  • POSSIBILITY OF MONITORING OF PAHs DISTRIBUTION IN THE VERTICAL PROFILE AT
THE BACKGROUND METEOROLOGICAL STATION KREŠÍN - RETRACTED

    • Authors: Gabriela Strnadová, Vlastimil Hanuš, David Kahoun, Petr Semerák, Jan Tříska
      Pages: 282 - 294
Abstract: ARTICLE HAS BEEN RETRACTED BY EDITORIAL OFFICE, UPON AN APPROVAL OF ALL AUTHORSThe contaminants present in the atmosphere have a substantial impact on public health. Among contaminants, the most important are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). This paper is focused on the possibility of continuous PAHs monitoring and the description of their vertical distribution using filters, which serve to purify the air before the determination of the greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, CO, ozone) and Hg in air, continuously sampled at 8, 50 and 230m at the atmospheric station Krešín near Pacov and elaboration of a simple and economical method of extraction of these filters. The station serves as a point for monitoring the occurrence and remote transport of greenhouse gases and selected atmospheric pollutants and for the measurements of basic meteorological characteristics. In December, 17, 2014, a sampling of 16 priority PAHs started and lasted until December, 9, 2015. Samples were taken approximately once a month. The maximum concentration of ΣPAHs was 15.905 ng/m3, measured at the height of 8 meters in the period of 11. 2. 2015–11. 3. 2015, the concentration of benzo[a]pyrene exceeded the immission limit in the period by more than 50%. By the sampling, the hypothesis about decreasing concentration of PAHs with increasing height was confirmed, especially the decrease of heavier PAHs. The sampling has shown that it is highly desirable to use the meteorological tower for sampling of PAHs using PTFE filters either by including the active sampler itself, or by using pre-filters for tropospheric ozone and gaseous elemental mercury analysers.

  • IMPROVEMENT OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN SPECTRUM SENSING COGNITIVE RADIO
NETWORKS USING AN EFFICIENT TWO STAGE SENSING METHOD

    • Authors: Hikmat Najem Abdullah, Hadeel Sami Abed
Abstract: Cognitive radio (CR) is a wireless technology developed to improve the usage in the spectrum frequency. Energy consumption is considered as a big problem in this technology, especially during a spectrum sensing. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the energy consumption during the spectrum sensing. The theoretical analysis to calculate the amount of energy consumption, using the proposed method during sensing stage as well as the transmission stage during transmitting a local decision to the fusion center FC, are derived. The proposed algorithm is using energy detection technique to detect the presence or absence of the primary user (PU). The proposed algorithm consists of two stages: the coarse sensing stage and fine sensing stage. In the coarse sensing stage, all the channels in the band are sensed shortly and the channel that have maximum (or minimum) energy is identified to make a dense fine sensing for confirming the presence of the PU signal (or hole). The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in two scenarios: non-cooperative, and cooperative in both the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves the energy consumption by about 40% at a low SNR values, when compared with the traditional methods based on a single sensing stage and more advanced method based on censoring and sequential censoring algorithms.

  • FICTITIOUS DOMAIN METHOD FOR NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF INCOMPRESSIBLE
           VISCOUS FLOW AROUND RIGID BODIES

    • Authors: Matej Beno, Bořek Patzák
Abstract: This article describes the method of efficient simulation of the flow around potentially many rigid obstacles. The finite element implementation is based on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using structured, regular, two dimensional triangular mesh. The fictitious domain method is introduced to account for the presence of rigid particles, representing obstacles to the flow. To enforce rigid body constraints in parts corresponding to rigid obstacles, Lagrange multipliers are used. For time discretization, an operator splitting technique is used. The model is validated using 2D channel flow simulations with circular obstacles. Different possibilities of enforcing rigid body constraints are compared to the fully resolved simulations and optimal strategy is recommended.

