy, which effects the acoustic performance and this performance affects audial comfort. For this reason, the role of geometric conditions should be considered in order to provide acoustic comfort and speech intelligibility.

  • Effects of Salicylic Acid on Triticale under Salt Stress

      Abstract: The goal of this study was to determine the effect of salicylic acid (50 µM) on triticale grown under salt stress. In this study, we investigated shoot and root lengths, malondialdehyde, proline, ion leakage, relative water content, chlorophyll content. The results indicated that salicylic acid is quite effective to deal with salt stress. Anatomically shoot and root lengths as well as relative water content and chlorophyll content were increased by salicylic acid under salt toxicity. Moreover malondialdehyde, proline and ion leakage were decreased by the application of salicylic acid. Overall our results indicated that salicylic acid can be used for agricultural production of triticale under salt stress.

  • Environmental Risk Assessment in Ready-Mixed Concrete Plants

      Abstract: The occurrence of various wastes indicates that many environmental risks may occur due to production activities in ready-mixed concrete plants. Analyzing and evaluating the environmental risks generated can produce solutions that minimize or eliminate the environmental impact of the ready-mixed concrete plants.The aim of this study is to predetermine the environmental risks that may occur in ready-mixed concrete plants and to minimize the potential negative effects. The study was carried out on two different ready-mixed concrete plants located in Denizli and Adana. In both facilities, environmental risk factors were monitored monthly for 6 months. The plant visits were made between 01.11.2017 and 01.06.2018. These visits were conducted at least once a month, and in some special cases 2 or 3 times a month for more detailed observation. As a result of these investigations, environmental risk assessment was performed by using L type matrix method in both facilities. In the evaluation of risk, the ready-mixed concrete plant in Denizli province was named as facility-1, (T1) and the ready-mixed concrete plant in Adana was named as facility-2, (T2).As a result of the risk assessments, environmental risks were lower in T1 where the environmental management system was implemented on the basis of ISO 14001. In addition to the existing measures implemented in T1, it has been determined that all environmental risks have decreased to a minimum level by applying the measures proposed as a result of environmental risk assessment. As a result of environmental risk assessment, it was observed that the unacceptable environmental risks of T2, are higher than T1, which is not implemented by the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

  • Bibliometric Analysis of Academic Studies in Turkey with Big Data Tools

      Abstract: Information is the source of technological developments from yesterday to today. To be able to manage knowledge, to use its organizational and managerial effectiveness has a critical importance in taking the lead in the competition in the market. The importance of knowledge management is to accelerate the learning curve, to make rapid improvements, to provide the right information to the right people at the right time and to enable accelerated transformations, to determine strategies and actions to be taken in the competitive environment of tomorrow with meaningful data.With fast-developing technology, data from academic papers has entered the field of big data. But there is not much research in which academic papers are examined using big data tools from a bibliometric analysis perspective. The main subject of this study is to examine the current status of academic articles written in Turkey from the perspective of bibliometric analysis. In bibliometric studies where statistical and mathematical methods are used, information about articles is obtained through the use of citation databases. Within the scope of this study, 585236 articles from the web of Science citation database, written between 1980 and 2019, addressed to Turkey, were filtered for the purposes and 220969 academic articles obtained as a result were analyzed.As a result of this analysis, the universities that publish the most on a field basis, the authors who publish the most on a field and University basis, the universities that have done and are likely to do the work together, the authors who have done the work together and are likely to do it were determined and presented.

  • Integrated Solid Waste Management; Inegöl Sample

      Abstract: Theincrease in the amount of solid wastes occurring together with economic andtechnological development causes various damages on water, soil and air. Tominimize these damages, societies must develop and implement the mostappropriate waste management systems according to their waste properties.In this study, thecurrent solid waste management system applications for İnegöl district of Bursawere evaluated and the most suitable solid waste management system proposalswere developed. In the study, the economic, geopolitical and socialcharacteristics and current solid waste characterization data of İnegöldistrict were evaluated by field studies. The existing solid waste managementproblems in the district have been introduced and the most appropriateintegrated solid waste management system proposal for the district, which is richin industrial enterprises, has been developed.Withthe integrated solid waste management system established in the province ofBursa İnegöl, it is foreseen that significant contributions will be made to theregion and the country's economy by reducing the environmental pollution causedby solid wastes and managing the wastes in the most appropriate way. In thiscontext, efficient recovering and evaluation of packaging wastes, establishmentof mechanical biological separation unit, evaluation of organic wastes with thehelp of compost and gasification units and extending the life of the existingstorage area were determined as the most suitable solid waste managementsolution for İnegöl. In addition, it is recommended that hazardous wastesoriginating from industrial zones in İnegöl should be established in accordancewith the relevant legislation and to prevent mixing with other solid wastes.