  • TRANSITION METAL OXIDES AS MATERIALS FOR ADDITIVE LASER MARKING ON
           STAINLESS STEEL

    • Authors: Mihail Stoyanov Mihalev
Abstract: The product information plays an important role in the improvement of the manufacturing, allowing the tracking of the part through the full life cycle. Laser marking is one of the most versatile techniques for this purpose. In this paper, a modification of the powder bed selective laser melting for additive laser marking of stainless steel parts is presented. This modification is based on the use of only one transition metal oxide chemically bonded to the stainless steel substrate, without using any additional materials and cleaning substances. The resulting additive coatings, produced from initial MoO3 and WO3 powders, show strong adhesion, high hardness, long durability and a high optical contrast. For estimation of the chemical and structural properties, the Raman and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy have been implemented. A computer model of the process of the laser melting and re-solidification has been developed as well. A comparative analysis of the properties of both (MoO3 and WO3) additive coatings has been performed. An attempt for a qualitative explanation of the thermo-chemical phenomena during the marking process has been undertaken.

  • DESIGN OF PARTICULATE MATERIAL COMPACTOR ROLLS DIAMETER

    • Authors: Peter Peciar, Oliver Macho, Maroš Eckert, Roman Fekete, Peter Kotora, Martin Juriga, Juraj Kabát, Ľudmila Gabrišová, Marián Peciar
Abstract: At present, in a period of an industrial expansion great emphasis is placed on the environment. That means aiming for a reduced energy consumption, and also lessening dustiness from very fine powder material. This category also includes particulate material agglomeration processes. Because this process is very energy-intensive, it is necessary to correctly design these devices. The aim of this paper is to focus on a theoretical design of a production compactor with the rolls diameter for an experimental particulate material, based on Johanson’s theory and experimentally measured material properties. The material used for experimental measurements was an NPK-based industrial fertilizer consisting of several components. The results of this paper is the dependence of the ratio of the maximum compression pressure to the initial compression pressure from the rolls diameter of the proposed compactor.

  • AERODYNAMIC LOAD OF AN AIRCRAFT WITH A HIGHLY ELASTIC WING

    • Authors: Pavel Schoř
Abstract: In this article, a method for calculation of air loads of an aircraft with an elastic wing is presented. The method can predict a redistribution of air loads when the elastic wing deforms. Unlike the traditional Euler or Navier-Stokes CFD to FEM coupling, the method uses 3D panel method as a source of aerodynamic data. This makes the calculation feasible on a typical recent workstation. Due to a short computational time and low hardware demands this method is suitable for both the preliminary design stage and the load evaluation stage. A case study is presented. The study compares a glider wing performing a pull maneuver at both rigid and and elastic state. The study indicates a significant redistribution of air load at the elastic case.

  • CHARACTERIZATION OF SELECTED PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITES OF WASTE PAPER WITH
UNTREATED BAMBOO STEM FIBRE AND RICE HUSK

    • Authors: Taofeek Ayotunde Yusuf
Abstract: Composite technology is an excellent approach to utilizing natural fibres and agricultural wastes, which constitute an environmental nuisance. Efforts are being made to characterize the properties of composites produced from different sources of these wastes and fibres to facilitate a choice and selection for different applications. In this study, selected properties of composite samples, produced from waste paper in equal mix-ratio with rice husk and bamboo stem fibres (BSF) separately without chemical pre-treatment using cassava starch as a binder, were characterized. Composites from rice husk are better in terms of their higher compressive strength (71–202N/mm2), lower water absorption, at a rate of 1.97–5.19 and 1.09–3.02%/min, and a lower thickness swelling, at a rate of 0.74–1.23 and 0.52–0.70 %/min at 30 min and 1 h immersion time respectively, while that from the BSF is superior for its lower density 0.321–0.358 g/cm3 and specific weight 3.15–3.51 kN/m3. The material composition (percentage fibre volume fraction) appears to have no significant effect on the impact strength 26.0–26.4 kJ/m2 as well as other selected properties of the composites (p > 0.05). However, all the samples have properties that meet the requirement for composites except that the water absorption and thickness swelling are relatively high. The composites have considerably low density, which makes them suitable in light weight applications. Their compressive and impact strength make them appear specifically relevant for the production of construction blocks and industrial helmets respectively. Meanwhile, the properties are liable to modification with a chemical pre-treatment of the fibres.
